Negatives: 1. Poor Housekeeping - the housekeeper did not bother to clean anything - did not bother to vacuum clean so there was hair everywhere all the time. Very dirty- see one of our photos for proof which shows breadcrumbs on the blanket we used on the floor for the children. After cleaning our room the breadcrumbs were still all there!! 2. The mirrors in the room were tinted which was very annoying as you cannot see yourself properly in the mirror so it’s pointless. so there was only one mirror in the bathroom for use. Not good. 3. Main issue for us: two twin beds were given to us which meant my Husband and I had to sleep separately for that week and we had to use a bed guard for my toddler instead of sleeping between the two of us. When we complained they showed us a room with a king size bed which was much smaller so we had no choice but to stick with two twin beds for space in the room. The twin beds could not be pushed together to make one bed unfortunately. 4. Low water pressure shower 5. Room dining is just so expensive that it is impossible to afford anything to order. Prices are extortionate! One of the nights when we were desperate for food and all food places had closed we were not able to use room service as the prices are just so high that it’s impossible to afford. That’s how the hotel makes its money! Positives: 1. Very nice staff/very helpful 2. We LOVED the Nespresso machine and 3 free coffee pods a day + creamer. This was just great! 3. Very big room 4. Lots of different lights in the room 5. Beautiful Xmas decorations throughout the hotel (we stayed end of November) 6. A great little ramen restaurant just opposite the hotel main entrance 7. Direct access to Harbour City mall (which is a huge shopping centre with Lane Crawford department store)....... access from the hotel to the mall is step-free access from both the ground floor and the first floor as we had a stroller so this was very important (but the mall itself has steps everywhere within the mall so no access for strollers which is just ridiculous which limited which part of the mall I can get to with a baby and a toddler in a double stroller. This is the case everywhere in Hong Kong - so Hong Kong is not a suitable holiday destination for mothers with strollers. LOVED THE LOCATION of this hotel- Very convenient location with access to mall.....for example the mall on the 3rd floor has a very good supermarket and bakery and a deli so you can walk there in 5 minutes to buy everything you need and not bother with the highly overpriced hotel room service
As usual, I had a wonderful stay at Gateway Hotel Marco Polo. I always stay here if i'm in Hong Kong. I usually make my trip to HK every year between Jan Feb or March because of the weather. What I love about this hotel is it's connected to a stretch of shopping and lots of food options, normally well known ones. So it's pretty convenient for me.
Stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights. Though the lobby is small, we were welcomed and attended at once. We were able to check in to our room earlier than 2:00 PM. The guestroom is large, big enough to accommodate four people. Decor and interior is modern. Comfort room is complete with bathroom amenities. Another good thing about Gateway is the free consumption of min bar items and these are replenished everyday. As far as the location is concern, it is close to shopping areas, accessible to train stations and very near the ferry station. I had a great time here and will definitely consider coming back.
I'm always looked after with warmth & professionalism. My first choice when staying in HKG. Nothing is too much bother for the friendly staff, and the stress-free environment here is ideal when I'm working late.
Check in at lobby took very long time, more than an hour as we are a family with kids and senior, it was hard, and the lobby was very basic, and not so friendly for family with kids to wait. Room was spacious, carpeted, kid friendly (we had a toddler and an 8 year old kid) and comfortable. Beds and pillows were clean and nice to sleep on, bathroom is spacious, clean and no leaks. Location is prime if you want to shop the high end and luxury retailers, and many other malls, shops around the area. They even have access to gateway mall. Breakfast buffet was great, loved the wide selection, still family and kid friendly. Rough start, but turned out to be a nice family vacation in hong kong.
Stayed here for 4 nights in a deluxe room on 9th floor. Great location close to the pier and train station and attached to harbour city shopping complex. The room itself was lovely and clean with mini bar replenished daily. The room was rather dark as our window looked out onto another building which was a shame but apart from sleeping we didn’t spend much time in there anyways. The smartphone provided by the hotel was awesome as we could take it with us and connect to their wifi whilst we were out and use it for maps to navigate our way around. We also were given a late 4pm check out as our flight didn’t leave till 7pm that night Which was a great help for us. Would highly recommend.
I had previously stayed at The Gateway hotel several years ago when it was in urgent need of renovations. I went back this year and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the renovations. The rooms are nicely furnished with a comfortable bed and all the modern requirements including a Nespresso machine. The bathroom is spacious and they did well to get rid of the tub. Being a very busy hotel, service although not warm is efficient. The best part of the hotel is that its connected to the gargantuan Harbour City Shopping mall with an array of shops and dining options. The MTR station is also within walking distance. This hotel is prefect for shopping enthusiasts and acceptable for business travellers as well. My only problem with the hotel is that there is no real lobby and its not an ideal place to meet and greet people.
This is a great hotel in the centre of Hong Kong‘s shopping district. We got a limousine from the airport to the hotel (and back) which made arrival and departure easy. The check-in was easy, quick and pleasant. The Executive floor offers great food in a relaxed atmosphere, well away from the crowd. The suite was stylish, clean and very convenient. A great bonus is that Marco Polo provides a free mobile phone with internet access which is just a simple idea that can make all the difference. We will definitely come back.
You can't beat this hotel for location - as noted by others, it is in the heart of the busy shopping district of Tsim Sha Tsui. But note that you're on Kowloon side and island side (some deem island side swankier). You're an easy 10min walk from the nearest MTR which will drop you right into the heart of Central so that's not really an issue. Rooms are great - spacious (by Hong Kong standards, let's get real). So are the bathrooms. Just to give you an idea, it has separate bathtub and shower with plenty of wiggle room. Bed are comfortable and if you close the curtains, you can just about shut out the sounds from busy Canton Road. I got the room facing the street. I'm told that the harbour view ones are the best - haven't tried. Service is efficient and fairly friendly - it is Hong Kong and time is money, as they say! Reason why I gave this property an average rating is upon check-in, I found lots of hair clogging up the shower drain - that's pretty gross. And I swear the wifi is super patchy. I was here for business and it was frustrating trying to retrieve/reply emails. Won't be a bother if you're here for leisure. Another point to note, there are a few hotels in Harbour City (it is a HUGE mall with almost everything in it) and if you're not careful, the cabbie will drop you off at the wrong one. The entrance to this one is next to the Fendi boutique. It's small - blink and you will miss it.
Gateway Hotel is right smack in the middle of the busy shopping district of Tsim sha Tsui -- perfect for tourists and shoppers, and close enough to the MTR to move to any other part of HK. Hotel is a bit pricey but for the location and the facilities (big spacious rooms), it's what you're actually paying for. Staff are very friendly, especially the more senior ones.
