The town closest to it is a dump. When i asked about where to get dinner, they just gave me a 2pg listing of every restaurant nearby. I wasted an hour driving through a town that I wouldn't get out of my car in. Next time just point me to the 2 or 3 restaurants that don't loom like a complete dump.
Nearby Mahanoy City is an old coal mining town that has seen better days, but it still has plenty of good places to eat. The front desk gives out an area restaurant and delivery option list to our guests. During these difficult times we also suggest calling restaurants in advance to make sure they are open for indoor dining. Even during your recent stay, our governor changed some of the restrictions on restaurants. My daughter was traveling back from college and had a tire blow out. By the time AAA showed up she was too tired to continue the trip. I was able to find this hotel and get her a place to stay that was friendly and safe.
The room is roomy, clean and well appropriated, as others have mentioned. We stayed 2 nights, and both nights were not able to sleep through the night due to noise from a room upstairs. It sounded like a war zone. The woman was wearing heels one night and the sound that came through was terrible...the people above us seem to have some sort of issue as they were up all night, moving, moving things, and banging on things ALL NIGHT LONG.I can't imagine how people can stomp across a floor for 12 hours, but they did.It sounded like they were dragging furniture over the floor. I have stayed in many hotels and I do not believe this one is properly soundproofed. I could hear most of their conversation, and someone drumming on a surface! The second night we called the desk twice and they called upstairs. Nothing changed. We were woken up at 11:30PM, 2AM and 5AM by the noisy neighbors on the second night after calling the desk. We had a 12 hour drive the next day and told them that. My husband told them he wanted a refund Saturday night, none came. We told the person at the desk , and he said that maybe they were pacers...no "sorry", no refund...nothing...it is shame it was a beautiful hotel. All they had to do was come to our room and listen for 5 minutes, to realize there was stuff going on over our heads that was NOT normal noise. The front desk could also have went to that floor and stood outside the door of the noisy folks to realize what was going on. My husband wears hearing aids, and of course takes them out at night...HE was awakened by the noise from upstairs several times. It was terrible...and unfortunately nothing was really done...I would say if you are a heavy sleeper you will love it, otherwise , steer clear.
