We took 2 rooms from 18-28Dec 2018, having previously stayed at the Tanjung Aru Shangri La a decade ago. Hyatt is a city hotel on the waterfront and lacks the resort facilities, but is so much more convenient for exploring the city and getting groceries. However we were completely won over with their outstanding personal care. Despite the high season and initial hiccups with room provisioning (aircon, furniture, bathroom) - we were never made to feel sorry for choosing Hyatt, nor that we should have to patienetly wait for a resolution. THe rooms were above average in size and not as impressive as other hotels' Executive Floor rooms - but the staff attentiveness and efficiency exceed what we've seen elsewhere in Asia. The Buffet Breakfast easily exceeds what you might expect in a place like KK, both in quality and quantity. Standard of preparation is high, and the chefs on duty all look very experienced. In comparison during the trip, we had a buffet meal at the ShangriLa - and regretted it. Ingredients were expensive and fresh, but the meat was tough, the taste was off, and it looked as if the cooks were all trainees. Our only grouse about the buffet breakfast was the menu was largely the same except for one or two different dishes on some mornings. The Executive Club is on the 13th floor, with a glorious view of the sea, Gaia Island, and the sunset. We spent almost every evening and all our free time there, and made friends with Emily, the very pleasant Manager, and her very knowledgeable staff. Their generous offering of all-day refreshments and daily Happy Hour morsels (quality food) really make you feel papmered. In comparison, hotels that skimp on the happy hour offerings can leave you feeling shortchanged, anxious to get back early for a share, and generally sorry you expected more. Hyatt does well to go in a contrary direction by exceeding expectations. The Gym, on the other hand, could use a little more attention (airconditioning not cold ), although it was passable. To their credit, we requested a foam roller before our visit, and although they did not have this item, they promptly obtained not one but FOUR! Thanks to Priscilla, the Spa Manager! The swimming pool was a little smaller than it looked in the photo, but was a good place to practice some snorkel techniques before our snorkelling trip! Being directly outside the Breakfast Buffet place, it was also an idyllic venue to 'defrost' when the breakfast area became too uncomfortably icy (22 degrees, one morning). Our 10 days at Hyatt would have been quite unremarkable if not for three people - Olivia Cho, the Assistant Director of Rooms, Suzzie Charles , her very capable Guest Experience Executive, and Thor Gervasi, their General Manager. I can only speculate on how they get the Hotel running so well, but the team spirit, genuine warmth and customer orientation were exemplary. If you are planning a trip to KK, I can safely recommend the Hyatt Regency as long as these folks are working there!
Had a wonderful stay over the holidays at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu. Especially pleased with the service received from Sunny and the rest of the staff at the club lounge. She helped out not only with our stay at the hotel but also with recommendations on other places to visit in Malaysia.
the best hotel...staff very friendly always smile and heplfull.., best dim i townsum..more variety and foods at tanjong ria. I will recomend to my family, my staffs and my friends. Thanks hyatt be the best.
There was a miscommunication between staff at front desk and the housekeeping. The cleaning lady came into my room eventhough the do not disturb sign was on and took my envelop with money from my bag.
I like how friendly the staff is, especially during breakfast time. The room is quite good but need few upgrade especially on the power source (USB). I try Nagisa for the Japanese food and it is very delicious.
I dont feel welcomed as the members. Not sure about the occupancy rates when I checked in, but a better room could be offered for at least for a better view as I requested. The room is spoiled with fitting issue i.e. noisy bathroom door, open tiles and smelly corridoors.
Room: The room was large and spacious. This is what agreeable to. However, the room look old and need refurbishment. Minibar: Coffee/tea for the room. . Bathroom - Bathroom was large and clean. Bath and shower gel available. Water pressure good. Location: Centrally located at heart of Kota Kinabalu. Nearby malls and restaurant. Service - Hyatt Regency if mention to Sabahan will be a high class and luxury hotel to be step in. My first impression was really excited to stay at this wonderful well-known brand of properties and expecting it world class services. Just for your info, 2 days before arrival at your hotel, I did call to extend early my stay with you by using the same corporate rate but paying by my own expense. This is was I usually done to all the 4-5 star hotel around Malaysia even Le-Meridien, and Sheraton. They all extend it without even any problem EXCEPT FOR HYATT REGENCY. Your reservation refuse to extend the rate to stay and want me to direct with my company HR. I was like... WHAT? What kind of policy is this? Does that mean the employee of the company can't use the rate except must got official letter from the HR? I'm sure that company will have a contract with the hotel to secure a no's of room per year to qualify for the special rate, So I rechange my question and I say i would like to book a room on that date under the corporate. cash on arrival. again this is REJECTED. Reason is it was a CONFIDENTIAL RATE and I need to get the written letter from HR to get that rate. Crazy enough. Is that mean employee on vacation need to notify the HR about their whereabout just to USE YOUR HOTEL for the corporate rate? Totally nonsense. End up luckily the room is large enough for me to stay with my other two colleague who early check-in. Overall, I was really disappointed with the HYATT EXPERIENCE. Value: NO COMMENT as it was consider CONFIDENTIAL by the hotel itself.. F&B: No F&B..However there are plenty restaurant nearby with KFC just in front of the hotel.
again, Hyatt did not disappoint my family and me.. our 3 nights stay was really great. great location and easy access to food and connected shopping mall.the food also nice. high recommended to stay here if you are coming for business / holiday
Our family stayed 3 nights in Hyatt. It has most central location, right next to Wisma Merdeka shopping mall. 500m to the Gaya Street and 500m to Suri Sabah . 1 min to the water front. We had 2 city view connecting room and found the room most spacious. the room temperature cannot be controlled, we have to ask the maintenance team to adjust. No complaint but it can be very cold during night time 22degree We skip the buffet breakfast cost 90 riggit per person. We had our breakfast at nearby coffee shop , which is opposite street . The coffee shop sell traditional noodle , porridge and bao at local prices. There is also 7 eleven and laudry shop ( 1 kg @ 3.8 riggit).Collection is 1 day. We found it very convenient and cheap.During our stay, it is raining every evening. The hotel provided umbrellas for guests to run across the street for KFC and little Italy and Fatty Kee. Very good location. The pool is small by my standard The bed mattress is old and springy. The standard cannot be compared to Hilton or Le Meridien . But it is a good solid hotel in Town.
We booked the suite room which is very large. Even the bathroom is as large as a bedroom. The breakfast at the hotel is the main attraction with varieties of delicious foods, western, oriental, japanese and local. 5 minutes walk to the seafood bazaar.
