This hotel is very centrally situated less than 5 mins walk from the Dom, station and river. Rooms are bland in decoration but very comfortable, and internal courtyard facing rooms are very quiet. Nice bar area but typically expensive prices Good gym and sauna area Very professional staff. Plenty of bars and restaurants around
Good sized, modern rooms. Location is convenient to train station, Museum Ludwig, the Dom (Cathedral), old town, etc. We did not try the restaurant. There is a connected indoor parking garage (for a fee) and additional parking garages across the street. Good value and a pleasant stay.
I just recently went back to Cologne, and recalled this somewhat terrible experience I had at the Marriott's New Years Breakfast (which was like 30 euros, btw). It was new years day and my business partner and I were enjoying our 30 euro new years eve breakfast. There were tons of people, as there will be since in Cologne nothing is open on holidays. DID YOU KNOW that fruit flies breed in soy sauce? Living in Asia, I would have figured that we would have seen this multiple times over. Nope! Fruit flies, do in fact, breed in soy sauce as we found at this Marriott. Short of finding a finger, fingernail, or dead rat in your food, this would be the nearing the peak of disgustingness for probably anybody eating out. I also believe it would be completely unforeseen. The way that the staff handled it was like this: Denial More Denial Then they claimed these were sugar clumps (in soy sauce, with zero sugar...) This was outrageous and led me to pour out about 50 dead fruit flies from the soy sauce bottle in front of them and other horrified guests - showing them VERY CLEARLY (as you can see in my pic) wings of dead fruit flies. They rectified the situation by... giving more soy sauce... poor choice because likely anybody just reading this is horrified just thinking about our plight and is probably reconsidering their next meal. Thanks Marriott for giving us new soy sauce, we werent too hungry after that. We even got to pay full price for this meal, too! Hotel - nice Location - great Restaurant/Buffet - don't do it
I had a comfortable stay at the Cologne Marriott while I was in town for a business meeting. They had a room available for me when I arrived early in the morning which I really appreciated. The location is great as others have noted. It's a five minute walk to the cathedral and train station- you leave the hotel and are in the midst of the city. For runners there's a path along the river very close to the hotel. The room was comfortable, reasonably sized although without a view. The Wifi worked great. I loved the breakfast at the hotel- it had a great spread. It's a nice option for a business or family trip.
I flew from the ATL to Dussledorf and then had to take a train to Cologne which may for a very long journey. When I arrived in Cologne, I realized that the hotel was only a 5-7 minute walk from the train station. When I arrived at the hotel, the wonderful receptionist told me my room was not ready. However, they would store my luggage and they gave me a key to the concierge lounge. I was in the lounge less than thirty minutes and a gentlemen gave me a key to my room and my luggage was also in my room. Everyone was overly nice and the service was fantastic. My room was very comfortable. The lounge can get crowded. However, they had enough food during breakfast and dinner that I made a meal out of what I though was going to be light refreshments. The gym/ sauna area was also nice. I give the property very high marks and if I come back to Cologne, I will make sure I book with this Marriott again.
Great hotel close to train station in a clean and safe area. Free wifi, gym, sauna are available. Rooms are immaculate and well stocked and appointed for a relaxing stay. Staff super friendly. Great choice if staying in Cologne.
we had a superior room with twin beds. A great room with beds as larges as normal double beds...Everything was great and the breakfast also, except the coffee. had to order a cappuccino to get a real coffee with coffee taste. But this was the second time at the hotel, and its was by far a much better experience. So we´ll be back when in Cologne
Lovely spacious room, very comfortable bed, convenient underground parking. The location is excellent, as the cathedral and art museums are within easy walking distance. We had a very good meal at the hotel restaurant FOU.
4 stars mainly for the unbeatable location and adequate executive lounge food selection. Best location in cologne just half a block away from central station and the dom. Many reasonable food / eateries around including few that are open 24 hours such as a decent bakery/coffee "back werk " at the entrance to central station Business lounge has decent selection of food. Both Breakfast and dinner are decent with large variety of vegetables. Dinner warm plates included a decent Pasta dish and a good Chinese chicken dish. Very good selection of deserts and the sparkling wine was of great quality(this is unusual) The business lounge sitting is a bit on the hard side , not amazingly comfortable. Lounge is fresh though. Views are just ok. Room: disappointing. as a platinum member I got a very large room though very "cold" and boring. It did not feel cosy. I had no views at all surrounded by windows of adjacent office buildings . Room had a very strong smell of past smoking. No free water bottles. Espresso machine was good. For some reason My room was in 2nd floor rather then club floor. So club rooms might be better; although platinum members should expect to be put in these rooms I wasn't in this location. I arrived very early on Thursday 8 am after a very long flight .There was a room waiting but for some reason hotel did not manage to make it available until 12.. Although hotel does not have to provide a room so early , I usually get one in such cases. It was a bit disappointing compared to other places but nevertheless I can't complain since I arrived early and room is not guarantied at these hours of course. (As a platinum , I was provided with access to the lounge by the receptionist until room is ready.) Reception staff are professional and helpful in general. no major issues here beside handling of early check-in. Overall : Good: 1. Amazing Location. 2. Good Food selection in executive lounge. 3. Professional staff. Mixed feeling though in regards to early checkin. 4. Ok handling of platinum members. Cons: 1. Heavy Smoke smell in room 2. Quiet a boring room (230) 3. No views - dark , surrounded by office windows. 4. Delayed Handling of early a very early check-in. 5. Not much beside reception and rooms. A very City like hotel.
We stayed for one night at the city centre Marriott on our way back to London. It is a very nice hotel with very pleasant, helpful and efficient staff. The room was spacious and well appointed with very good bathroom facilities. The restaurant and breakfast were of a high standard and we found our stay here extremely enjoyable. The location is ideal, being so close to the main rail station and city centre. In terms of value, this was the best hotel we stayed in on our holiday, and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
