The location is great. Definitely worth waking up early to walk around the hutongs nearby before dawn—highlight of our trip. The building is older and is due for an update, but is very clean and warm. I believe our room was upgraded from a double to a double deluxe room, which was very spacious.

After visiting Conrad Beijing I’ve to say that Conrad Shanghai fares behind in both service and environment. Beijing’s Conrad had a much better room, better service and grand environment. The food at level 1 burger + sandwich was really good though. Shanghai rooms were also much more expensive I ...

The pool was closed so we called ahead to discuss cancelling. Every time we called, we were told to call back at another time. We tried four times and never got the one employee who could assist us. Frustrating process.

There are many international airports servicing flights to China. China has roughly 500 airports with a sizable portion being used for international flights. The award winning Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), situated 17 miles from the city centre, is the largest and busiest and is rated one of the best airports in the world. Total passenger traffic comes close to 80 million people a year. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) wrestle for second place for flights to China, while the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) are also heavily used. Transportation from the airport is available with car, coach, or bus being the most common forms to and from flights to China
China Weather
China is vast and there is extreme climate variation in different locations ranging from desert to grasslands to tropical. Temperature also varies greatly, from 40-below in the north to 104 degrees in the south. Traveling on flights to China is good all year round but research on the weather is essential and if travel is to be involved then preparation for changing weather from location to location is advised. Visit Harbin in winter for its ice festival and ski slopes and Beijing and Shanghai in summer. May, September, and October are peak season but prices drop in other months so it is possible to get a good deal on low cost flights to China.
Getting Around China
China has a highly efficient transport system which means there are various transportation methods available. If you plan to travel across the length of China, then the sheer size may make air travel the only viable option. With domestic airports scattered everywhere, air travel is a piece of cake. Otherwise, trains are the most common option, although they do tend to get crowded. Alternatives include buses and trams, the underground in certain cities, boats, and for the adventurous: bicycles. In general, the transportation system is reliable, frequent, comfortable and efficient, making travel in domestic China relatively easy and enjoyable.
China Attractions
With its imperial history and modern development, China is host to a bevy of attractions to suit every taste. China is one of the most culturally vibrant places on earth with amazing art, festivals, and people.
- The Great Wall of China: seen from space and famous throughout the world
- The Forbidden City: once home to the emperors of China
- Silk Road: retrace the steps of some of the world’s greatest explorers such as Marco Polo.
- Terracotta Warriors: the museum of the Terracotta Army is home to life-like stone soldiers and their generals seemingly ready for battle.
- Hangzhou: “Paradise on Earth”, home to marvels, temples, and gardens
