The location is good for the Trade Fair, and even better for the bars and restaurants where we ended up afterwards.Superior room is large with a lounge to allow meetings with business guests.Excellent breakfast but very busy during shows and difficult to get breakfast space. Helpful staff.
The customer service in this hotel for an average room price of Euro $250 per night is simply terrible. The receptionist that we spoke to needs to go for re-training in the way she handles customers. I find them simply unwelcoming and totally unhelpful. I asked for a wine opener when I was at the counter and she asked me to go get it from her colleague at the pub, when I went there, the bar tender said they do not have one they could loan. I went back to her and told her that it was not available, she told us she can’t do anything. There was simply no attempt to offer any assistance. On top of that I asked for a late check out and she said it was only available for $10.00 an hours which I would most happily pay. However, it was the way that she puts across that I feel extremely unhappy, maybe, it is because I am Asian. But again, I am not paying a lower rate being Asian so I do not feel the treatment is justifiable. Other than that, the amenities in the room is at best basic! A bottle of water is provided FOC for the first day only and after that it is charged at Euro $6.50 thereafter. Really? After we pay Euro $250.00 per room. The location of the hotel is the only thing I would give credit for. Everything else did not meet expectations for the price I paid. I had nothing short of a bad experience.
Stayed at this particular Dorint Hotel- not ever knowing that the chain existed. It is very close to the city sights and close the the arena- if you happen to be attending a concert. Its amazing what quality you can get here for a very decent rate per night. The rooms are big and very modern. The breakfast has everything you can imagine. I suggest the made to order omelette- it will be the best you've had yet-so good! The bar is very relaxed and the evening food is delicious. The big win for me was the Spa. There is a gym, sauna, steam room, relax area in this hotel that is 5 star. All spotless and well run. The staff were so polite and courteous. I had no issues at all over a 3 night stay.. only problem was... i wish i could have stayed for a month!!! if you want a beautiful hotel to make your stay in Cologne a wonderful experience- this is it. Enjoy!
Had been to the hotel for 6 hours literally as I was stranded in Cologne due cancellation of flight ("beast from east" had struck UK with heavy snow). Would have loved to stay longer but airline sent us to this hotel for few hours as we were booked on an early flight next day. Overall comfortable rooms. Restaurant had no vegetarian options. And I was very disappointed with the staff at the Bar. I wanted a simple Hennessy with ginger ale as I had a long & tiring day and was instead served an expensive Hennessy.. almost 4 times the price. Anyways after 5 hour sleep I was back at the airport.
These people are used to cater to high standard international clientele. While the main focus is on Cologne trade fair business, they offer comfort (check out the full-service spa), local cuisine (Deux) and amazing breakfast buffet. Many tasty eateries in close proximity, close to public transport, walking distance to the Rhine river promenade. You can even walk across a nearby bridge to get to the cathedral.
I've been at the Hotel for one night during the furniture fair.. so fully booked ! Room available at 12, perfect! Room very clean ! But the employee at the reception veryyyy young nice but not so expert and the night at the restaurant/bar a big mess and too less personnel for that quantity of people.
Having been stranded in Cologne due to heavy snow back in the UK, our airline sent us to this hotel for one night, free of charge. We were thrilled when we realised that it was a business hotel which would certainly be a cut above the budget place we'd been staying in the city! When we arrived, the reception area was fantastic and the staff very helpful and friendly. At first we were told that our rooms would not be ready until 2pm (it was currently about 11am) but just as we had sat down in the lobby to make some calls home, we were called back to the desk and given our keys. The spacious rooms were amazing, beautifully decorated with all mod cons. The bed was massive and so comfy, the bathroom was gleaming and had complimentary toiletries etc, the shower was powerful, there was loads of wardrobe space, the TV worked without a hitch, there was a free bottle of water on the desk, and the tea/coffee facilities were housed in a glass cabinet. Even the corridors were lovely. My only complaint here would be that the rooms and corridors were way too hot, but luckily the room had big windows that could be opened. The hotel is conveniently located by a train stop, so we were able to brave the snow and head into the city for our 'extra' day. We came back to the hotel in the early evening to have drinks and dinner before our very early flight the next morning. We had taken the precaution of booking a table in the restaurant as it didn't look very big, so we went to the fabulous bar area for a pre-drink, only to find no staff on hand. We sat down and looked at the cocktail menu for 10 mins or so, and then a member of staff came along and told us and the other occupants that the bar was closing as there weren't enough staff to operate it, due to the influx of stranded guests! We thought this was a bit much really - it's an absolutely huge hotel that must be busy most of the time with business travellers, and they had obviously agreed to take on stranded air passengers so you'd think they would have something in place for this eventuality. Anyway, we moved to the restaurant, which was very busy, and finally got the attention of a waiter who showed us to a table. We looked at a menu, and handed over the vouchers that the airline had given us for dinner - only to be told that they were not valid for use at the hotel. This was certainly not the hotel's fault, but it did mean that we then had to order the cheapest dishes on the rather expensive menu as we had to pay for it ourselves! Luckily they were all very tasty. Because of the early start, we didn't get to sample breakfast, which I'm sure would have been lovely.
Dorint Hotel An der Messe Köln is located directly opposite Cologne Trade Fair, and the old town is only 7 minutes away by underground train. Koelnmesse Underground Station is directly in front of the Hotel. This is a very modern comfortable hotel. The rooms are a good size, very clean, with floor-to-ceiling windows, cozy décor in creamy colours. wood veneer, and comfortable beds. The rooms are air-conditioned (very quiet), with deposit boxes, mini bar, coffee/tea drinks facilities and free WiFi in the rooms. This was a business so I did not used the pool and spa section, which includes a sauna, a steam room and a salt grotto. There are reduced admissions for the spa. There are 2 bars - the Bierstube Düx for local Kölsch beer, or the Accanto Bar enjoy international drinks. Breakfast was copious served in a restaurant that included both a conservatory and terrace. Perhaps the hotel lacks in atmosphere but the surrounding Deutz region is a great choice for those interested in colourful restaurants and bars – and don’t forget the Cologne Trade Fair!
We were given a room here free of charge by our airline after our flight was cancelled. The room is spacious with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Pillows were the only issue we had as they were very soft and flat. The restaurant is average - we were given a menu with 3 limited options. Breakfast was excellent. There was a choice of hot and colds items including fruit, continental optons, bread, cereals, pastry, eggs, bacon, etc. The hotel is about 10/15 mins walk to the centre. We probably wouldn’t stay here again due to rooms being outdated and slightly further out the centre than we would like to be.
Firstly it’s convenient - minutes walk from köln Messe deutz train station which is only 12 minutes from the airport. It’s walkable to the city centre and there is a tram stop outside. We arrived at 12pm and were allowed access to our room to questions asked and no charge - the receptionist spoke impeccable English and was friendly and helpful. Breakfast is lovely - everything you could want and good quality food. I ate in the bar area too and the food was very good and the wine lovely. The gym is excellent and of a high standard and there are plenty of weights. The WiFi is strong and the shower too- the bed was comfy and the room nice. The spa is nice too - here is where it drops a point for me - I’m a UK male and regular gym goer so nudity for me in front of men is no problem whatsoever - the sauna and steam area is mixed sex and nudity is the norm which made me feel uncomfortable- perhaps you wouldn’t be but yup I thought it a bit much ;) sorry! That said the spa is impeccably clean and lovely. And I suspect the reason why it’s very quiet is the above!!! All in all I would def re stay and had a lovely 3 day visit to cologne .
