Initial impression varied, confusion with available limited car parking meant that we had to pay £10 for less than 24 hours. Check in a bit slow although friendly and welcoming. Room spacious and appeared to be clean, although on closer inspection the windows were grimey inside and out, and the bathroom cleanliness, left room for much improvement. Noise from externally mounted extraction , not good.... and pigeons ( not their fault) led to uneasy nights sleep. Apparently undergone a fairly recent extensive refurbishment??. However further improvements can still be made .
I treated my mum to an early Mother's Day afternoon tea which we both really enjoyed! Did not expect so much but we did eat it all! A special thanks to Richard you made us feel welcome and kept coming over asking if we where happy with everything and he was very helpful Could not fault service at the hallmark! Keep up the good work!
My husband and I have just returned from a 3 night break at the hallmark, Carlisle. This was our 3rd visit to the hotel and as previous visits, we enjoyed our stay. However, the "but" above refers to our dismay, when on arrival we found our break would cost an extra £30 due to the introduction of a £10 per night parking charge. Due to this we changed our plans a bit.We know from our previous stays the food is good and it was our intention to eat in the hotel on at least one of our nights but with £30 pounds already added to our bill we opted to eat elsewhere. So, if you're thinking of staying here and you get a good deal on the price just remember to add on what is basically a £10 supplement per night for the privilege of using their car park. It's not only Carlisle, it's a crazy decision by Hallmark hotels in general and one I hope is soon reversed, especially as the nearby (and more modern) ibis hotel offers free parking for its guests, so it stuck in our throats, when checking out, to hand over this £30. We like visiting Carlisle as we can drive there in just over an hour and we intend going again later in summer and again in the run-up to Christmas but we will now be checking prices for other hotels against that of the hallmark (+£10 PER NIGHT!)
My adult son, wife and myself spent an enjoyable weekend here and enjoyed it all. I am a very experienced traveler and also very "fussy". The hotel is located right beside the railway station which is very handy. There is also a large "sports" hotel right next door in the center of the city. We were a little concerned in case noise would be an issue, but no problems at all despite no double gazing. Noise outside was minimal considering location etc. Staff were great right from the start at reception, through to restaurant and bar staff. We ate in the hotel and had quality food served by willing and friendly staff. Rooms were clean and comfortable with 1 room facing front of hotel (no noises) and 1 room facing rear of hotel. Bathrooms and beds all clean and no bothers. As I said, we are VERY fussy and without doubt this hotel passed our high standards no problem.
Decided at the last minute to book the Hallmark. The hotel needs decorating and brightening up. It is so dark inside. The lights in the room were abysmal. Impossible to apply makeup and the best mirror was hung behind the toilet. The bathroom was very clean but dated with a single glazed tatty window which was hidden by a blind. The bedlinen, towels etc were spotless and the bed comfortable. Breakfast reasonably priced and of a good standard. Maybe we were unlucky with our dark room but it put me off staying again.
Visited the halmark hotel on the 10/3/17 check in was fast a few easy even got treats (cookies and brownies) on check in great room nice and clean there was no soap or shampoo but the girl on reception soon brought some up for us large bed we both got lost in it was that big great snap menu from 10pm to 10am .breakfast is amazing we had ours in bed for £5 try charge but you get to pick whst you have and it tastes and looks amazing will definitely be staying with the halmark chain again thanks guys for a great stay Dan
Had an unexpected stay over in Carlisle due to train cancellations. Hallmark hotel next to station so seemed like a logical stay. The staff are friendly and the price was reasonable - but the place does need some TLC. Dated in terms of decor, most areas need some refresh. Bedroom was decent size but again def needs a refurb. Dated throughout. Bath pitted, coving peeling, windows dripping with moisture but managed a decent sleep Did the job - but might not be my first choice if I returned to Carlisle
You know I'd read a lot of reviews and had a preconception of the hotel. Two days into a 4 day stay and I'm happy to say it's a cracking hotel in a great location. What makes it cracking is the staff From the front desk.. to bar staff and in particular a lady manager who sorted out an issue for me in such a way to make sure I was happy. What was a small problem ended up as a positive experience due to her good management. It's a simple recipe If you're coming to Carlisle give it a try and enjoy
Arrived at hotel and was pleasantly surprised. Everything about our stay was good, our room was very comfortable, had everything we required, bed was very comfy, although quite high as im only 4" 10' lol but managed to get up to it. Had an evening meal which was lovely. The breakfasts were 1st class . Staff were so pleasant. We hope to return to this hotel.
Booked 2 doubles on Saturday night, was a great trip. The bar and reception staff couldn't have been friendlier. Welcoming and friendly, and the hotel is in a superb location. Would definitely reccommend.
