On paper, this hotel has the potential to be fantastic. Beautiful location, in a quieter part of town and a superb view from the terrace. The staff on the whole were also friendly, even if the service was a bit shambolic (i.e. ordering 3 different mains in a row to be told over 30 minutes they didn't have those available - the restaurant is very poor compared to excellent ones on offer in the town). However, our biggest frustration was the constant construction work in the hotel next door. Owing to the heat, work only really gets going from about 6pm and runs through until 2-3am. Needless to say the noise is highly disruptive, making sleep impossible. For what should be a really tranquil island this really impacted our stay. Coupled with all the dust and other disruption from the construction work, I would strongly advise you do not stay until the work is finished (until end 2019 I would estimate). We raised the issue with hotel management, who to their credit recognised the problem and offered a night's refund. This refund has never materialised, and I am now having to seek a refund via my credit card company as the hotel does not returns e-mails or calls. As said, the hotel has the potential to be fantastic but as many other reviews highlight, they need to get the basics right, fix many of the snags and work much harder to justify the premium price they charge.

My partner and I stayed at Spirit for three nights and it was our favourite place in a two week trip of Tulum/Bacalar/Holbox. The hotel is located 10 seconds from a beautiful part of private beach which in our opinion is the best in Holbox. Although there may be other more expensive hotels closer to town, these do not nearly have a nice a beach and Spirit is only a 10 minute walk. The rooms are spacious and beautifully clean with wonderful views. Lastly, the staff, both in reception and especially in the rooftop bar/restaurant, are incredibly helpful and polite.

Arrived a half hour before sunset, had a drink, a bottle of wine, and dinner! Food was tasty and the view unforgettable! The waiter offered to take our picture with the sun setting - what a great memory to capture.

Some might really like Spirit Holbox... overall, we were disappointed and wished we'd stayed somewhere else. First, the positives. With the growth of tourism on Isla Holbox in recent years, the crowds and noise have increased dramatically. Located far from the town center, Spirit offers a less crowded beach and is quiet at night. The view from the rooftop (where meals are served) is fantastic. The staff is very nice, though some obviously were inexperienced. The included breakfast was the same every morning, but good. But for us there was lots of negatives. The location, on the flip side, requires a cab ride to get to the town center and back. Our room was weird. Bare concrete walls and floors. Sparsely yet oddly furnished with a Queen Anne love seat and a huge chrome and mirrored headboard. It looks like they might have been trying for eclectic, but didn't quite make it work. The workmanship on the hotel was very shoddy. Where window sills or other areas were painted, the work was very sloppy. When the concrete on the balcony was done, what splashed on the door frame was just left there to dry. The top of the table on the balcony was dirty and rusty. Cleaning was perfunctory. The dirt in all the corners of the balcony when we checked in was there when we checked out. We also would have enjoyed some quiet at breakfast time instead of the constant music. (One morning, when the internet was down and the music streaming was unavailable, we we are to enjoy listening to the waves as we sipped coffee.) There was a light on every balcony, not controlled by the guest, that stayed on until well after midnight. Because of that, we had to keep our curtains drawn and AC on. We would have liked to save the AC and enjoy the sound of the sea at night. Lights on the beach are also not good for the turtle population as they can confuse baby turtles making their way to the sea when they hatch. The room design provided no cross ventilation, so even during the day it was necessary to use the AC. And this at a hotel that bills itself as eco-friendly. There are no lamps in the room, only overhead recessed lights. To read in bed , I had to use a headlamp. Lastly, there is limited shade on the beach for those (like us) that don't want to bake in the sun. If this hotel was $60 a night, we'd have no complaints. But for a somewhat pricey hotel, it was a poor value and did not provide a comfortable stay. Some other reviewers like this hotel. Depends on what you're looking for.

My husband and I went there for our 10th anniversary we enjoyed very much, Luis at concierge was very helpful and explained us the activities, we had an incredible time we can t wait to be back literally a paradise

My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay at Spirit in Feb of 2019. It is a small hotel and makes great effort to be environmentally responsible which we appreciated, as we could see that Hotbox is growing very quickly. Before we left I read a few reviews that were concerned about the hot water. The trick to the hot water is that the shower handles are not intuitive to Americans. The distal end of the handle has to be pointed towards the H! It takes a min or two for the hot water to come so if you give up too quickly it seems like there isn't any hot water. Once we figured this out we had lovely warm showers. If you feel as if you must have lots of choices in a breakfast buffet this is not the right hotel for you. If you cringe at the waste of "all you can eat" buffets and enjoy fresh simple breakfasts then you will be delighted. Every morning we were served made to order eggs and plates of fresh fruit and plenty of toast. The staff knew our beverage choices on the second day. The restaurant on the roof was a lovely place to start and end our days, comfortable and casual. The dinners we ate there were delicious. There are many Europeans who stay at this hotel and we enjoyed listening to several languages floating around us. The wait staff switched effortlessly between Spanish, French and English. The receptionist spoke excellent English and Spanish and were very helpful in arranging Taxis when necessary. The only thing I would change about our experience was the location of our room ( #3) which was on the ground floor, and at a rather busy intersection. The evenings/nights were peaceful, but during the day , when our window was open there were lots of people going here and there and we had to choice between natural light or closing the curtains to afford a little privacy.

The view is incredible, staff is lovely, and the sushi is unmatched. We started with the Nigiri sampler. 10 pieces of the best sushi we have ever eaten. We went back twice and tried every single sushi, sashimi, roll on the menu. The Nigiri was the best.

We spent 5 nights at Spirit Holbox and liked it a lot! Professional service, especially the bartender Alberto😊 good location, calm but not to far away from town center. The beach is just 30m from the hotel.

We spent three days at this hotel, is nice, the restaurant is really good and the waiters are super cool, but despite the fact that the cold front had passed a week ago, they had not fixed the grass or set up the pool on the ground floor, poor experience for the price of the hotel "boutique”...

This gem of a hotel captures the spirit of Isla Holbox. A perfect location; a kilometre walk along the white sands to the centre and similarly to Punta Coco. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is served on the panoramic roof terrace restaurant - eggs cooked to order. Food is freshly and carefully prepared - we had an excellent meal with grilled octopus. Wonderful sunsets. Rooms on first and second floors have ocean views and the sounds of the sea. The beach is just a few seconds away. We had the fabulous master suite but all rooms looked lovely.
