Hotel Palacio Del Retiro, Autograph Collection5.0 out of 5.0

We had stayed at 2 different AC Marriott Hotels while in Spain. Both had exceeded our expectations. This property however was definitely a step above the other two. A mix of classic architecture with contemporary features (I suspect it was once a luxury apartment building or home at one time). We arrived in the morning so a room was not yet available however, the front desk staff secured our luggage while we took a day trip to Toledo. Upon our return that afternoon, we discovered our luggage was already in the room and we had been upgraded to an amazing suite - very nice surprise! We enjoyed cocktails and tapas in the lounge which were excellent. The place was spotless and the Staff attention driven. As a bonus, we were directly across the street from Parque de El Retiro and in close proximity to the Puerta de Alcala, upscale shopping, numerous cafes and restaurants. Awesome property! I highly recommend it!
AC hotels are not od the similar level at all, and I always get confused. The Palacio del retiro , being an Autograph property, is a nice hotel. I like the cimbination of modest cintemporary finishing and old classes building. Executive Suit 311 is very spacious, with all windows overlooking Retiro Park, and jacuzzi . The location of the hotel is very central and convenient. Staff is fine. Continental breakfast is very limited, so it is advised to be attentive with what kind of breakfast your booking includes.
The only bad thing about our visit is that we only stayed one night. This exquisite hotel was once a large home in Madrid which was converted to a hotel. You get the feel of the old mansion with large, well decorated and appointed rooms. The hotel was spotless, service was fantastic and the hotel is located very close to the high end shopping area and restaurants. There is free parking in the street if you are fortunate enough to find a spot. Tip: If you want to eat at one of the many great restaurants on Calle Jorge Juan make sure you have a reservation, especially on the weekend. It's a popular spot.
We stayed at the AC Palacio del Retiro from June 30th to July 5th 2017 on vacation and our experience was superb. The building is an old "palacete" located across the street from Parque del Retiro. The building maintains its old school charm while it has all the modern convenience. But what made the biggest difference for us was its helpful, attentive and hospitable staff. With all the requests we had, they were always willing to try their best to fulfill them and in the few occasions when it was not possible, they tried plan B and C before giving up. They helped us with reservations and directions always with a smile and exemplary politeness. Even when I clumsily spilled my coffee cup while sitting at the table during breakfast, the smile stayed in place and while they quickly cleaned up my mess all the while trying to make me feel at ease. Superb!!! highly recommended. The one small complaint I would have is that there are not enough electrical plugs in the room ... peccatta minuta compared to the care and service we received.
We traveled to Madrid in April and it was purely by chance that we picked this hotel to stay in, and what a pick it was! From the minute we checked in it was the highest standards of customer service. As we arrived early we through we may not have been able to check in however the reception staff did all they could to facilitate us and we were able to check in straight away. The hotel even upgraded our room. The room that we got was beyond amazing - I never wanted to leave. We had 3 balconies - 3! The bathroom was exceptional All in all, there's nothing bad I could say about this hotel, facilities, staff, everything was superb.
The hotel has antique character and large rooms. The staff is very nice and customer service oriented. However, the hotel is not in a good location for shopping, eating, or playing. Other than the park being across the street, the hotel is not in a prime location. The value for the money is not there.
The room was well appointed with a nice interior view from the window. The room size was enormous for a European hotel. The bathroom had a full enclosed shower and a full tub. The building is full of old world charm This was the best room for our entire three week vacation. There was a Live Spanish Guitar event one evening in the bar/restaurant that was entertaining and fun. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The location of the hotel was not far from the Prado and across the street from the Retiro park.
Stayed there for 4 nights with my family of three. The location of the hotel can't be beat. It is a street across from the Retiro park, allowing us to enjoy a pleasant walk each morning/evening. My wife works in hospitality industry and she was impressed with interior and how it feels. Very high ceiling and well appointed furnitures/deco. We stayed at junior suite, so there was plenty of space in our room. I've read some negative reviews and frankly, we didn't face any of it. There is no concierge desk but front desk staffs were very kind and responded quite efficiently to our requests for recommendation and reservations. Just ask, they will find you nice restaurants and will make a reservation for you. One that they reserved for us at our last night in Madrid was located in very quite neighborhood, outside of usual tourist sites, still within 10-15 walk from hotel. We really enjoyed the dining there. I am sure other 5-star hotels offer comparable services but the experience at this hotel was beyond my expectation and mostly because of its excellent staffs, not just front desk but also at dining area. Highly recommend!
Great location across from the park and close to the Prado Museum. Decent breakfast. The front desk staff is very helpful and accommodating. We arrived early and were able to get a room. Would stay again.
We booked this hotel because it was central to all the sites in Madrid and we had some Marriott point we could use to offset some of the cost. The location was perfect and the room was larger than I thought it would be. We could walk or take the metro to every site we wanted to see. Tons of great places to eat close by. We are Marriott rewards member so we have stayed at quite a few hotels over the years and this one was just ok. The staff was not as friendly as I would have preferred. The restaurant was pretty expensive as well.
