Recently attended the Hallmarks Christmas party event, could not fault anything at all. Food was amazing, the drinks were literally unlimited and the staff couldn’t of been better. The DJ kept everyone entertained and the atmosphere was just so Christmassy! Would highly recommend and will defiantly return next year!!
I had urgent business up in Carlisle and i booked this hotel purely because it was right next door to the railway station. I did not bother with the usual hassle of using comparison websites and rang the hotel direct the same day. I was greeted by a very polite lady who was only too pleased to help me out. All i wanted was a single room as i was a 'Billy-no-mates' for the evening and i was offered a, what turned out to be, a very pleasant double room for under £60! This sent my alarm bells ringing as i could not believe the price, with breakfast to boot! I need not have worried because the Hotel was a nice surprise after a rather lengthy seven hours on various delayed trains to get there. The reception was unmanned when i arrived and i had to wait for quite a while for the desk clerk to come from the back room, a bell would have been nice to get his attention, i was given the keycard to my room and was told it was on the third floor, quite a hike after waiting to get the lift for absolutely ages and giving up. The room was a little dated with some furniture straight out of Steptoe and Son's yard but to be honest i just wanted a warm room, a shower and a bed so as long as the room looked clean i was happy. The bed was comfy and the room a little too warm but a window open helped. My only complaint about the room was the tiny shower room. I was trying to shave and i constantly burnt my bum on the towel rail, it was that small. The toilet seat was also a danger to menfolk as it shifted quite abruptly when sat on and could have caused my tenor to shift rapidly to a high falsetto if it wasn't for my ninja reflexes. Apart from a loose shower head everything else was perfect, In fact i had the best nights sleep ever. The tea and coffee facilities were good too, actual mugs rather than the usual egg cups hotels want you to drink out of. The breakfast in the morning was adequate, my only gripe being the slightly overcooked sausages but it tasted good and there was plenty of it. All in all, for the price it was a bargain. Great location, clean and tidy and helpful and friendly staff. I would stay again.
We have held a training course here this week and have to say that we have been excellently looked after by all the staff and have to say that the lovely Lisa and Julie have gone above and beyond to make us all feel welcomed, And to the GM, Jeff, Your staff are a credit to you.
Nice small cozy room bed was fantastic,Shower was great and breakfast was better. location wise was bang in the centre of Carlisle and literally next door to the train station excellent hotel with friendly staff will return.
The staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough to help. Room was huge, lovely comfy bed. Bar area open with reasonable priced drinks. The staff made it for me, they were excellent. I will definitely be back.
We attended a charity function at the hotel and stayed the night. Having read the Tripadvisor reviews I asked in advance for a quiet room. We arrived too early to book in but the friendly receptionist let us leave our bags and we had some of the very good free chocolate cookies. We had a room which was quiet overlooking the station. It was hot and a bit tired in need of refurbishment but this is an old hotel and the work is in progress but is taking a lot of time. The function went off very well. The staff were very friendly, the food was tradtional but served piping hot and was very tasty. The following morning we had a very good breakfast and left feeling that the hotel and its staff had pulled out all the stops for the charity to make the night a memorable one. I would advise anyone staying here to contact the hotel in advance and ask for a quiet room on a high floor, the ones over the railway station seem to be the best. The trains stop running by midnight and start at about 6 a.m. Also the reception does offer ear plugs!!
Booked into this Hotel, through a wowcher deal ,and felt we were treated like second class citizens..They put us in room 202 right across the lane from a nightclub ,that played music that vibrated through the room till 4a.m..complained during the night to reception ....and was informed all they could do was give us earplugs.!!!! They couldn't move us as the hotel was fully booked.. poor excuse I thought....Evening meal ,beforehand was o.k and the breakfast was average....no plates for the cereals and they ran out of bread for the toaster.!!!....What annoyed me most ,was the could not care less attitude of the receptionist on checking out.....thanks Hallmark for ruining our Ruby wedding Anniversary.!!!!
I understood that this was an older hotel and I really liked the location next to the rail station. But- first single room offered changed (no heat ). 215 Second room OK until I tried the shower. Only scolding hot water. I am not a complainer so politely asked for the exchanger to be adjusted. On Monday. —-it’s on the list. Tuesday it’s on the list apologies. Wednesday I’m so sorry Thursday Friday Reception rang maintenance “it’s fixed “Saturday. Not fixed Sunday not fixed. So no shower for a week used sink. Not acceptable. So if you are drying here check the plumbing thoroughly. Should have asked for a change. But honestly believed it would be fixed. Hotel suffers from staffing shortages. Seemed to be continually training students. And they do need training. Management need to focus on training and retaining staff. Food rushed and average. However if it hadn’t been for the shower and lack of action I would have been happy. Seem to do well with functions but at the expense of house guests. I would stay again but I would have to try all the rooms to see if everything is functioning. Enjoying my first shower for a week.
Fantastic hotel. I higly reccomend this place. From reception staff to bar staff and restaurant staff they are all very welcoming and friendly... We ate In the restaurant for dinner the food was amazing and very well presented 3 course timings between courses were perfect also... the room we stayed in first was in september with 2 children was very spacious and comfortable the room we stayed in november was equally spacious with everything we needed the bed was super comfortable and if it wasnt for the breakfast we could have lay in for hours. Checkout at 11am later than most hotels meant we didn't have to rush around too much after getting up. Breakfast was buffet style with a wide variety from.cereal and fruit to toast and fully cooked breafast.. I really can't fault this place at all stayed more than once now and will definitely be staying over again...Thank you to all staff have a brilliant Christmas see you in the new year!!
Tired Hotel attempting a refurb. I wouldn’t stay for leisure with my family. Room was clean but the ensuite was from the 60’s. Breakfast was poor, runny scrambled eggs, congealed beans and burnt fried eggs. On checkout I discovered I’d been charged £20 for using the car park. Nothing was said about a charge on arrival. I’d give a miss next time I’m in Carlisle.
