Having been stranded in Cologne due to heavy snow back in the UK, our airline sent us to this hotel for one night, free of charge. We were thrilled when we realised that it was a business hotel which would certainly be a cut above the budget place we'd been staying in the city! When we arrived, the reception area was fantastic and the staff very helpful and friendly. At first we were told that our rooms would not be ready until 2pm (it was currently about 11am) but just as we had sat down in the lobby to make some calls home, we were called back to the desk and given our keys. The spacious rooms were amazing, beautifully decorated with all mod cons. The bed was massive and so comfy, the bathroom was gleaming and had complimentary toiletries etc, the shower was powerful, there was loads of wardrobe space, the TV worked without a hitch, there was a free bottle of water on the desk, and the tea/coffee facilities were housed in a glass cabinet. Even the corridors were lovely. My only complaint here would be that the rooms and corridors were way too hot, but luckily the room had big windows that could be opened. The hotel is conveniently located by a train stop, so we were able to brave the snow and head into the city for our 'extra' day. We came back to the hotel in the early evening to have drinks and dinner before our very early flight the next morning. We had taken the precaution of booking a table in the restaurant as it didn't look very big, so we went to the fabulous bar area for a pre-drink, only to find no staff on hand. We sat down and looked at the cocktail menu for 10 mins or so, and then a member of staff came along and told us and the other occupants that the bar was closing as there weren't enough staff to operate it, due to the influx of stranded guests! We thought this was a bit much really - it's an absolutely huge hotel that must be busy most of the time with business travellers, and they had obviously agreed to take on stranded air passengers so you'd think they would have something in place for this eventuality. Anyway, we moved to the restaurant, which was very busy, and finally got the attention of a waiter who showed us to a table. We looked at a menu, and handed over the vouchers that the airline had given us for dinner - only to be told that they were not valid for use at the hotel. This was certainly not the hotel's fault, but it did mean that we then had to order the cheapest dishes on the rather expensive menu as we had to pay for it ourselves! Luckily they were all very tasty. Because of the early start, we didn't get to sample breakfast, which I'm sure would have been lovely.
Dorint Hotel An der Messe Köln is located directly opposite Cologne Trade Fair, and the old town is only 7 minutes away by underground train. Koelnmesse Underground Station is directly in front of the Hotel. This is a very modern comfortable hotel. The rooms are a good size, very clean, with floor-to-ceiling windows, cozy décor in creamy colours. wood veneer, and comfortable beds. The rooms are air-conditioned (very quiet), with deposit boxes, mini bar, coffee/tea drinks facilities and free WiFi in the rooms. This was a business so I did not used the pool and spa section, which includes a sauna, a steam room and a salt grotto. There are reduced admissions for the spa. There are 2 bars - the Bierstube Düx for local Kölsch beer, or the Accanto Bar enjoy international drinks. Breakfast was copious served in a restaurant that included both a conservatory and terrace. Perhaps the hotel lacks in atmosphere but the surrounding Deutz region is a great choice for those interested in colourful restaurants and bars – and don’t forget the Cologne Trade Fair!
We were given a room here free of charge by our airline after our flight was cancelled. The room is spacious with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Pillows were the only issue we had as they were very soft and flat. The restaurant is average - we were given a menu with 3 limited options. Breakfast was excellent. There was a choice of hot and colds items including fruit, continental optons, bread, cereals, pastry, eggs, bacon, etc. The hotel is about 10/15 mins walk to the centre. We probably wouldn’t stay here again due to rooms being outdated and slightly further out the centre than we would like to be.
Firstly it’s convenient - minutes walk from köln Messe deutz train station which is only 12 minutes from the airport. It’s walkable to the city centre and there is a tram stop outside. We arrived at 12pm and were allowed access to our room to questions asked and no charge - the receptionist spoke impeccable English and was friendly and helpful. Breakfast is lovely - everything you could want and good quality food. I ate in the bar area too and the food was very good and the wine lovely. The gym is excellent and of a high standard and there are plenty of weights. The WiFi is strong and the shower too- the bed was comfy and the room nice. The spa is nice too - here is where it drops a point for me - I’m a UK male and regular gym goer so nudity for me in front of men is no problem whatsoever - the sauna and steam area is mixed sex and nudity is the norm which made me feel uncomfortable- perhaps you wouldn’t be but yup I thought it a bit much ;) sorry! That said the spa is impeccably clean and lovely. And I suspect the reason why it’s very quiet is the above!!! All in all I would def re stay and had a lovely 3 day visit to cologne .
Had a great weekend in Cologne. This hotel is in a great location. Tram stop right outside, 5 minutes from main line rail. Friendly staff , clean hotel comfy beds. My only grumble was the cooked breakfast, great choice but everything was lukewarm or cold . Would definitely stay again though as that was the only negative.
This hotel is positively a business hotel, but a really good one. I found the room perfect, the breakfast a standard+ (classic, but with a few extras) and the service professional. There is a really good restaurant on-site, although it is not very service-minded. Located next to the convention center, but still in close proximity to the city center.
I just stayed one week together with my colleague as we were doing the FSB Fair - the rooms were nice and clean although we had to pay extra for using the fitness room. The breakfast buffet is excellent and the restaurant at the hotel is absolutely ok. I will for sure rebook the Dorint hotel next time I will be in Cologne.
Two night stay for FSB trade show hotel is Over price ,rude bar staff, fridge empty ,spa out of order breakfast overpriced like room only thing going for it good location for trade shows hotel was fully booked and it appears they can’t cope with that
Stayed there during Interzum for two nights. Before I had to move to another place. Clean, enough space, comfortable. typical german standard. Fair prices, good and friendly service. Business hotel and for sure very comfortable if you have to visit the fair. For Cologne definitly a good choice.
Trade shows are hard work ... and the smartest thing you can do is: (1) Book a great hotel, (2) Eat sensibly, and (3) Get lots of high-quality sleep. The Dorint here is right at the door of the Cologne Convention Facility. Impeccably run, this hotel has incredibly clean rooms in German style (duvets). Room temperature controls surprisingly accurate, windows open for fresh air. Desk with three (3) accessible plugs and an opaque glass desk ... modern and useful. The Trade Show business has made this hotel idiotically expensive, but every day I started my trade show refreshed and able to work hard thanks to the Dorint.
