When to Book Flights to Bali

Bali has just two seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. As you’d expect, most tourists visit the island in the dry season which runs from April to October. Although you may experience a few downpours during this period, in general skies are clear and temperatures are warm. The only downside of booking your Bali flights in the peak season is that bargain fares and cheap hotels can be harder to find. Luckily, if you know where to look finding a great deal should be easy.

November to March is Bali’s rainy season. In general fewer people visit the island at this time of year, however Christmas is increasingly becoming another peak period in Bali. As it’s the low season, flights to Bali from NYC and other US destinations can be a little harder to find and you may need to be a little more flexible about your dates if you want to secure a cheap airfare.

Ngurah Rai International Airport

The main airport serving Bali is Ngurah Rai International. Located around eight miles from Denpasar, the island’s capital, the airport offers a wide choice of flights to destinations around the world. As well as regular services to domestic and regional air hubs, a number of long haul flights depart from Ngurah Rai International with the widest choice of departures available during the island’s peak season.

From the airport, you can take a taxi to your destination or arrange for a private transfer to your hotel.

How to Get Around Bali

The easiest way to get around Bali is by taxi. Taxis are readily available on the island and fares are generally affordable. If you want to travel long distances, or hire a taxi for a day of sightseeing, make sure you agree a price with your driver before you set off. If you’re on a budget, you could catch one of the many Bemos (vans or minibuses) that travel around Bali however be prepared to be patient as journeys can take a while.

If you’re feeling brave, motorbike hire is available from a number of places on the island. If you choose to hire a bike make sure you wear a helmet and drive carefully as the island’s roads can be unpredictable.

Must-See Attractions in Bali

The most famous sight in Bali is probably the Pura Tanah Lot. This iconic temple is set on a rocky outcrop and is surrounded by crashing waves. Head to the temple in the evening for spectacular sunset views over the water.

The perfect way to follow a sunset at Pura Tanah Lotis a sunrise at Mount Batur. From the summit you can enjoy sweeping views over the thickly forested landscape. After the sun’s come up many guides cook eggs for breakfast in the steam from this still active volcano.

US passport holders don’t need a visa to enter Bali for tourist visits of less than 30 days.
