Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shijo

The room size is small which is typical in Japan. Room is neat but the housekeeping can do better. Found hairs and dust on the floor. Also it is quite far away from Kyoto train station. You will need to take a subway or bus to the hotel especially you have big luggage with you. Tourist spot is at walking distance though. Staff are friendly.

This is a hotel that just hasn't kept up with the times... There's nothing terrible about it...just not much to recommend. As I've mentioned before, I travel to Kyoto a lot: about once every 6 months and was really looking forward to trying this place. I was almost won over by the incredibly helpful, resourceful and friendly front desk staff. They are EXCELLENT. The location is also good. It's right near the subway, many buses, and right above the Hankyu line to Osaka. Rooms are pretty average. There seem to be a higher-than-normal percentage of smoking rooms here, so chances are unless you can book on a site that allows you to definitively reserve a non-smoking room, you will get a smoking room. (Even if you attach it to your reservation as a request). Also, the wireless internet does not work consistently. Extremely slow especially at peak times. However, found a wired LAN chord in the desk drawer and once I plugged that in, that worked fine. But never would've known about it if I hadn't rummaged around. One of the reasons I wanted to stay here is the large common bath in the hotel, but was even unable to use that much because of the somewhat restricted opening hours. The main thing though, is it's in an area with a lot of comparably-priced tourist hotels and it just doesn't measure up. If it was cheaper, maybe. But it's actually slightly more expensive than most of the others. You can spend your money better elsewhere.

We stayed 3 nights at Mitsui garden Shijo in September. Loved the comforts of the hotel and the staff were welcoming and helpful too. The room was great, quiet and spacious. The amenities were great, loved the shiseido toiletries and the heated mirror! There was a big area map downstairs, as well as some newspapers in English to purchase. Most of the time there were taxis outside, which was handy for the trips to shinkansen station. If the taxi wasn't there, 5-10min wait and you'll catch one. Gyon area, Kyoto castle and Nishiki market were within a walking distance. Would stay again, definitely recommend

We stayed here for 3 nights, this is a good chain hotel, spacious room comfortable bed and offers a variety of amenities at the bathroom. The location is abit far from the central (10-15mins walking). But there is bus stop in front of the hotel and tourist can get the 1 day bus pass for unlimited rides on bus or subway at the hotel lobby vending machine. And there are bus route guides (from hotel) for tourist available at the hotel lobby. There are convenient stores around the hotel too. Overall a good stay at this hotel.

On our last trip to Tokyo, we stayed with Mitsui garden for 8nights and it was awesome! This time, they made us feel at home once again. If ever you need a good hotel, this is the one. A little small but compact. They provide you with all the amenities that you need. So there is no need to worry! A few of the reception does speak english and they were very helpful to us during our trip. There is a family mart right beside the hotel. It is very convenient. Bus stop right outside the hotel too. Pls check with the reception where does it lead to. Because we never took the bus there before. But we did take bus no 50 which is down a few blocks as you turn out to your right side from the hotel's entrance. This bus is very convenient to go around town and to the Kyoto station. Kyoto is a must for mochi. Do try this! We ate many along our encounter. Visit the nishiki market for lots of food varities.. infact the whole kyoto is all about food, culture and shopping! We love this place so much. Unfortunately we did not manage to catch a real geisha at gion. For moving around , either you use the icoca (prepaid card) or the visitor's day pass at 1200 yen per day. We got the 2 days pass at 2000yen. Add info about hotel: 1. There's a public onsen pool. 2. Coin laundry 3. You can also purchase your travelling day pass at the lobby. Check out for the machine.

This is a very convenient and comfortable hotel, we enjoyed our stay and could walk to many of the attractions we wanted to see. We enjoyed the onsen and the staff were really helpful with good english.

Location is good, just a few minutes to the nearest subway station i.e. Shijo or Karasuma Station. A convenience store is located just around the corner and there is also a mini market that sell quite a lot of things at a very reasonable price (cheaper than convenience store). Nice and clean public bath on the ground floor. Room is a bit small as expected and price is reasonable. Would recommend this place to my friends.

Compact rooms, like most in Japan, with comfortable beds but limited storage. Public onsen available. Convenience store almost next door. Breakfast mainly Japanese and has a good variety. Staff helpful. About ten minute walk to nearest metro station. Bus stop very close.

Good hotel, albeit with very small rooms. Don't get it confused with the hotel of the same name but 'sanjo', as its part of a chain. Staff were friendly and breakfast was decent. Central location near a Starbucks and plenty of restaurants/bars/shops.

Stayed in a triple room, it was slightly crammed but still had a generally nice atmosphere. There's a public bath on the first floor for guests, which I didn't use. Information centre near the entrance with helpful brochures. Apparently there's supposed to be a staff member there helping to answer questions but I didn't see anyone whenever I went in. Directions: Once out of Shijo station, just walk left on the main road all the way, past a busy bus stop, fruit stall, restaurant selling katsu sets with well-lit displays, until you see a family mart flag at a corner of a junction. Turn left and you should see the Family mart there, and the hotel is up ahead.
