Very disappointed with our stay over New Year. The room was really tired with dirty doors & walls, didn't feel like a 5* room in the slightest. More like a 3*. Staff were all (apart from the v helpful concierge) miserable and unfriendly, especially in the restaurant. They all seemed demoralised and didn't enjoy their job. Waitress in the restaurant was abrupt and rude, another waiter ignored us when we tried to order and we needed to ask for our bill twice. €10 for a bottle of water is a rip off. Most annoyingly, the spa and pool area (which looks more like a public leisure centre - not at all like the photos) were closed for half our stay (we weren't told beforehand, and was one of the main reasons we booked), and the gym area was being painted while we were using it. We've stayed at a few Hyatts and this was by far the worst. The 10-15min walk to the centre is inconvenient, especially as there are no nice bars or cafes nearby - felt quite stranded, especially in the rain (NB if you're staying at new year the bridges to the hotel are closed!). When we checked out we gave all the reasons to why we were disappointed but the receptionist wasn't too interested, he just said the Düsseldorf Hyatt is newer which is why we enjoyed it more (didn't seem to understand the problem with unhappy staff, as he was one of them). The lobby area is nice but everything else (including the outside) is tired, out of date and falls far from the usual standard you'd expect from a 5* hotel.
Everything was very nice at this hotel. Location was awesome and easy to get to the old town and the room had a great view of the Rhine and Cologne Cathedral. Hotel was clean and the staff was great! Would highly recommend the place!
I stayed at Hyatt twice back in March (I stayed with my friend who lives in Cologne but I'm a writer and went to check out the hotel for research and treat myself to a bit of luxury). My first stay was great, I felt well treated and I loved all the exclusive Club Lounge features. The food in the restaurant was expensive but delicious, my room was quiet, neat and super comfortable with a nice view and I had a wonderful time all around. I would definitely recommend going in the off season because everything was so much more affordable and the weather was perfect, not too cold or too hot. I would have given my review five stars if it hadn't been for my second stay a week after. I was given the same room, which I appreciated, but my whole experience was ruined by one rude and arrogant staff member. She was one of the front desk agents working on the sixth floor in the Club Lounge and I found nothing more annoying than having her run around in noisy high heels early in the morning when breakfast took place. She had a fake smile and I could tell I was not privileged to more because I was not one of the rich people among the guests. When I stood in her way to get some coffee at the buffet she gave me an annoyed and rather aggressive look and I was so taken aback by her unprofessional demeanor that I went back to my room to calm down. When I came back I saw her in the hallway and she gave me that fake smile again like what had happened didn't even take place. What an awful employee who is not able to conceal her emotions at all! I believe she was working at Hyatt for quite some time and had some sort of "status" because when I complained about her on the day I checked out, I was laughed at by a young front desk agent who didn't believe me and took HER side, claiming she couldn't imagine her ever being like that. Now, being from the same line of work I knew exactly she was playing me especially when she said she would pass it along. Yes, when I checked out the front desk was really busy but an experience that had started out so beautifully was destroyed by this one blond and stuck up employee who would have never treated me like this if I had been someone with money. And the same goes for the front desk agent who surely would have taken my complaint seriously if I had been a celebrity or some rich person. I will never return to Hyatt and find it absolutely disappointing for a five-star hotel to have such inappropriate and unprofessional employees. And as a German myself and having worked at German hotels, I just find such behavior unacceptable because I know exactly what we are being taught and how to treat EACH customer.
I spent close to 150 days in this hotel (not consecutively). I love this place. The hotel is in a great location, walking distance from the cathedral in Cologne. Great vibe. Rooms are nice, staff is very friendly. Views of the river are incredible.
You can not compare the beauty of the view from the hotel!! Customer service was over and above anything else I've ever experienced at a hotel. Executive lounge was the best - for food, view and service.
A two night stay in an overall pleasant hotel. Nice location if you don’t mind a 10 min walk to the main town - we didn’t. Lovely lobby and the breakfast was very nice. We also had lunch in the bar which was nice and staff were lovely and professional. Room was spacious and bed was comfortable. It’s a little dated and the large bathroom could be made to feel more luxurious and it give it the 5 star feel. Perhaps painting the red windowsills a softer colour would be a start. Some little extras too are definitely needed for a five star hotel. We booked a river view but in order to get this view you have to lean over a large windowsill and look right. It wasn’t the river view we felt we had paid extra for. If we didn’t make the effort to lean over the windowsill you couldn’t see it instead we looked directly onto an office block. We had to request more water the second day as none was left. We’ve stayed in some truly beautiful five star hotels which make you ‘wow’ every time you turn around in the room. For us this room was pleasant. It was spacious and quiet. The room service was good and staff were friendly and polite and they did a great job. I think the actual room needs to be improved and some extras added to give it the true five star feel. It just wasn’t there for us. He bathroom really needs rethinking. It just doesn’t feel as welcoming as it could be. Issues with shower door etc...and presentation. Some simple changes could really make this great sized bathroom wow. The lobby, restaurant and staff are all really good. A little more attention to the rooms and it could be really really great and to us a true five star.
We stayed at the hotel for two nights as part of our European holiday. The vast majority of the staff were very good and welcoming and the facilities of the hotel are very good. We paid extra for a room on the club floor, with access to the lounge there and afternoon drinks and food. Unfortunately on our first afternoon there we were approached by a member of staff and questioned rather abruptly whether we should be on that floor. Perhaps staff on this floor should be instructed that people on holiday do not wear business attire,and just because they are not wearing a suit does not mean that they are not spending a large amount of their own money to stay at the hotel! We also had the experience of this same staff member not having the lounge area prepared for evening drinks at the appropriate time, and then being instructed to sit and wait while he got things ready. By the time we had waited almost half an hour, it was too late and we had to leave as we had other arrangements. Very annoying to not get something that you have paid for due to a staff member being unorganised. Clearly the Club Floor needs a bit more supervision from hotel management. It is a shame that this experience spoiled what would have been an otherwise enjoyable stay.
First time ever in a 5* hotel. From beginning to the end i've enjoyed it. When we arrived we were offerd free valet parking. At check-in we were offerd a room upgrade for €50. WORTH IT. We had room 227 with a great view on the Cologne cathedral and the river. Just wow. We've also used the spa and pool. We've enjoyed that as well. And now the AMAZING (little pricey but worth it) breakfast. What a huge choice in all sorts of bread, cheese and meat and freshly baked eggs. It was worth all the money. I would come back for sure!!
Excellently located, too expensive for what you get, "cheaply" renovated rooms, charm of the 1970´s could not be overturned even in the renovated rooms. Very fine club lounge - small but food and drinks of high quality. Good for a night or two but too expensive for what you get and don´t expect too much roomwise. Old/outworn bathrooms. Much fresh paint on old wood.
The hotel is very nice and a good base for visiting the Christmas markets. It has good amenities and the staff were very helpful when we had a few issues (none of which were their fault). Look forward to my next visit.
