We stayed two nights in one of the motel rooms and five nights in one of the cabins. Both were cleaned excellently and were very cozy. The cabin had a kitchenette and came stocked with pots and pans, dishware, silverware, and cooking utensils. We ate breakfast and dinner at the Powder House restaurant. We had a great experience dining in for breakfast and placing pickup orders for dinner to eat back in our motel room. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone wanting scenic lodging in the Black Hills!
Very nice very well updated loved the vibe of the property.

The room was much smaller than it appeared online or was indicated in the description. Not comfortable for 2 people. There was no mention that the room we reserved was up a flight of uneven stone steps. They were lovely to look at, but with arthritis and carrying luggage it was a not safe. The person in the unit next to ours said he slipped and fell on them. Thankfully he wasn't injured. The area is lovely and it was unique to be in the log cabin feel, but it didn't turn out as I had hoped. The food at the restaurant was good.
Visited in first week of October and the cabins were amazing, we loved them! The distance to Mt rushmore was also really close. The heater unit in the cabin worked well enough to quickly heat it up. The shower was also nice.
We ate the breakfast at the restaurant and it was decent. The cinnamon apple pancakes were okay.
Overall the visit was nice.

Room was freezing upon arrival. Heating unit is old and very loud and you hear your neighbor’s unit kick in just as yours stops, making it’s impossible to sleep. Food at the adjacent restaurant was great with lots of options for breakfast and dinner. Wait time for dinner may be 1+ hours. We were given an option of calling ahead to be put on a wait list, but I couldn’t get past busy signal for several minutes and had to go there in person to be able to order carry out.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
The restaurant was the best place about it. Food and service were excellent and prices reasonable. The rooms were a bit dated and therefore could have used more upkeep i.e. regrouting tiles, touch up of broken wood doorways, etc. The floor was FREEZING! The heater/air conditioner was in the window and did not warm the room without having to turn it up to 78*. It was super loud so we couldn't hear the TV when it clicked on every 5 minutes. All the cabins are up on a hill so unless you wanted to walk a steep incline to the restaurant for breakfast or dinner (no lunch), you had to drive. Also, we were in a duplex so we could hear much of what happened in the room next door as I could imagine they could hear our TV. No room service as with most places now. Staff was helpful and friendly.
We absolutely love staying at the Powder House lodge. Great cabins and phenomenal, well-priced food at their restaurant. The only negative would be road noise in some of the cabins.
Place was very clean they had a restaurant on the property with a great breakfast. Located near Rushmore but away from the circus atmosphere in keystone
This was a very neat place to stay on my solo trip to the Black Hills area. The restaurant was very nice and the food very delicious. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The refrigerator was noisy because it was balanced and the door was hard to close.
Very disappointed in the quality of food. We ( Sister and I ) ordered the Elk medallions and each received 2 chunks of Elk that were so tough that we needed a sawzaw to cut through it. IT was the worst Elk dish I have ever had at a restaurant. I should have sent it back to the kitchen but didn't want to make a scene. The mash potatoes were salty. The side salad was good though.
Very accommodating. Didn’t like first room in motel. Drab, noisy. Explained to check in staff and was moved to log cabin with King bed and bath and parking space outside door. Still small but very nice and comfortable. Fridge, microwave , desk, chair, tv. I would suggest booking directly with Powder House yo avoid confusion about room. Price in off season reasonable ( the same or less).
We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay. Cabin was great, staff was very friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect for our travels in the Black Hills area. If we return to the area, we will stay here again. Very nice!
