Cologne Marriott Hotel5.0 out of 5.0

Stayed for 2 nights, really decorative inside with large rooms that are clean with huge beds! Friendly staff on reception when checking in and out and really close to the Cathedral and Train Station. Would definitely stay here again if I returned to cologne.
Nothing that negative to say just that the hotel is a little odd at times. Great location 1 min from the station and taxis are outside. Staff - lovely, helpful, friendly. Bar - nice, fairly contemporary, staff once again great. Restaurant (breakfast) nice, exactly what you would expect, staff again nice. Rooms, nice and inline with Marriott hotels, blinds were broken and didn’t supply shampoo but 2 x conditioner? Also red carpet and yellow wallpaper in the corridor, just didn’t fit with the rest of the hotel, almost like the renovated everything but someone forgot to do that part. I’d stay again if in the city but stayed at better Marriotts/hotels overall for the money.
Nice modern hotel, in a quiet part of Cologne, about 250 metres from the main railway station and close to the river and cathedral . I arrived a little early at 1245 and was told my room was not ready. I was told I could go to the executive lounge, where someone would come up with my key when a room was ready. After 90 minutes waiting I went back down to reception to find my room was ready. I think they forgot about me! The room was nice and clean, with very comfortable king sized bed. And to be fair, the service from that point on was excellent. Staff were helpful and friendly in all areas. The executive lounge served a couple of hot dishes after 1730, along with cold items. Food in the hotel was lovely and staff in the Fou restaurant were especially good during the breakfast service. Was given some chocolates and a souvenir glass along with a local beer. Thought that was a nice touch. So after the initial check in problem, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend .
For someone who routinely travels and stay at Marriotts I was impressed with the facility and staff at this hotel. The rooms are impeccable and well designed. The room was comfortable and quiet. From now on all trips to Cologne will be spent at this Marriott.
I expected better in this hotel. this is not to say that it was awe-full, but it was below Marriott standards. Rooms were nice but cleanliness was not as it should be. I have reported some uninvited visitors to the receptionist who changed my room. I asked the receptionist for a 3 pin adapter which was given,, to find out later that 25 euros were deducted from my card as deposit for the adapter,,, the value in the market is about 4 Euros. And it was, STILL impossible to convince the receptionist that the amount is been deducted already ,, and it is not a deposit anymore. Now i have to run between the hotel and the my bank to make sure that the amount was not deducted from my account and to get it re-reimbursed. Breakfast was very good. I did not have other meals in the hotel as we were all the time out
Excellently located next to the central train station and the government offices I was visiting. Staff all speak excellent English and are super-friendly and efficient. Rooms are very well-equipped and tea/coffee making facilities are a must for me.
Stayed at this hotel in September during fair. I booked a normal room..arrived late at hotel and on entering the room i find out that hotel still offers smoking rooms! I lodge a complaint as I'm very allergic to cigarette smoke. Totally disregarded. Was told hotel was full.i asked for room to be at least sprayed. Nothing. Ended up with massive sinus attack that I'm still suffering from now. A hotel like this should not allow smoking in rooms. Period. From rooms smoke permeates everywhere. There are much better hotels in cologne. I visit cologne a few times a year but this was my first and last time here. Hotel caters for big groups. Individual visitors are totally disregarded. What photo shall i upload?? Of guests smoking during bfast? Several of those too!
We stayed here 3 nights as we were going to Phil Collins gig so made a little city break too. Cologne is a lovely city that we often enjoy especially in December for the Christmas markets. A lovely hotel, great location 5 minutes walk from main train station. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was fantasic . A nice big room with sofa and table which was lovely to sit down and plan our days while enjoying a coffee. We had access to the executive lounge which was very nice. We enjoyed breakfast and evening snacks and drinks which was nice to chill out before going to our room. Coffee machine in room. So lovely to see free gifts two small bottles of wine and two boxes of chocolates along with a card. Also a fridge in room which was very nice. A nice sized bathroom with bath. A bath robe and slippers in room.
The Cologne Marriott (Johannisstrasse) is a short walk from the main train station (exit the side opposite the Dom side). The hotel reception area is large and inviting, staff friendly and facilities excellent. The entrance has stairs but there is a ramp further along from the front entrance for those needing to wheel bags. The executive room floor has large, comfortable rooms with all facilities (although the bath, even with one small handrail) can be a challenge if you are not agile. The room was spotless, the bathroom well equipped and toiletries of high standard. The executive lounge isn't very lounge-y (no arm couches, coffee tables, etc.) but set up more like a small café with a long communal table in one area and a number of smaller tables (some with arm chairs). There are magazines and books, a computer (which was, unfortunately almost always being used by children while we were there!). We printed out our boarding passes in the lobby where they have a dedicated boarding pass computer and printer. The lounge serves a full breakfast with a good selection of hot and cold selections, in the afternoon there is coffee/tea and light refreshments (cakes, cookies, etc.) and in the evening drinks, then a range of buffet type items including some hot dishes, cheeses, fruits and sweets. You really won't need dinner if you try even a small taste of everything. Service was friendly and helpful both in the lounge and in the lobby at reception. It's close to everything (the Dom, shopping, the Rhine, etc.) and an excellent base for exploring. Recommended.
This is my 9th annual stay here while attending an annual conference in Cologne. Marriott is very conveniently located - it's a 5-minute walk to the train station as well as to the UNESCO-designated Cologne Cathedral. The hotel is well maintained, and has managed to stay fresh (it was built in 2005, so it's not that old in any case.) Staff are generally friendly, especially the bartenders at the lobby bar - Saman and Tobias are aces, and truly help give the Marriott a friendly vibe. However, the check-in experience this time left a lot to be desired. We arrived from Frankfurt (by train) at around noon, and were told that our rooms were not ready. That can't be faulted as they don't guarantee availability until 3PM the day of check-in. What did annoy us were two hiccups during the process.... First, we asked the front desk to give us a call when our rooms were ready. This never happened, and it took a proactive call later in the afternoon to confirm with them that we could get the keys to our room. Second - and much more egregious - was the attitude of the staff upon arrival at the front desk the second time around. It took forever before someone could help get our keys. What they really ought to do is have an express key retrieval process that is separate from the people that are checking in, as getting one's keys shouldn't take more than 30 seconds. After 15 minutes of waiting, I turned to a colleague (who was also waited) to complain about the wait time. One of the front desk staff overheard my complaint, turned to me and said "what, how long have you been waiting, an entire two minutes?" in a very sarcastic tone. I immediately summoned the manager, explained that we had a long flight from the U.S., were dying to get to our rooms (it was 5PM by then) to take a shower and rest up, only to be mocked by one of the hotel staff members. The manager was apologetic, but no service recovery was attempted on the part of the Marriott. During check-out, however, upon being asked how my stay was, I brought to her attention the issues encountered during check-in. She immediately went to the back room, and upon her return she waived our breakfast charges for the entirety of our stay. My past stays here have been reasonably pleasant, so I'll chalk up this year's experience as an outlier this time.
