We booked a room so that we could be in Dayton earlier than if we drove down on Saturday morning. The hotel was easy to get to, the night clerk was cheery and pleasant, and the hot tub was very comfortable. Our room was also comfortable.
I was first placed in a room and while unpacking for my business stay I noticed the refrigerator had been turned off as well as the freezer. This freezer goo had melted and was slime all inside the freezer. Due to it being shut off liquid had leaked out of it and the wooden furniture in which it was located was completely saturated with liquid. The real issue with this was I brought food for my nursing job the next day and had to keep my perishables and frozen food cold- because it was off the clerk even stated it wouldn't be usable until they turned it on and 48 hours later. This was strike one then I went over to the window because it was getting dark and a light was coming in my window from the parking lot. I moved the curtain and the entire blind and rod came flying from the ceiling falling on top of me. This was only secured with one screw. Due to these issues I went to the front desk and did request a change of rooms due to the fact that I needed a fridge and freezer as well as a curtain. I had hoped I would be getting an upgrade from the disaster of my first room. Not by a long shot. Let's set the stage- I'm a female traveling alone on business. The front desk associate seemed as if I was an inconvenience on her to be moving my room. I moved all of my stuff from the first room to the second and realized how uncomfortable I was with the new room. It was a adjoining room - and the clerk stated I had to have the door unlocked for someone else to enter so I was uncomfortable with it but realized I didn't want to be the picky hotel guest so I stuck with it. It was now time for bed I got up to use the rest room and went to lock the main door before going to sleep. The deadbolt on my door was completely broken off just hanging on the door. It was the middle of the night I had my pajamas on contacts out, ready for bed and the clerk had put me in a room without a deadbolt. I proceeded to push every piece of furniture in front of my door to feel safe while sleeping. I'm sure you have heard horror stories of people having duplicate keys at a hotel. I'm sure you could put yourself in my shoes on how I couldn't sleep through the night and I was terrified to ask for another room who knows what I would get next!!!! And I was ready for bed what an inconvenience. The next morning I awoke took a shower there was mold all over the shower handle it wasn't soap scum it was black and white mold. I only stay at choice hotels due to my privledges account and I have always been satisfied. This hotel was a complete disappointment and makes me reconsider staying with choice hotels in the future. My safety and health as a guest come first I shouldn't have to ask for that- it should already be the priority of the hotel. I want to feel safe and secure when staying at a hotel, choosing a place that allows you to sleep as if you are at your own home is a huge priority for me. Just because it is a choice hotel doesn't mean it will be kept to the proper standards. I will not stay at this hotel again and am thankful I was safe.
Just don't waste your time. There are plenty of other perfectly fine hotels in Dayton to bother with this one as long as it in under the current (August 2017) GM, Tina Gill I believe was her name. The staff is poorly trained and both the GM and staff treat all guest as if they are...for lack of a better way to put it...trash. The hotel evidently has issues in the past and was a locale that seedy locals hung out. It has now been remodeled and at first glance it looks lovely!!! That's where the positive starts. Extremely high $200 deposit for a 3 night stay. BROKEN/Unlocked Backdoor that's open 24/7 to the public. A front desk that's never manned. The key machine was broken while we were there so you could have 1 key and if that messed up they had to let you in and out of your room. Cleaning was -just ok- but the sheets were too small for the old worn out mattresses. The GM is rude and unprofessional and it shows in her staff. Don't. Waste. Your. Money. Choice Hotels customer relations will listen but they can't do anything and don't really care because they are individually owned. Disappointed all around. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!
We arrived to find the hotel door security system had malfunctioned and key cards were not working. The staff already had plans in motion to escort guests to their rooms and relock the doors after the guests depart the rooms on errands or to check out. One lady was running laps to take care of the guests as rooms were being checked in, checked out or unattended. She was committed to take care of everyone. Great attitude from all the staff. Good breakfast. Parking is well lit. The room was clean, and well stocked. Good for a family or business traveler on a thinner budget. Lots of restaurants on Miller road with plenty of delicious choices.
On our stay the master key card reader went out so the clerk had to let everyone in their rooms - both coming and going. The evening clerk there when we checked in was very nice and quite up for the challenge the evening hours would bring when every one was busy out at dinner and such - she was very good. The room was comfortable - some updates - it was clean - The location is on restaurant alley and local to gas stations, Sam's Club - Walmart - Goodwill and many other smaller stops - right off the interstate very convenient. This is a $50 hotel / convenience plays a factor - but 2 star - to upgrade go to the Hampton or Marriott -
My sons baseball team needed a night by night hotel due to a crazy tournament schedule. They were accommodating as far as that went. When we first pulled in you could see the place needed some TLC. It looks old and run down. As I said, you get what you pay for. First, there were no keys so you had to ask to be let in your room every time. What an inconvenience!!! The rooms were not sound proof so you could hear everything(again it's old). The rooms themselves were just OK. Beds seemed clean which is the most important. Staff was not very friendly. The manager, Tina, was very rude. Breakfast was til 9am. She literally took food out of a child's hand at 8:58 and said breakfast was over. Really?!! Let's just say this was my one and only time staying at a Comfort Inn.
Comfort Inns are usually quite good. It can as quite a surprise then when we walked into this motel and immediately encountered a very musty smell. The receptionist asked if we had a reservation and then said,"Well, if I have anything it won't be on first floor." We asked if there was an elevator and again a surprise-"No." Based on this "reception" we chose to go elsewhere.
Walking into the room we noticed the smoke alarm was tightly covered with a Walmart sack. Room had a strange/minty odor ...maybe to cover smoke smell? Safety latch on the door BROKEN IN TWO and screws coming out of the wall. Our room 117 faced the entrance of the busy motel next door noisy. Plastic cup left in the shower. Furnished shampoo bottle was half empty. Opened food left in the refrigerator. Both beds saggy in the middle. Fitted sheet too small and came of in the night. YUCK. Even though we had the TV volume turned up all the way, we had to sit on the foot end of the bed to hear it. We had a long drive, long day or would have left.
We normally stay in Comfort Inn / Quality Inns and expect about the same level of quality from one city to the next. We didn't think it was a huge gamble to stay at this one, which had a lower than average rate for the area, but I guess you get what you pay for. First, when we arrived, we were told the hotel was overbooked. The clerk did not seem overly concerned or apologetic about this, but she did find us an alternative room. We had booked a room with two queen beds, but the clerk offered us a room with a king bed and a pull-out sofa. That sofa was broken, so we had to be moved to another room. The air conditioning in the new room was not working well, but we were too tired to complain and were not hopeful there would be another option. That said, we slept well and had no further interruptions once we got settled in. It would have been nice to be offered a discount due to them providing us with a different room than what we paid for. The rooms themselves were just so-so, and there was a funky smell when we first went in. Breakfast options very limited. I have stayed in other Comfort Inns and usually have a great experience, so this was disappointing.
