Great location and comfortable rooms with friendly staff. Cocktail bar is fun for before or after a night out. About 20 minute walk from main station. 10 minute walk to restaurant area. Chocolate museum is right next door!
Made a visit to cologne with my partner, and this place was perfect in every way, polite & patient staff, service was brilliant and the rooms were immaculate. Also it was a perfect base for us as we were visiting most of the Christmas markets. Oh I can’t forget all the beautiful paintings. Thank you for having us.
We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in December as a base for the cities winter markets and it was perfect. The harbour market is literally downstairs, and the rest of the main markets are very close, especially as the winter market train departs from downstairs. The hotel itself is modern, with big white rooms, with nice big beds and good views from the balconies (if staying in a river view room). The beds are proper queens, with two single duvets on top, which is a good touch. Everything was clean, the bathroom was a good size, good quality toiletries and when we did have an issue, it was fixed prompty If i was to find fault, its that there isnt power points both sides of the bed by the headboard, but this is hardly an issue. The breakfasts are a continental buffet with good hot and cold choices and non stop coffee / juice. This isnt the cheapest hotel, but its high quality, and quieter, being literally a 15 minute walk from the cathedral. Certainly recommended as a good base to explore the city, especially if you dont mind being a little way out. Would stay again.
Stayed here 2 nights just before Christmas, we were travelling with teenagers so booked 2 rooms and asked for them to be adjoining. We had to be upgraded to river view rooms and then an additional charge of 10 euros a night per room, which we thought was reasonable. The room looked to be very clean and comfy, beds were lovely, showers was powerful, the only thing that let it down was the rooms were far too hot to sleep in and the air conditioning seemed to have no affect what so ever, such a shame as apart from this you couldn't fault the rooms at all. Breakfast was plentiful, good choice of food. Staff we encountered seemed pleasant. They did let us stay longer as we had a late flight so that kind of made up for the too warm room. Location was great for the markets, with a small market just outside and a short walk to other markets.
Hotel does have the art theme throughout and imaginative furniture in reception. The family room was plenty big enough - with a fun annex box off the side of the hotel ! Breakfast was good, feee snacks through the day, and efficient reception. Clean, quirky and does the job.
If you stay in hotels often you’ll find it difficult to differentiate the Art’otel from any other. The tea and coffee making facilities were hindered by the powdered milk (even then there was not much of it). The bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom were both beautifully clean. However, the sofa bed in our corner room which we were sharing between 4 of us was nightmarishly uncomfortable. The products in the bathroom were all Elemis spa products which was a pleasant surprise. The room service prices were obscene. £10 for a currywurst which you can buy for £2 st the currywurst counters! The hotel is about a 15 minute walk to Heumarkt and a further 10 to the cathedral. Public transport doesn’t really fill the void either as you are still left with walking at least half the journey. However, it is ideally located for the Lindt Schokolademuseum! All in all the hotel is average - lovely and clean if you’re just looking for a place to crash after exploring the city.
Stayed here with my wife, this hotel is a perfect base from which to explore from, so close to Cologne cathedral and the chocolate factory is on your doorstep, ideal also for the Christmas markets also on the doorsteps, the breakfast on a morning are perfect in all ways, tons of choices for all, would stay here again well done art’otel, excellent staff and service
Nice hotel, spacious rooms, good service and good location: close to the river old port, walking distance fron the river area packed with famous brauhouses and bars. Yet, not quite a luxurious stance. It is freezing outside and the hotel doesnt feel warm (not cold either). Breakfast is ok, it has the food you would expect at any german breakfast. Indeed an art oriented hotel with modern taste.
This is my second stay at the property, located walking distance to old town food and fun and the Dom. It is next to a Rheine canal by the chocolate museum (yes!) with relatively easy access to Freeway. Lobby restaurant/breakfast is good. Rooms are modern and spacious. Rooms and halls display art. Ask for the slightly larger corner rooms with great views of the city from upper levels. The top floor has a sauna. The lobby bar is small and chronically understaffed - specially on weekends or when there is a Messe- fair in Koln or Düsseldorf. But this hotel overall remains a good stay.
I was originally booked into another hotel for my trip to Cologne but due to being a Club Carlson member I opted to stay here because I could pay with Points and Cash which made the cost of the reservation much more reasonable. And, I hadn't stayed in an art'otel before so it would be a new experience. Arrived quite late at night, having gone 'round in circles' trying to find it from Hauptbahnhof and in the end I got a taxi... who in turn ripped me off. I later realised it wasn't actually that far away. First and foremost was the entrance which wasn't 'entirely' wheelchair accessible. When I got there, who I was with had to go to reception because there were steps and no sign of a ramp... that's because there wasn't one! So, I went to the other entrance and had to wait for someone to unlock the door... then was greeted with another flight of stairs and waited while they activated the stairlift as guests aren't able to do this. This isn't ideal as you have to wait for someone to assist you instead of being able to come and go as you please; Having eventually arrived into the hotel I checked in which was pretty standard. However, the desk was very high and hence I couldn't see over it. Some other hotels have a section which is lower for people like myself in a wheelchair. My room was on the fourth floor and was reasonably large for an Accessible room. Everything was within easy reach and 'lowered'. But, and this is not uncommon in accessible rooms, even in the 'better' hotels as i've found. There were a 'niggle' in the shower room... a flip-down shower chair but it was facing away from the wall so I had to transfer onto it and shuffle round to be under the jet of water. It would be better if the chair was to the side and then I wouldn't have had to adjust position. Also, bizarrely there was no plug for the sink and it wasn't one with a button behind the tap either. Everywhere else in the hotel was accessible and all the staff were very friendly and accommodating. There was a restaurant where you could get drinks and a good selection of international meals & snacks in the Lobby Bar. In the room there was a U.K. plug socket which is really handy instead of having to use the adapter... or if you'd forgotten to pack it! Very nice location on the banks of the Rhine and 15 minutes walk from the city centre. Would I stay again? Unfortunately, probably not!
