Our stay was pleasant, and the Palmetto is a lovely hotel with friendly staff. The location was very convenient and within walking distance to points of interest and restaurants, the bed was very comfortable, and the complementary breakfast was tasty. However, the description on the website is a bit misleading. First, we paid a premium for a balcony only to find it was only about 1 foot deep and wasn't even useful for letting in fresh air since it was facing a fairly busy street. Second, the "nearby" gym is a 45 minute walk. Third, there is no restaurant. The bar serves appetizer food, but we were decidedly unimpressed with the charcuterie plate which came with about 8 cubes of cheddar and pepper jack rather than the fancier bits of cheese pictured on their website menu. Finally, while the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean, the carpets were worn and stained and the ottoman in the room (no chair) appeared to have had something spilled all over it.
The Palmetto was nice enough, but there were several other options that sounded as nice and were significantly less expensive We chose the Palmetto over the others because of the balcony and the gym access, both of which turned out to be a bust. In light of that, while I won't rule out staying at the Palmetto again, I will look at other hotels.
