Cool place to rest. Dinner on property. Very good Staff was very helpful. Very unique place. Cool room.
A beautifully maintained Roue 66 gem. I love everything about this place, except lets get a bit more salt on those 1/2 pound burgers! :)
Great place!
The southwest decor inside the hotel is as good as it gets. Built in 1937 and revised in the late 80s after reopening.
This is a cool hotel but a rough town. The room was nice- super hipster and comfortable with great water pressure. Our tv wouldn’t work, we went to the other building with the office, were promised someone would come by, they never showed up. Obvs not a huge deal but it was pretty annoying after traveling all day to sit in the room and listen to the highway (the record player in the room didn’t work either).
Friendly, fast and accurate
Loved the history, style and stay! Restaurant was also top notch!
Very cute place staff was great. People walking around the parking lot asking for money and checking into things. Hardly to no hot water. No microwave.. air conditioning was broke, but that’s not their fault. Food was good in restaurant Overall it was very cute, decorations of the past.
Cool place
The check in process was exceptionally long, especially since we were the only ones checking in. The elevator is very old and has a manual door and gate that you must open and close yourself. The air conditioner isn’t he room didn’t blow cold and the bathroom is tiny. While the property is appealing, the sign says modern comfort but doesn’t deliver.
I travel less travelled parts of the West. When I looked into where to rest in my trip from Salida, Co. to Picacho, AZ, Gallup was the perfect midway stop. I love to stay in properties that have some character to make the trip more enjoyable and memorable. Hotel El Rancho came up in my search and the description on Orbitz looked like exactly what I was looking for. I have worked for the Oxford hotel and the Brown Palace and I have a warm place in my heart for historic hotels. The moment I pulled into the drive of of El Rancho, I knew I made a great choice! The drive up vibe was unlike anything I have seen . While the hotel is located on a main throughfare, the facade immediately lets you know you are not about to stay in a ordinary chain hotel. As you start inside, you are pushing front doors that were pushed by the likes of John Wayne, Gregory Peck and Mae West. I had a friendly welcome/check-in and on my way to the Jack Carson room (rooms are named after movie stars) there was a local historian talking to the guests around the lobby fireplace. You can't help but wonder about the stories told and enjoyed around that fireplace through the decades. The beautiful lobby is almost overwhelming as you are surrounded by historic western artifacts and autographed glamor shots of so many icons of the western film world. My room was clean, quiet and fully appointed. El Rancho is not a Disney creation. It is authentic and a rare gem in the hospitality universe.
Very historic, lots of cool old photos. The amenities were weak, I was running the heating system fan in the room to drown out the traffic noise(room faced the interstate single pane windows)so I could sleep, it just kept getting warmer even when I switched the control to cooling. I found out later that the old HVAC system was either hot or cold the room thermostat couldn't override the furnace. In the am I waited until 7am to use the restaurant I went down there 3 times between 7-7:30 the door was open a sign stating wait to be seated, no one there.
We loved the atmosphere of the hotel and everything else. What we disliked was not having convenient outlets and the pillows were way too hard.
Loved the historical aspect of it
stay was fine, on-site restaurant leaves a lot to be desired in terms of service and quality of food.
