On entering the reception, I thought I was moved from New Mexico to India as there was a VERY prominent smell of curry allover the place. Nothing against curry and the people from India. In Asia I would probably not even noticed the smell but in northern NM this was kind of distorting. The motel is located right between the railway freight yard and the local small airport. Although the air traffic was not so heavy, the freight trains were coming and going very often; it felt like every 30 minutes but this is probably not correct. At least the room was clean and at motel average standards. In the morning, we got a call from the reception if we want to have breakfast. - We believe this call was meant in a good way but it came across more like the lady wanted her work finished.
Passing through and needed a place to sleep just for the night. The on-site owners are very dedicated to a good customer experience. It's an older property on the other side of the expressway from most commerce, and some updating wouldn't hurt, but it's just a 5 minute drive to basically any type of restaurant. Room was very clean. Bed, pillows were very comfortable. A good value for the $57, tax included. I will stay here when I pass through Gallup again. Good job!
Owners were over the top helpful! Basic model with no frills. Limited contentinal breakfast. TV satellite was messed up but workable. Recently updated and very clean. Any problems or issues are immediately addressed.
The physical property is definitely a three star experience (maybe for some folks a two-star), but everyone that worked there was so genuine and friendly that the place deserves four stars. Gallup in general is tired and rundown, so too are many of the motels. So don't expect anything about the place to be perfectly maintained, but do expect extraordinary hospitality. We appreciated that the entire property was fenced and the only way in or out was through the portico by the office. It made the vast expanse of gravel and black top feel more secure. We like to save money by cooking in our room when we can. That was easy to do with the fridge and microwave provided, plus the Shop n' Save grocery store was just a few blocks away. (Side note - if you are into "grocery store tourism" like we are, you'll love the time-machine-like patina of Shop n' Save.) There was a smidge of protein at the breakfast in the form of peanut butter. We appropriated the effort.
Very impressed with the service and amenities - including things I have never had before in a hotel room such as toothpaste, toothbrush, razor - at an extremely reasonable price. Friendly helpful staff, large room includes a very large screen tv, a recliner, coffee fridge and microwave, and it's right on Route 66 with lots of sightseeing to do :)
We had a fantastic experience here!! Great price and amazing customer service! We arrived after a long drive at 6am to get a few hours of sleep. They told us to get as much rest as needed and not to worry about checking our right on time since we arrived so late which was awesome. We also went to eat the complimentary breakfast a little after their ending time and they gladly brought what we liked back out so we could have a meal before checking out. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and room was clean! We’ll be staying here again next time we drive through!
Royal Holiday Motel is one of those old classic Route 66 motels. For the price, it’s a good stay. The bed was comfortable - we both slept well. The owners were friendly and helpful. As others have said in their reviews, the rooms are quite dated and in need of upgrades. At least it didn’t have that stale smokey motel room smell you would usually get in a similar place. Decent stay.
We were looking for a clean but inexpensive motel and this came up on the internet at a price we could afford. We've been tenting but the nights were dropping to the teens and the election results were coming in, so we spent some money to stay warm, do laundry, etc. We asked for a non-smoking room and got it. The things other commenters have said are true - friendly staff, clean, large room, comfy bed, and old as I indicated in the title - but we stayed a couple of days more because we needed to catch up on things internet-wise and they must have high speed connections, because it is the best wifi we have had in two months of travel. As for the shower, it was almost too hot and a bit more powerful than we are used to - we have low-flow heads at home. It's true that the plumbing is antiquated, the coffee thin - Folgers coffee??-, and continental breakfasts are basic, but the price is also antiquated compared to the other motels around. These folks deserve your commerce. BTW, there is a laundry around the corner that is $1/ double load, and 2 quarters will dry all your clothes!! There's also a gas station by the laundry that is 15-20 cents cheaper than the average, and a Lowe's Shop & Save as well. All within a minute's drive. All in all, this was a real bargain if you are looking for a reasonably price motel that leaves you clean and well rested. And it's on historic Rt 66.
We loved this place! The family that owns and runs it are so nice and extremely hospitable. The room we stayed in was very clean and spacious, and the owners go out of their way to help with anything you need. We will definitely stay there again.
This hotel is a place to rest your head.it is clean and the beds are comfortable. It is a very non-descript motel that could use some upgrade. However, what it lacked in character or charm, was made up for by Owners who are exceptionally friendly and helpful.
