Have been to Secrets resorts 5 or 6 times in the past (our favorites) but this was first visit after the Hyatt takeover. First day was chaos as this resort was very difficult to navigate without a hardcopy map. Instead you were referred to a phone app to download a tiny, hard to read map. Beach extremely narrow and you cannot walk up or down the beach past this property. No reservations at restaurants but one hour wait time at around 7 pm. $190 US $ upcharge for steaks at Embers!!-- or settle for tough NY strip. ALL chairs at all 9 pools were "claimed" by a towel on the chair by 8am every morning. Very frustrating! All vodka drinks, especially martinis had very noticable "watered" down vodka--undrinkable. PLUSES: Superb breakfast buffet, outstanding cheeseburger & fries at Barefoot grill, outstanding menu and food (Salmon with Caper sauce) at Almoro Italian, great taco bar at night in front of lobby, outstanding pools (9), outstanding overall architecture, and superb wait staff. Beautiful rooms with jaw dropping bathroom and shower! Hyatt needs to improve quality of vodka drinks (REAL Grey Goose) and bring the restaurants up to par with their Italian restaurant. And DO NOT USE Speedy Shuttle suggested by Orbitz!!!!!

I have stayed at this property 4 times. I am surprised of the many new rules since I understand new management has taken over, yet rooms ,including the Casitas are not as up to date as they used to be. They've taken away a lot of what was fun, close things down earlier, and make you have a reservation at every restaurant for dinner. The food really hasn't changed, and the room service menu has become lackluster, as has the regular food. I miss the craft beer options since the last time I was there. The follow up and follow through on customer service's end was not stellar this time around. I was considering becoming a member, but after even inquiring 3 times, nobody wanted to follow up to talk with me about it. Sadly, this may be my last time at such an amazing place I used to love and enjoy.

We stayed for 7 nights during Christmas week with two young kids, 2yo and 9yo. Both kids have fun at water park & eating a variety of found options at restaurants and shows. Inside resorts is very safe and clean. Staff are all welcoming and very polite. Transportation from and to airport is pretty good with very little wait. Water park has a lot of fun for both kids. Both my kids enjoy the Christmas Eve show. My 9yo also enjoy other kid themed show in the evening. I took out one star just because the light in the room to dim for me. Really hard to see things very clear along room hallway and bath/shower place. If you drop something, will be very hard to find it because of the dim lighting.

The resort was clean, pleasing, and plenty of space. The food however left something to be desired. I feel that quality was sacrificed for quantity. Even the "nicer" dining areas were somewhat of a disappointment. The Flame was a total disappointment. The grilled chicken wasn't grilled and was very dry. The Strip steak wasn't what a Strip steak should be and was mostly fat and gristle. The food at the grills at the pool and the party were fantastic. The staff was great.
