Dorint Hotel am Heumarkt Köln5.0 out of 5.0

I had the opportunity to stay two days in the Dorint hotel during a business trip. The room was really good, and the personnell really kind and professional. I had the breakfast included, and it was really great. I suggest this hotel to everyone.
We are a young professional gay couple in our 30s visiting Cologne for the first time in August. We stayed at the Dorint for four nights, from Thursday to Monday. Overall it was an excellent experience at a very reasonable price, except for an awful check-in experience which was caused by some exceptional circumstances. But objectively, Dorint certainly deserves a 5/5 rating. We were given room 571. The room was quite spacious (lots of space to lay out luggage), and the décor/reno was pretty standard and modern. It had a nice size desk and a comfortable beach fixed to a corner. The bed/pillow were comfortable. The bathroom was of good size and well designed. The Wifi in the room was intermittent however. Our room did not have much of a view (some rooms have a clear view of the Cathedral!) but it has big windows so the room was bright and airy feel. Overall, a comfortable and functional space. The hotel is quite large (just shy of 100 rooms each floor, I think) so it does take a bit of a walk from the elevator. The ambiance of the hotel was sleek yet very refined/luxurious. The glass wall of the elevator allows all guests to enjoy a clear and direct view of the Cathedral. The hallways and lobby are well decorated. The bar in the lobby appeared to be a very popular place for locals, attracting a smartly dressed, if older, crowd, dancing well into the night (past 1am). All but one member of the front desk staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. (We had an extremely awful experience checking-in, but it was due to a combination of late arrival/a power outage/one particularly incompetent night shift staff. Did not think it would be fair to hold that against the hotel.) Our room were tidied every day. Location-wise, we picked it as it was walking distance to most of the key attractions and also the gay night life (which Cologne is somewhat known for… there are a number of gay bars in the Alter Markt just a few minute walk away, though the strip where most of the gay bars are turned out to be 20 minute walk away, so we mostly just cabbed). We found the location quite convenient. Overall, it was an excellent stay.
Always nice to stay here. Nice rooms, good beds and shower. Bar is awsome but expensive so is the garage. 26€ per night for parking is too much. Some mice live in the hotel bar. Everyone seems ok with that. Rhey come from outside they say. Breakfast is great. Will call again!
I highly recommend this hotel. The room was sooo clean, it feels like you were the first guess ever. Breakfast had lots of choices and even dairy free products (soy). The location is near one of the metros few blocks from the main bridge. Not sure you if it is a walking distance to do a night if you are spending time in the old part of Cologne. In that area you have some restaurants where food is average. Excellent hotel for a business trip. The pillows are too soft, I have to use the other duvet as pillow.
Check-in was very smoothly although my reservation could not be immediately traced in the system. Room was perfect and quite. Breakfast was perfect. This is a large hotel, with large lobby and very busy elevators. 500m from Dom Platz and Rhein. Very close to the old City (Altstadt).
I was staying at the hotel last week, and while having dinner at the Harry's Bar we saw mice running around. I was petrified and astonished. The waiter immediately realized too and come to tell us that, they knew already, that the problem is being going on for some days already, and there is nothing else they could do. We complained at reception, and they said, that the management already knew but there is nothing the could do. They only add the complain to the log book. I told them that in my opinion if a Restaurant is having mice, for health reasons they should keep it close until the problem is solved. They said, they prefer to keep it open as is only bar they have at the hotel. I'm still shocked about the situation and even worse how they manage this problem. The hotel is good, and it is well located, but this experience ruined the entire stay. They didn't even bother to send an apologice card or anything'. And course they charged for the full invoice of the bar, which I did pay and I regret so much for being so silly. I will never come back!
Chose the hotel for central location, inclusive breakfast and swimming pool. Disappointed to find out that the pool cost 15 euros per person per day if we wanted to use it. I consider that this was misrepresented. On arrival they advised that they had not got the room we booked available, so upgraded us to a Komfort level, which was nice. Excellent views of Cathedral from glass lift. Room cleaning & replenish ranged from meticulous on second day to patchy which was disappointing after such a great start. Massive breakfast buffet amazing including TWELVE choices of muesli ! Overall good despite my niggles.
Just having drinks in Harry's Bar in this hotel and to my absolute horror saw three mice running across the floor under my feet, followed by two more mice within a couple of minutes!!!. Mentioned this to the bar staff who said that the managers are aware of the problem. Took drinks and returned to my room. Mentioned it at reception as I left but they just shrugged and said "Did you tell the bar staff?" Up to this our experience in the hotel has been very positive but now ,OMG, traumatised!!!
I ranked the Dorint 6 out 10 because it is a 5 star hotel at the edge of the historic old town of Cologne. It's central location makes it a great base for your Koln holiday and for christmas markets. Lots to see and do, with many great places to, shop, eat and drink around the corner. The lobby of the hotel is large and opens up into the bar and restaurant area. The checkin and check out were extremely slow, however staff was very welcoming. Rooms had ample space and were nice and quiet, with comfortable beds. My only complaints are that interior room furniture should be updated or better maintained, and the Room service food can be drastically improved.
This is just the kind of hotel for making a business trip even more successful. Spacious, clean, well-kept, nicely decorated: all that you expect for a hotel in this price range. Gorgeous fitness facilities (not operated by hotel but can be accessed from the hotel), good bar, beautiful breakfast. Just the place to be, and very close to the city center.
