Maritim Hotel Köln4.0 out of 5.0

Booked a last minute trip to Cologne as part of a three country European vacation with my daughter. This was one of the few hotels in the city still available, and at a fantastic price for the area. It was in the perfect spot for a couple of days off sightseeing on foot. A 15 minute walk to the train station, the Cologne Cathedral, and the Museum Ludwig in one direction, maybe 10 minutes to the Chocolate Museum in the other direction. The atrium does get very hot, but the air conditioning in the room was plenty cold. We didn't eat in any of the hotel restaurants because there was so much good food (at cheaper prices) just steps away. Front desk provided great service to us first time European travelers, including printing out our train tickets to our next location. Would not hesitate to stay here again.
This is an amazing place. Stayed twice as part of a tour group and was pleased with the facilities and top level service. Room air con has trouble dealing with heatwaves and the atrium is hot enough to grow tomatoes but the place is very nice if a bit expensive.
This is our first hotel on our European tour. Very professionally run. The room is large with two single beds, just what we need. The bathroom is outstanding. We had afternoon tea in the bar and they can make a cup of tea. We had dinner in one of the restaurants and it was excellent. Keep up the good work.
Lovely location at the border of the Rhine, but the hotel would need some upgrades. Rooftop restaurant Bellevue has indeed a great view but pricing is out of wack and the restaurant needs a desperate upgrade on its interior. I cannot imagine it is a winning concept. Got upgraded to the suite. Reason an overbooking and whether I could share with a female collegue??? It has two bed and bathrooms :-). Location 7th floor overlooking the Rhine (even better than the restaurant :-) ). The suite itself while clean seems to date out of the early 80’s and also needs a desperate upgrade.
We came to Maritim on the hottest time day this year, to find that the glass atrium had trapped heat to the extent that the hotel’s air conditioning couldn’t keep rooms at a desired temperature. BUT we got extraordinary service from the reception/information staff. BUT The wi fi wasn’t strong enough to load most web pages. BUT the shower was State-of-the-art, one of the best i’ve experienced. BUT the pillow was a piece of fluff, hot like the duvet but unable to lift the head. So you decide.
I stayed at this hotel for one night. The room and bathroom were clean and big! It’s in a great location you can see the Catherdral from the main entrance. The WiFi worked well in my room and was free. I would stay here again
We know this hotel for a long time, because we visit Cologne for more than 25 years regurarly because of trade fair and chocolate museum, but we have never slept there. We were there on birthday celebrations of our German friends some time ago. We had, of course, expectations, which were fullfilled. The rooms are comfortable as well as bed, once we had a view to Rhine, second stay partly to the hall and partly to the river. We had a nice rest in the hotel before and after our cruise, one and two nights. We used swimming pool, very nice swim, water is a bit salty. Location is excellent in the centre, also journey to the airport with public transport is easy, we came in the evening and it took us half an hour only, by train to Deutz Station and from there by tram two stations. If we go to Cologne again, not for trade fair, we use this hotel once more.
Very handily located with a convenient bridge to the riverside form where it is a short walk to both the railway bridge and of course the cathedral Dinner was chaos for us and very lengthy as the hotel had not provided the expected buffet However the room was comfy and we slept well and breakfast the next morning was good
The positives first, in addition to the comments below which I agree with. My room on the 5th floor was large and spacious with the best shower I have ever had the pleasure of standing under. German plumbing at it's very best! A few negatives to mention - I agree with the reviewer below about the electrical sockets - none by the bed and only one next to the TV and one in the bathroom. I see the coffee makers are on order but the lack of a kettle in the room is a serious oversight for a hotel that claims to be in the luxury marker. The mini-bar is well-stocked but beware ! Although the bottled water is not listed on the check-sheet, it is chargeable at €2.50 a bottle. Did not realise this until I got my bill. That is cheeky ! There is a Piano Bar in the lobby that opens late and when I was there, an Irish pianist sang (in English). He was a great piano player but you could hardly tell as he had his vocal mic turned up to 11 and he also insisted on whistling really loudly into it which was just dreadful. I don't know if he is there all the time, but if he just kept quiet and played the piano I would have given him five stars and bought him a drink. As it turned out, we tried to find a spot in the bar away from the pa system so that we could hear each other. The bar is well stocked with cocktails and spirits but the wine list is embryonic at best. I would give it 3.5/5.
It has all the typical german quality of facilities. A hotel with its own spirit. Staff on reception were receptive and adequate. I have got overall good experience with them. The room was comfortable and designed to provide a good rest after active day. I enjoyed my stay.
