I noticed a few reviews stating that this isn't really a luxury hotel and I tend to agree. It may be better classified as boutique. No matter, the room was great and we were not there for any other features of the hotel so I can't comment on the restaurant , gym, etc. What I can say was the room was great, and quiet, both from inside the hotel and not much noise from Calle de Montalban. Even if we had a room on Calle de Alfonso XII (overlooking the park), I'm not sure if traffic noise is that bad in this part of town. We only interacted with the reception area staff but all of them were very professional, friendly, and let me waste their time by practicing my bad Spanish. We interacted with a few different staff members from different shifts and they were all excellent.
Regarding Hotel Palacio Retiro, the female server at breakfast is exceptional, and very responsive to your needs. The male person seating you is indifferent, almost dismissive, and not cordial. I am shocked that this brand does not accommodate Lifetime Platinum guests with complimentary eggs. That is a paid for extra service. The female turn-down staff was also very accommodating. Definitely, would think twice about staying here again. All the city centre Marriott hotels appear to be AC Hotels. The closest full-service Marriott was a convention center near the airport which would be ideal for travellers accustomed to a higher end service. Made us really nostalgic for the Berlin Marriott on Potsdamer Platz, for instance, with fabulous staff, food and service
My wife and I stayed here for five days in September on Marriott points. We had a great room, very quiet & spacious; the complimentary breakfast met our needs; and the location was within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to visit. Being right across from Retiro Park was an additional plus.
We stayed 4days in the hotel ; we booked because of the situation near the musea in Madrid. The reception is in the "porte cochère" which is the entrance of the carriges with no place to sit .The modern furniture does not fit with the building ; in our room tv was placed half on a mirrored door and half on the wall. There is no "salon"were you can relax. But people were very friendly and helpfull. Good hotel but not luxurious
Hotel is located directly across from a park that is great for a morning run or a walk / run anytime of the day. It is a little outside of most restaurants, but easily walkable. One day I walked 10 miles touring the city! I arrived early from my overnight US flight and they had my room ready by 10 am! The room (404) was very large and the bed was excellent. The breakfast offering was outstanding and they had the best orange juice I have ever had! The wifi in the hotel was very spotty. Overall I thought the service by the staff was excellent, the location pretty good.
We loved this hotel. We are five star, luxury/ultra luxury travelers and felt quit at home here. Second floor historic suite was lovely. Simply being across from The Retiro Park was lovely. We shall return.
The hotel building is stunning. The decor, while a little safe, is effective. The food on the other hand is unsubtle and, in my case heavily over salted. The staff were good, particularly the women in the bar, but really the whole place lacked atmosphere.
A smallish Marriott property well located near city parks, nice neighborhoods and local restaurants. Our room was nice but we had asked for "King Bed" 3+ months ahead of time and got two twins pushed together. Breakfast offering very limited and expensive to say the least ($40 pp) No access to coffee and simple hotel store needs within confines of this operation. Desk staff had limited knowledge of local food places, tour groups and "best bets". Surprising considering the higher standards of this hotel.
We looked at a lot of properties for our stay in Madrid. We generally prefer smaller, boutique hotels with some character away from the big chains. But having a king size bed is non-negotiable. We settled on this AC Autograph (managed by Marriott) property, however, because of (1) the bed, (2) it looked to be reasonably close to the action, and (3) we could use a combo of Marriott points and cash to get a larger room, and (4) the photos of the property looked amazing. It didn't disappoint. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and our room (as Marriott regulars in the US we were upgraded to a Luxury suite) was fabulous -- modern décor and amenities with high ceilings and the architecture that comes with being in a former palace. It didn't feel at all like you were in a large chain hotel. We loved the location. The Retiro Park across the street is beautiful. We walked it several times. You're a 20 minute or so walk from the Latin Quarter and some of the other desirable bar, restaurant and shopping areas which may bother some, but we like to wander and walk and search for little neighborhood shops and restaurants. We never once felt the need for a cab or Uber to get around the city. We never ate at the hotel so cannot comment on the restaurant. To a person, every interaction we had with a staff member was pleasant and they went out of their way to be helpful. If it's in your budget, you won't be disappointed!
My wife and I spent two nights here in early September on our way to Portugal, and found the hotel to be a perfect place to recover from jet lag in a great and walkable city. Located just across the street from Buen Retiro park, the hotel offers a superb location for even a short stay - close to restaurants, shopping and museums. Staff was helpful, and the breakfast was very good. They recognize and value frequent Marriott guests, which is nice and not always done as well.
