The White Sands Hotel is one of only two remaining 1960’s Waikiki walk up hotels. I love the charm and the soul of the place. I also love the central courtyard with the tropical garden, the outdoor bar and restaurant, and the pool. I do not like more contemporary high rise hotels (recent construction) that seem sterile and plastic to me. I felt very safe as a solo woman traveler, and you can easily walk to everything that Waikiki has to offer.

The swings at the bar were what got my attention- super cute and chill vibe. Loved the retro feel and the food/drink options in the lobby and at the bar were great. The beds we had weren’t that comfortable. I did like the ice machine with water bottle filler. The rooms had good style. It’s easy to walk to the beach from the hotel or catch a ride to U of H.

I had high hopes for White Sands Hotel, but our stay was incredibly disappointing. 1. Parking nightmare: There was no parking available for guests. We were told to park on the street during a very busy weekend. After arriving at 1 a.m., we spent over 40 minutes circling the area just to find a spot. 2. Terrible directions & accessibility: When we finally checked in, staff sent us in the complete opposite direction of our room. Our room was 3 floors up, and there are no elevators — which would have been helpful to know in advance, especially for anyone with mobility issues or heavy luggage. 3. Cleanliness issues: This was the worst part — we found a used tampon sitting on the bathroom light fixture. Completely unacceptable. We immediately informed the front desk, and their response was to offer us either a room change or a $30 food credit. This does not make up for the absolute lack of cleanliness and hygiene standards.

We stayed right under the speakeasy so music would be loud till about 2am. It was very hard to relax after a day of activities. The rooms could’ve been more clean. It was dusty. The bar & pool was really cute. There’s also no stairs but you can have staff take your stuff up for you.

I loved the quaint Hawaiian feel about the hotel. The staff was excellent. Unfortunately, we were there during the tsunami warning, but the staff offered us a higher level room and treated everything. Excellent. The service was excellent. The staff was fantastic. The rooms were clean. the location was perfect absolutely perfect. Everything was walking distance. Would most definitely stay again. They had some kind of entertainment most nights and have a speakeasy bar at night really appreciated the hospitality. The bar was super cool and the food was yummy.
