Prairie Meadows Casino, Racetrack & Hotel

Very clean, gracious staff, very helpful. The event space is perfect for small and large conferences. Altoona is not far from downtown Des Moines, but there is enough to do at Prairie Meadows (casino, horse racing) that you won’t need to go to downtown Des Moines. The only reason I’m not giving a 5 Star is because the pillows could be a little better. Otherwise a great hotel!!

Nice, clean room, friendly staff, easy check in/out. The only complaint I have is that the sheets, in my opinion, felt very "rough", scratchy-like, so I didn't get a good nights sleep but will definitely give them another shot in the future. Maybe it was just a fluke this time.

Stayed here for a business event. Very nice clean modern hotel. Front desk staff friendly an helpful. Rooms are very clean, large and spacious. Modern décor and furniture. Food in banquet room was good, desserts were wonderful.

We stayed at Prairie Meadows after spending the day at Adventureland for Oktoberfest. Rooms are so clean and beds are super comfy. This just made our weekend perfect! Throwing in a breakfast at the Triple Crown is a nice way to thank your guests. We really enjoyed our stay.

Hotel was very accessible to any need. They accommodated us by putting classmates on same floor. Food in Cafe was good and affordable. Security to rooms was comforting. All the staff was friendly and welcoming. Fun place to stay with racetrack and gambling available. Fitness room and pool area were very clean and not busy. Would stay there again

Prairie meadows seems to have a good reputation with the locals. When you mention you are staying there and you have a suite, a common response is, Nice! Feeling good about our accommodations, we were in town for our son's wedding, which was a weekend long affair.. The first night we decided to play some cards. We found a Blackjack table and got ready for some fun... The relief dealer, Chelsea, was great-- Funny, friendly and kept the game going. ( Everything you expect from a Blackjack dealer.. 👍) Jeff, who was the primary dealer at that table came back from break.. Really nice professional, but you got the sense, he was a new dealer... Every dealer needs to call the pit boss over for approval of transactions, etc... Mike, would come over deal with the situation at hand, ( no pun intended) then proceed to criticize our dealer on how his chips weren't stacked correctly--His method of positive reinforcement was to say " No! No! rather uncomfortably loud, when Jeff would accidentally reach for a stack Mike didn't want him too, or awkwardly, scold Jeff for not making change the way Mike wanted him too.. Training is an important part of every new employee's development in a new career path, however the overly critical, abusive methods this pit boss uses are embarrassing and awkward for your employee as well as your patrons. We were up and.... We decided to color up, we didn't want to witness any more verbal abuse from Mike towards his employees..

The first thing I noticed about this hotel was how long the hallways were. I don't know that I've seen hallways that long before with rooms on both sides. Of course, it sits above a large casino with a horse race track in front of it. Our room was great except our view was of another building wall on second floor. It was far enough away (maybe 10 feet or more) that I could still see the sky; I have no complaints. There was no free breakfast and it was a bit above I usually pay. So if you are looking for a luxury experience in Iowa or used to paying more in a higher market, I highly recommend this for the convenience to the casino and the comfortable accommodations.

Beautiful hotel and casino which had two restaurants one upstairs, one downdtsirs. If you like gaming the slots were good I did win a little. This place is nicely done and clean. The establishment is in Altoona Iowa.

I have hosted 2 meetings at the conference center this summer. During both events we were pleased with the accommodations and cleanliness. The food was actually good and we received many comments on the quality of food. Typically the quality of food for a conference of over 100 people is poor. Prairie meadows has done a good job and we will likely continue to host conferences with them. The hotel rooms were clean and in good shape.

We were driving home from Arkansas and decided to get to Iowa and go to the track and stay at the hotel. It's very nice and absolutely spotless! Rooms are nice had a wonderful breakfast the next day. The track was fun as was the casino. Large non smoking area in casino and cannot smoke outside at track only in casino smoking areas ? Odd . Would definitely recommend
