Maritim Hotel Köln

After my fair share of visits in Koeln I had to visit the Maritim Hotel this time around. The structure is on the banks of the river and is humongous. However I can say just good words in general. Its location is excellent and close to the city center, transportation means (S-Bahn is literally 50 steps from the entrance), the river, the Dom, shopping mile, well you name it. Lobby is huge and reception is hidden behind three glass elevators. The entire hotel is build like a courtyard with rooms facing in and out of the "court", but no worries rooms are quite far from one another so it doesn't feel like someone is watching you (remember the structure is humongous). Rooms are very spacious and clean. There is need for renovation in the rooms though. Double beds as in almost all German hotels are two twins put together. Mattress are on the semi-hard side of the hardness and are OK, however extra pillows are need as they are quite fluffy and become too soft and thin the moment you lay your head. In general the room furniture is old, carpet although clean still needs to be replaced as it is showing its age. There is a LCD TV in the room with mostly German channels and few international. The AC is central and works perfectly. The minibar is nice and small and one can use it for its own stuff if needed. Bathrooms are renovated and the shower/bath is extraordinary. All in all the rooms are quite OK for whatever time you spent in there being a weekend, overnight or even a longer period of time. Breakfast is served just above the lobby in the 'courtyard" and I tell you is an experience. The space gives you room to breathe and you feel like you are out of the hotel. Breakfast per se is limitless in terms of choice, one could find everything to satisfy the taste (there is even champagne for breakfast :-), which by the way is a brand mark for Maritim Hotels all-over). Staff is very friendly and helpful at any time of the day and night. They can assist you with all the questions and queries you might have not only for the hotel but for the city as well. Big thumbs up for the management in this direction. I would definitely visit again.

Just stayed here for 2 nights The good things Nice staff Taxis outside Good location Great shower Breakfast in the room so worth the 3.50€ charge Not so good Noise building work starts early No conditioner or body Cream etc just shampoo and shower gel. Beds 2 singles pushed together Wifi so slow! Curtains let light in at ends Breakfast mad downstairs had to share a table and hard to get at things wish I had room Service both days

This was our second visit to Cologne and our first to this hotel. It is an excellent location as a base. It backs onto the river and over looks the Heumarkt. Excellent for the Christmas markets and for getting around. The rooms are a good standard and very clean. The only downside is the cost of breakfast. A bit steep at £19 per person. We found a little family run bakery about 500 m from the hotel where we got a great breakfast for 16 euros for 3 of us so it didn't spoil anything. Would definitely recommend it as a base for touring the city

Stayed here on first and last nights on a Great Rail Journeys tour. By far the best hotel they have used in Cologne and I hope they continue to use it. Evening meal and breakfast were good. Nice location beside the river.

From the reception check in thru to the housekeeping folks the response to questions from a non German speaking person was always met with a smile and an answer. The morning breakfast, which was included in the price, was one of the best I've had in a long time - and I travel regularity. Also tried one other in house restaurant with a good quality and more importantly a good value.

We stay at this hotel each year. Within walking distance of everything, the Old Town, Restaurants, the Cathedral, the Rhine , shopping, etc., Large Hotel yes, but you get all the amenities, Restaurants, Bar, Fine Dinning, Terrace Cafe, Casual dinning. Doesn't get any better than this. We return each year and are never disappointed.

Our room was nicely sized with an excellent view of the Dom (the large must see Cathedral). We were thrilled with the modern shower which had an overhead rain feature and unique mood lights that frequently changed colors. We were, however, disappointed that wifi did not reach our fifth floor room and that we had to go to the lobby to use it. The hotel appears to have been built for serious crowds though it was somewhat vacuous while we were there, with most of the interior shops closed for no apparent reason. The hotel makes up for the lack of upscale restaurants in the immediate neighborhood with Cafe Bellevue on the top floor overlooking the Rhein River. The restaurant draws a more senior crowd and boasts many heads of state who have dined there. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and attentive, greeting and dismissing guests with a proper handshake. The shopping district is a five minute walk away and the Dom about a 12 minute walk. We would stay at this hotel again.

Have stayed here several times before and will be back again when next in cologne. Paid extra for a room with a cathedral view which was amazing, the room was huge with a lovely seating area by the window. This is a lovely hotel, clean and has great facilities including parking on site. The hotel is in a great location with a metro stop out front. See you next time!!

The room was clean but basic, food wasn't great in the evening as the place was like a ghost town, no one was in the restaurants so I ordered room service. Breakfast was good with plenty of variety though. The hotel is just big and in the middle of nowhere. It's empty and like a ghost town. I wouldn't stay here again unless I really had to.

Stayed here while on a group trip. Very nice building. Room was large & very clean. Evening meal was good. also Breakfast. Overall a nice place to stay, friendly staff. Would not hesitate at staying here again.
