We had been there for 2 nights with a 6 yrs old kid. The room in ocean wing is great with the Jacuzzi pool in the balcony. The giant beach is stunning whilst the pools and water slide there are fun proven. The staff there is super caring, considerate and helpful. We had lost some important stuff in the room after check out and we were so grateful to have the warm help from the service manager, Ms Furaya to help us find out and send to us immediately. We will sure go again.
We stayed at the Rasa RIa for the first two weeks in July - 2 adults and 3 kids (17, 16 and 10). Originally we had booked the Garden Wing, but we (as others) were given the option of an upgrade at extra cost to the Ocean Wing. We looked at both rooms and went for the upgrade. I would really recommend it if you can or want to. The Ocean Wing is very different to the Garden Wing. The Garden Wing has more going on, has slides in the pool for the kids, is busier and you are closer to all the restaurants apart from the Italian Oceanus which is where you have breakfast for the Ocean Wing. Ocean Wing is more serene and has a calmer atmosphere. The rooms are excellent. Large and airy - there is a huge bath on the terrace, with electric privacy blinds. The mini bar is replenished every day -you get 4 beers and around 6 assorted cans of soft drinks. If you can't drink them all, remove them from the mini bar anyway. You also get canapés and cocktails included from 5.30 to 6.30 in the original reception area, which was a lovely pre dinner ritual. Rooms are Very clean and comfortable - lovely bed with a choice of pillows. The hotel is about 30 minutes or so from Kota Kinabalu town but that can vary depending on when you travel. The traffic in and out of KK at morning and evening rush hour (s) is dreadfully busy. the resort is really first class - the location is stunning, there is a fantastic golf course and club house. All the restaurants are very good, some excellent. Breakfast is amazing with a vast choice of food. Freshly prepared crepes, omelettes etc etc and an a la carte menu with items such as eggs benedict. We loved the teppanyaki restaurant. The golf course club house does nice food too. Lots of activities to choose from. Nearly all extra cost but there are taster sessions for various water based activities. Kayaks and paddle boards are free to use. We did para sailing which was great. also went on the trip for snorkelling, which is off site. We didn't stay on the east of the island, but did fly over for the day - pretty cheap flight you can book on line with Air Asia from KK to Sandakan. Used the Apple macs in the coffee house and printer there to book and print your boarding pass. There you can visit the Sepilok Orangutan rehabilitation centre and also the Sun Bear centre. There is nothing you don't need at Rasa Ria. What really makes it though for me is the staff. they are so attentive and it is genuine. Nothing is too much trouble. I really like the Borneo people. Sonia the front desk manager at Ocean Wing is outstanding but to be fair, all the staff are excellent. We all really felt welcome, made to feel special and made to feel part of the Rasa Ria family. Every time we saw them we had a lovely greeting and were always asked if everything was OK. I really can't recommend this hotel enough.
Well where do you start. Great resort for a break, lots to do and beautiful location. We were family and 2 kids. For a big resort it does not feel overcrowded nor too big. The staff are just brilliant. The pool staff and those organising games for the kids were so friendly and got everyone involved in activities. My kids loved this. Some special touches included the beach volleyball games, staff got involved and then relaxing drinks afterwards with staff and players. What's more at the end of our week the staff handed us a signed picture of our group of players, with personal messages from all. A very nice touch, and very unexpected. Thanks to all, the Australian and Bangladesh family that were involved. Look out for Scarlet the red parrot flying around. :-) Only negative i can find would be its so far from any other areas, but this means you just relax and take advantage of the resort and facilities. Also beware of the sand flies, use the spray. Horrible little things.
I visit this resort with family almost every year with wonderful experiences every year. They have new arrangements every year and the staffs are extremely helpful and efficient. They all have happy faces and make you feel like at home. Except now with more PRC that unavoidable makes me feel tense but now this will happen everywhere in the world now
Rasa Ria is an idyllic resort with superb facilities and fantastic service. The room was lovely and spacious and spotlessly clean. The only downside was that the Indian Restaurant was closed which limited our choice slightly (it opened after refurbishment the day we left)
We love this place. It is a little paradise. It is our favorite place on earth, and we have stayed here many times. This time we stayed for 4 days at the Garden Wing. The Resort is so nice and beautiful, but most of all: the staff is fantastic. We always feel so welcome, it is like coming home, like we are a part of the Rasa Ria family, and that is what makes this place so very special. We will for sure recommend this little paradise, and we will return as soon as possible.
After the immaculate experience at Four Seasons Singapore and great disappointment in Gaya Island resort's quality and service, we moved to Shangri-La four nights earlier than we had planned without a booking. The Japanese host took a great care of us arranging everything (forgot your name, but many thanks!). We stayed at Ocean wing (highly recommended for the quiter pool and area, free drinks, etc). We enjoyed every moment. The dinner selection and choice at buffes were excellent, Japanese and Indian restaurants as well. And the breakfast at the Italian restaurant - fantastic! The golf course is the highlight of the resort - don't miss it! The only negative was that we hoped to see orangutang reserve at the resort, but it has seased the operation. We took a jungle walk, but that was very artificial with only one green viper that is probably "co-hosting" the excursion as its permanent resident :) And there's lots of Chinese, who seem like being the first time staying at a hotel... The kid enjoyed the see, we went fishing on the river which was a great experience, saw local fisherman in action in the bay. Made several excursions with our great taxi driver. Overall a very pleasant stay in a very pleasant place! Thanks to everyone!
My family and I visit this place every summer, and we never get bored of it. The beaches, the restaurants, the room and the spa all comes together to provide an extremely pleasing and relaxing experience. The staff are warm and friendly, always catering to our needs. Polite, and offers a smile at all times!
This is a fantastic resort, especially for families with kids. It is our second visit here. It is a huge resort with lots of open space. There is heaps to do here for kids. The recreation staff here are AMAZING! My ten year old boy went up to the Games Room and was gone for almost 2 hours. When I went up to check on him, he was being entertained the whole time by the recreation staff. Nothing is too much for them. If he wanted to play table tennis, then they would play with him. If he wanted to play pool, they would do this as well. It makes for a very relaxing holiday for parents. There is always something to do around the pool as well if you can ever get them off the water slide. Breakfast is very good here. Dinners are beautiful. Be prepared to put on lots of weight here. The food at Tepit Laut is fantastic. The staff at this whole hotel are wonderful. This is a credit to the management here and something that the Aussie hospitality industry should learn from. We didn't really venture out of the resort except to do the canopy walk up to the lookout. This was really good to do and a nice leisurely pace. No need to upgrade to Ocean Wing unless you want a quiet holiday. If you have kids, definitely don't stay at Ocean Wing - too quiet and heaps for kids to do over at the Garden Wing. This is one resort you won't be disappointed with. Thank you Recreation Staff for all the competitive table tennis games we played. I hadn't had the opportunity to have some good table tennis games since I was a kid. Thank you Rasa Ria for a wonderful holiday.
Beautiful location. Beach area and pool very nice and lots of activities if you want to be more active. Breakfast buffet out of this world and service very good in the restaurants. Fairly expensive though and because of the location you can't eat out very easily in other restaurants. We paid about £160-£200 for dinner with wine for a family of 5. Child prices for buffet only go up to age 11. A gin and tonic was around £8. Definitely would recommend.
