We just wanted a place that was clean, close, comfortable and convenient to get to and from. This was exactly what we had wanted. They also were able to recommend a restaurant that fit our needs and made us feel at home.
We stayed one night. Room 128 was clean and looked new. It was a strange layout. Long entryway, but then small sitting area with a desk and sofabed in the corner, then a partition for the queen bedroom. The sofabed was twin-sized, so for a family of 4, it was tight, but the hotel was sold-out. But for one night, the room was fine. We used the water-park access. There were no towels available. One of the water slides was closed and had caution tape over the entry opening and the end of the slide, however, there were teenagers that were going through it anyway, walking through, sliding through it (even though there was no water). There were no lifeguards or people attending the water park, so we informed the front desk, but I believe they're not affiliated with the water park and has separate mgmt. The hotel staff was very nice, and even made sure that breakfast was ready right at 6am, bc she knew that the majority of guests were leaving early the next morning and wanted to make sure they had breakfast. Overall, the hotel is in a good location with a TON of restaurants and stores nearby, and based on one night, it was a good hotel.
The front staff was very friendly! The room was nice and in good condition. The pool area could really use a facelift. It was kind of dark and dreary. The breakfast was very good and I feel like we got our money's worth.
Nice clean hotel with friendly, enthusiastic staff. Great location with restaurants nearby. We really enjoyed our time in Gillette and would like to return to visit longer. If we do, we will stay here.
We stayed overnight at this Fairfield after a visit to Mount Rushmore. The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the indoor waterpark (shared with the hotel next door) was so much fun for my kids! Also, the hot tub was huge and a big plus. We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It seemed to be extremely well run and taken care of. We ordered Jimmy John's for dinner and the driver delivered it right to the hotel room.. nice bonus for a small town/city. My kids LOVED the chocolate chip cookies, complimentary at the front desk.
Honestly, we had no idea where Gillette, WY was when we booked this, we were just looking for a place to stay during some travels out west. But we experienced great service here from the front desk, had a really nice, clean, and quiet room, and I thought I should go on record with it. We really enjoyed our stay here and found Gillette to be a nice town.
This is everything you would expect from a Fairfield -- spotless room, comfy bed, plenty of cable channels, fast internet, quiet, and good breakfast selection. Plenty of uncovered, close-in parking. Rates are a good value, too. I'd stay here again.
Spent 5 days in the Yellowstone area camping. Needed a hotel to stay at before heading to the Black Hills for 5 more days of camping. Found the Fairfield online. The waterpark was the big selling point on this hotel. I have two kiddos, 6 and 10 and they were devastated to hear the water park was closed. Checked in, got a room near the laundry facilities. Forgot to get the wristbands for the waterpark. Went back to get them and they said that it was closed. She said it might be open tomorrow. We went to look at it and the small pool was open and hot tub was running but the rest of the park was half drained and there were large piles of dirt around. I figured there would be no way it would be open tomorrow - front desk person was misinformed. If I had known that, I would have chosen a different property let alone a different city. We built this hotel into our trip based on it having the waterpark. The room was terribly noisy. Felt like there were a dozen kids jumping off the bed in the room above us - until midnight. The pillows were terrible. I slept better in the Rock Springs Walmart parking lot. Breakfast in the morning was ok. They had a selection of bacon, sausage link and sausage patties in one bowl. All I could see was the pool of grease at the bottom of the bowl. The front desk girl in the morning was hiding off in the corner with her head down. Didn't seem like she wanted to be there either. Just a terrible experience.
I noticed from having read other traveler's posts on this property that there had been issues with the "water" area. We asked if they had a hot tub and were told yes. They didn't mention that there was a major construction project going on. This attraction was heretofore advertised as a water play area with slides for the young'uns. However, the pool was empty and taped off. The rest of the area appeared to be clean. Upon entering this indoor area, there was a noticeable strong smell of chlorine, due to inadequate ventilation- a red flag for me. We passed on the hot tub as there were a number of unsupervised children about. At the included breakfast in the morning, the fare appeared adequate. However, there was a "large" family there who commandeered the food, especially the waffle cooker. I mean, literally for the hour that we sat there watching. They had a large collection of hard boiled eggs, waffles cut up, fruit, milk. The young girl of the family sneezing o her hand, then picking out pieces of bacon for herself, by hand while she was working the waffle cooker- apparently unaware of the other guests who were waiting. NO ONE from the hotel monitored or corrected the situation. The family, then piled up all the dishes and carried off a large amount of food for themselves. On the plus side, the hotel was new. Front staff was courteous and efficient. We were able to park our car near our room and see it through our window. Unloading the car was easy. The hotel was quiet. The fan and a/c in our room was a little noisy but did the job. We were able to get fast dinner at Qdoba's nearby. The room and and décor was immaculate. We spent a total of $95 for the room. The bed was kingsize and very comfortable. Check out was at noon. The curtains were good sun blockers which helped for sleeping in after a long drive. I gave it 4 stars only because of the unsupervised breakfast buffet. This was unusual, I think. I think the hotel should put up a sign about hoarding food and not being courteous to others who are also there to eat.
Great hotel to stay at when visiting Devils Tower and Mt. Rushmore. Only 1 hour from DT and 2 hours from MR. Cheaper and less congested. Good local restarants. Hotel clean with helpful staff. Roads easy to travel. Free breakfast at hotel is typical.
