The Principal Madrid was a fabulous hotel. The staff was terrific from the doormen, to reception, to restaurant, and housekeeping. They were all welcoming, helpful, courteous and professional. The concierge always provided great restaurant recommendations according to our requirements. We arrived in the morning ahead of check out and while our room was not ready, we were able to pay a small fee to upgrade to a room with the large patio terrace that was worth every Euro. We enjoyed the patio every day after long hours of walking to see the sights. The breakfast was included and had so many choices. The rooftop terrace with bar is a gem and provides a 360 view of the city. We would highly recommend this hotel and plan on staying here again.
Really wonderful views of the most famous street in Madrid, great fun cocktails and gin and tonics, you have lots of nice small tables outside. A little haven away from it all, just take the lift to the top floor!
My wife and I recently stayed at the Principal Madrid for part of our 10th anniversary. I can honestly say that I have not been happier with a hotel choice. To start off it is in a great location on the Gran Via in Madrid which is in the middle of everything. The hotel staff are super nice and helpful. The hotel smells nice and everything is very clean. Our room was great. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was very nice. The AC worked well! We loved it. If anyone I know is going to Madrid I would definitely recommend this hotel. It's top notch in my book.
We chose to stay in the Principal Madrid for 5 nights and had absolutely no regrets. The location was great, as all the museums and the Retiro Park were within walking distance and a less than 15 minute walk would take you to Plaza Mayor. We had a junior suite overlooking the busy street but the soundproofing was amazingly effective as street traffic sounds were minimal and it was nice to watch the world go by once in a while. If at all, a minor gripe is that we would have preferred a proper armchair to sit in rather than the spanish leather chair in the room. Although we stayed for so many nights, my husband and I looked forward to the breakfasts here as the quality was very good and there were changes in an item or two daily, which give variety to the breakfast spread each day. The staff here had great attitude, were extremely helpful and the recommendations we obtained from the concierge particularly with regard to places to eat, were great. The girls in the breakfast room were extremely pleasant and helpful and took time to explain the items on offer whenever we asked. It's a boutique hotel, well worth considering especially if you are tired of the large hotels with the crowds at the buffet breakfast and thronging the reception areas. Highly recommended.
We have travelled to many places and stayed in multiple hotels on our journeys, but this one was amazing. Upon arrival after a long train trip we were greeted by a beautiful entrance, a glass of sparkling water with ice and friendly check in staff. They were incredibly polite, spoke English well and made our first impression a good one. Our room was large and extremely comfortable. Everything worked! Bed was great and rooms were quiet. We had breakfast included and at our first visit we were greeted by a lovely lady who walked us through the breakfast room pointing out clearly where we could find everything. The waiting staff were also charming and hospitable. This hotel also has a rooftop garden that guests can use to have a drink or some food as well as have 360 degree views of Milan. The hotel was central to all of the tourist sights. The red bus was literally a 5 minute walk from the front door. We would have no hesitation in coming back to the Principal, in fact this is one of the reasons we enjoyed Madrid so much.
The Principal is a wonderful 5 star hotel right in the center of Madrid and which deserves every one of those stars. The location is perfect, the staff was excellent and attentive, and our rooms (we had 2) were modern and well designed. We didn’t have any view from our rooms, but the open terrace (and bar) on the 7 floor, with its incredible views, more than made up for that. The restaurant on the 6th floor was also superb. The floor arrangement is a little odd, as the entrance is on street level (with a full time staff person on duty), and the lobby and reception are on the 6th floor. The rooms are on floors 2 to 5. This is not a problem, just something people considering this hotel should know. We had a great stay and loved every minute we spent at this hotel.
The location is ideal, just off gran Via, a stone's throw from the Prado, Puerta del Sol and Plaza Real. The hotel is well maintained, with modern/stylish decor. The rooms are a good size and come with all the conveniences needed. We loved the roof terrace - amazing views of the city. However, it's the friendly and attentive staff that made it so great for us. Would definitely return.
Have spend the most amazing 2 days in Madrid and in this great hotel. From the start everything was wonderful. My luggage was stored before check-in. Process itself went very smooth despite late hours, done with a smile and confidence. Small but very sufficient choice of breakfast items, and quickly done omelet was all I needed next morning. Room itself was actually quite small, but enough for such short stay, with comfortable bed. It also had tiny balcony, but with a great view over Grand Via, especially at night. Outside terrace on 7th floor is with to mention as well. Once there you no longer feel like in a big city, and you can relax and enjoy sun !!! Being myself a hotelier, I must admit hotel is doing great job and I would highly recommend it for anyone coming to beautiful city of Madrid!
We really enjoyed this hotel. The hotel itself was very well appointed, the staff was extremely helpful and the outdoor lounge was a terrific bonus. Our room, unfortunately, was on the inside overlooking a wall and therefore dark but a really good size and very comfortable, clean and chic (plus we were gone all day so the lack of sunlight wasn't a huge deal). I would absolutely recommend this hotel.
Stayed here for a week while my daughter moved to Spain. Nice location on gran Via and near points of interest. Hotel staff was very nice and responsive. Room staff ensured I had what I needed. Sheets were very good and room temp was perfect. Breakfast was just so so but the service was good. Fitness center is very small. Only a few small complaints- one night in the bar area the bartender was short on his wine pours compared to every other time. Upon checkout my bill was way to high without explanation. Tried to charge me three times as much. I pointed it out and it was quickly fixed but just be careful.
