Shem Creek Inn

3.0 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

A nice place to stay near downtown and walking distance from some very good seafood restaurants, and the Yorktown.

Reasonably comfortable but desperately need a remodel. Bathroom counter is too low for an average sized person in this decade. The lighting is extremely poor. Very difficult to apply make up or read. Looks very old and tired

Air conditioner and other room noises made sleeping difficult

Wonderful location and great views. The only bad thing was the pancake maker was broke which was a bummer for our kids.

Unfortunately A/C broke down. Room 85'. Managed to sleep. Would rate 5 if had A/C. Hotel is worn ( age) but enjoyable with delightful scenery

We have been to the Shem Creek area many times, for the town park, for the restaurants/bars, for the dolphins, for kayaking. We decided we would like on stay on the Creek this time, instead of on US 17 or in Charleston. We're glad we tried Shem Creek Inn. It was great. We'll be back.

It was a wonderful place to stay. We loved watching the shrimp boats come in and attracting the sea gulls, pelicans, and dolphins. The staff was very courteous and helpful. Definitely a place to stay again.

Although location was decent and the staff was friendly (Mona Lisa really tried to be accommodating), we were disappointed with the ramshackle appearance in and around the property, our room's hairdryer, coffee maker and heater didn't work. And upon requesting an additional blanket for warmth, none were avlbl. No housekeeping or maintenance personnel were avlbl after 5pm. There was no business center for computer or printer usage and the pool is not heated. Breakfast was very simple and mediocre. For $129-, Shem Creek Inn was way overpriced. I wd not have pd over $79- for this room overlooking the marsh/parking lot.

Great location. Staff was very helpful. Room was adequate. AC was noisy.

This is a place you can just park your car and walk to some great restaurants and bars. I think the creek side rooms are a bit over priced. Great are with plenty to do. The bathrooms need to be updated.

Friendly staff and good Location. Hotel is very old and in need of renovations. Small breakfast area.

I recently spent 5 days here with my sister on a ghost-hunting tour of Charleston. The room was very clean; beds exceptionally comfortable with lots of pillows. Had private balcony overlooking the marsh, which I love because I am a birdwatcher and I enjoyed walking on the boardwalk. The hotel is only 5-10 minutes outside of Charleston and an easy drive. Staff, especially Christopher, was very polite and helpful. The bad points were that the breakfast was minimal; nothing hot. The coffee pot in our room did not work. The remote for the TV did not work, but staff replaced it quickly as well as the battery that ran the air conditioner. Biggest problem was the ghastly parking lot. Not paved; rained for a few days and there was a gigantic puddle right where you had to drive your car (parking garage only holds a few cars). Plus the lot is full of very large potholes that would easily damage a car if you aren't very careful. Also noticed that people visiting one of the restaurant/bars on either side of the hotel were taking up what was left of the parking spaces in the evenings and no one was enforcing the Reserved for Shem Creek signs. But all in all, a pleasant stay and if my husband and I visit the area again, we will definitely stay there; just hope the parking lot gets fixed before then!

My wife & I recently went on a vacation to South Carolina and spent a week at the Shem Creek Inn in Mt. Pleasant, just outside of Charleston. Situated right on Shem Creek, the location, the view and accommodations were great. The Inn was centrally located to all of the sights we wanted to see, we couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. The only thing better than the previously mentioned items, was the staff. Ashley, Chris & Robbi (the general manager) were fantastic. So helpful, they couldn’t do enough to make sure that our stay there was memorable. We would highly recommend the Shem Creek Inn to any & all that want an awesome place to stay, where you will be treated like friends & family instead of just patrons. Thanks for a great week, we will be back. Chuck & Carol

Dirt entrance is moon-cratered, motel is threadbare, bathroom a 60's throwback. Not staff's fault-- facility is obviously a teardown. Good place to stay for your first motel visit -- everything will look like up after checking out.

The Shem creek gives a very rustic and homely feel sort of a throw back to child hood crossed with young adulthood in a grown up relaxed environment. thats hard to imagine but if you are over forty and visit here you will understand. Charleston is not on my regular visit list untill now, Shem creek makes Charleston a place i will visit again. The breakfast is nill to nothing and this is by no means high end but the surroundings and staff certainly give it a touch of that type of feel.

We stayed at the Shem Creek Inn prior to leaving out of Charleston on a cruise and we were very happy with our decision to do so. Easy access to Charleston and a number of good restaurant choices near by. The breakfast was minimal but the service by the desk staff was really top notch. Rooms were clean - but nothing fancy, Perfect for a 1 night stay..

The Shem Creek Inn was in a perfect location to explore Charleston and the surrounding plantations by day and then retreat to a quiet relaxing area at night. The breakfast is adequate, and the coffee is good. Several excellent restaurants surround the Inn. Guest laundry was not available, but there is a laundry mat available just a few miles away.

Older building but clean. Nice staff. A great alternative to Charleston or the beach. Marsh side is quieter tha creek side

My first impression was this place is old and outdated! Great location, affordable price, comfort, and great staff quickly changed the way I felt about things. Would stay again at the rate I received. Would not if charged the summer rate.

hotel overall was disappointing esp for the $

Families
