The hotel was modern and clean. I had a standard room and the size was good. It was just a queen sized bed, so if you are two persons and want a king size bed, you need to specify it. The bed came with several kinds of pillows which was nice. The bed was on the firm side which is not always my preference, but I was comfortable. The bathroom was small and very clean with a walk in shower and no tub. Fine with me, but in case you really want a bath tub, I'm not sure if any rooms have them so be sure and check. The hotel is not in the downtown but was a nice scenic 15 minute walk. Even in Fall when it was mid-40s, we elected to walk and thought it was very doable and even enjoyable. The bar restaurant was a nice feature and we had several refreshing beverages. The breakfast was not included in our room, but I paid for it anyway and found it very good. The opportunities that I see for improvement would be to provide conditioner as well as shampoo and to provide lotion. I missed those things. Also while the bar is open until 11pm, both times that we went there was no one there and we had to ask the front desk to call someone. The bartender came immediately, but it felt confusing because we weren't sure if it was actually still open. The upshot is I would absolutely stay here again.
We booked a ‘superior room’ which was the same as the standard one, but with extra services like free (limited) minibar and room service charge is waivered. Good bed, loved the USB charging points, excellent bathroom, large tv We tried out the room service after a long day of shopping and were pleasantly surprised by the tasty Schnitzel, salad and desserts. Although the mushroom geschnetzeltes was a bit disappointing as a much smaller dish than anticipated. Breakfast was tasty and extensive (still miss the freshly squeezed orange juice and waffles though ;-))
good location, adequate faciliites, convenient parking, good and large room. the wi fi service is very poor, low and interrupted signal. employee from the room cleaning team with very unpleasent odor, the hotel must care about the hygiene of ist staff.
On arrival to this hotel I got told by the receptionist I had to pay a 300 Euro authorisation fee and that the amount would not be taken out of my account. Then to find out the next day that 300 Euro had been taken out of my account. When querying this with a different receptionst there response was after check out it will go on back onto my card in 2 days. It is now the 11/10/2017 and I have still yet to recieve my money that was taken out of my account from the 02/11/2017. The hotel have been no help at all told me it was down to my bank to give me the money. When speaking to my bank the hotel have put a pending date on till the 18/10/2017. I have had bills come out of my account because I am unable to pay them with 300 Euro taking out of my account fees have been added to my account for missed payments. I honestly don’t know when I will receive my money back. When explaining all this to the hotel they do not seem a bit phased at all by my problem. Why they take such a huge ammount anyway is ridiculous! Has been so stressful and I would never again return to a Novotel hotel after this experience.
Stayed in Cologne for one night after a business meeting and got nice larger than average room at the Koeln City. Really helpful staff who helped me sort out a hectic trip. Really good value for money for a nice clean friendly Hotel in a good location
We had a group of 25 staying here. Strengths: Location right on the river great for walking; 15 minutes to Old town; rooms are brand new and very thoughtfully designed for a business traveler - you have everyhting you need; great lighting and outlets; breakfast buffet is extensive with fresh portion very nice. Shoe shiner on every floor and good workout room. Opportunities: Service as mentioned is spotty; a few of the newer folks not sure what to do and on some occasions at the bar/restaurant no one is checking on you. Management needs to have a clear leader on site at all times. This would not make not stay here. Hotel is 5 floors; ask for a garden view - peaceful. Even numbers facing garden.
We stayed here for 1 night on 22nd Sept and found the team at the front desk reception very sloppy. We were given keys to a room which was already occupied and was embarrassing when we were trying to open the door with our card key and the occupant inside opened the door. On going back down to the reception with not so much as an apology they just gave us another room. On asking for instructions to go to city as well the responses are very curt if you ask them to repeat. Not a pleasant experience.
The hotel may seem to be far away from the different Christmas markets but it is easily accessible by car. The rooms are modern and standard. The breakfast buffet offers a large choice of food and drinks.
The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the centre and is on a main road. There are some modern offices opposite and the Rhine which was nice on a sunny day. The reception staff were mostly helpful but the male staff on reception were rather surly - on arrival we were not given any info about the hotel/breakfast etc. He did not take card details which caused some hassle later when we tried to put some drinks on our room bill. The hotel itself is very modern, breakfast room and bar are fashionable and the rooms very well appointed. We paid for breakfast and there was enough choice each day - pastries, cold meats, cereals, some hot options too. Breakfast runs from 7.30 - 10.30. The hotel was quiet with mostly German guests. When we had a meal in the restaurant one night we were asked to pay for tap water which was ridiculous really. Although we did encounter this in the Hyatt hotel too despite the fact that we had ordered a 40€ for a bottle of wine. Nice hotel overall but some staff let it down.
Even by German standards, the staff don't just not bother providing any level of customer service, but are outright rude. Don't waste your money on this. Stay at the radisson blu across the river. You couldn't pay me to stay here again.
