The hotel staff is friendly and helpful, the room felt very accommodating, and the pool was lovely. The location however I felt was the best of all. Everything in the colonial district was within walking distance and the beaches are a short cab ride away.
The Hotel personnel is excellent, room are great and service is the best, was great and hotel location if you wants to be in the old city is close to everything just walk to where you wants. Breakfast buffet was great and fine and personnel on the restaurant superior.
Great location, clean simple rooms, friendly staff. Roof top pool is amazing, not to mention that it is a great vantage point to watch the hustle and bustle of old town. If you are not a night owl make sure that you do not get a room adjacent to the disco next store!🤪 Also, beware that NH hotels have not yet sorted out there reward system to extend to Columbia. We did not get points for our stay in Cartagena or Bogota. When we inquired at the front desk ( we were back and forth for several months) they told us that things ar sometimes slow in Columbia. When we sent an email to the NH reward program we were told that Columbia is not fully integrated yet.
It was very easy to make my reservation, the work team is super attentive, thank u for u excellent service see u very soon..
Cartagena is a magical city and what better to be in a place where attention is super pleasing.
We stayed here on our last night in Cartagena. Beautiful hotel, friendly staff who spoke English, very comfortable room with many amenities, great location, beautiful rooftop pool and deck from which we enjoyed a gorgeous fireworks display. This was on a Saturday night, and a wonderful way to end our visit to such a charming, beautiful city.
I stayed at this hotel for two nights in Cartagena. The location is great! It’s in the middle of it all, and walking distance to everything behind the walled city with great views from the rooftop pool area. The location is the main pro of his hotel. The staff was friendly as well, and tried their best to communicate with us in English since we aren’t Spanish speakers (or at least our version of broken Spanish). The downside of this hotel was that when we got to our room it was as if they didn’t accommodate for more than one person. We were two people in a room but we only had one towel and one hand towel. We also didn’t have a blow dryer either and had to ask for it twice before it was brought up to our room. Other than that, the room was very clean, and as mentioned above the location was unbeatable. We would stay here again for location purposes alone.
It was unnecessarily difficult to make my reservation with NH Cartagena Urban Royal. I wanted to prepay which should be as simple as submitting your credit card info online. Instead, I had to email a PDF copy of my credit card and driver’s license to the hotel, and you guessed it, my credit card was then compromised with fraudulent charges. I finally got the reservation completed, but this experience did not leave me confident about my upcoming stay. This is a mixed review because I want to be honest about my experience, but know that I would still recommend this hotel, mostly based on its excellent location, and would stay here again. The Good Things: 1. Location – this hotel is right in the square overlooking the Clock Tower. As a tourist, everything you might want to do and see as far as exploring the Old City, riding the Hop On Hop Off tour bus, or catching cabs to Bocagrande is easily done from this location. You also have the ability to easily visit San Diego and Getsemani, both neighborhoods have excellent restaurants. 2. Hotel security is 24 hours, and as a solo traveler, I felt safe in this hotel. 3. The hotel has a decent breakfast to get your day started, although it’s pretty much the same thing offered each morning. The staff at the restaurant are very friendly. 4. The front desk staff were quite friendly, and one young man went out of his way to call a tour vendor so I could schedule a day trip to the islands. 5. The pool and rooftop lounge area is small, but offers lovely views. The Bad Things: 1. Location – If you want a quiet night or don’t sleep well, this might not be a good hotel for you. There are several rooftop bars and clubs immediately next to this hotel that play loud music until 3:00 in the morning. The plaza outside the hotel is also where every prostitute in Cartagena hangs out each night, waiting to get picked up. It was really sad to see this every night. 2. Despite making my reservation 2 months in advance, when I checked into my room, there was no toilet paper, there was no blow dryer and I had to request additional towels. It was like they didn’t know I was arriving, and housekeeping failed to properly set up the room. 3. If you have allergies or breathing issues, know that it is very damp and humid in your room, even when the air is on full blast all day. This could be due to the climate and not something that the hotel can fix, but I’ve stayed in other Caribbean hotels and not had this issue. 4. The hotel turns off its lobby lights at night. Instead of returning to a well-lit and welcoming hotel lobby at night, you are walking into a dark lobby which is odd and unsettling. 5. The Wi-Fi was extremely weak, and I had to rely on cell data the entire time I was at this hotel which was frustrating. If you absolutely need working Wi-Fi, this might not be the best hotel for you. I was told the Wi-Fi was “temporarily not working”, but I have a feeling this is a regular situation, not temporary. 6. After all the trouble I went through to prepay for my room, upon checking out, I was informed that I needed to pay for my entire stay. Thank God for modern technology as I was able to pull up an email on my phone showing proof of full prepayment to the hotel. It was too bad that my last moments at the hotel were spent arguing at the front desk whether or not I had already paid for the room. If you prepay, be SURE to have proof with you that you can present to the front desk when checking out.
Had a great stay for 5 nights. Rooms have been called "small" but on par with any other historic or downtown hotel anywhere else. I felt the staff's grasp of English was better than most other places we visited in Cartagena, my Spanish improved over the week dramatically. I find all the complaints that the staff doesn't speak English in a Spanish speaking country amusing. The restaurant was exceptionally good until I realize Cartagena is one of the culinary delights of all our travels. I couldn't find an average meal if I tried. Roof top pool was nice, room was clean and the staff helpful and willing. Restaurant staff was fantastic, Eduardo is my favorite person in all of Cartagena. Cabs were easy to hail away from the hotel but not outside the door. There are complaints about noise, we stayed on the second floor facing the square and there were random noises from locals, dogs and tourists at odd hours of the night but didn't really bother us. If you're sensitive to noise I would recommend a room not facing the square and sacrifice the view and people watching. We walked to Getsemani, other sites and the boats for the excursions, staff let us know when we should take cabs rather than walk which was appreciated. Had a wonderful stay and would stay here again for the location and satisfied first experience.
Enjoyed 3 nights at the NH Cartagena Urban Royal. Rooftop pool is small but adequate for dip to cool off or to sunbathe; the rooftop offers wonderful views of the city skyline. The hotel is situated on the Plaza de los Coches, which is a vibrant gathering point in the city. It can be very loud outside in the square at night but we enjoyed watching the action from our terrace of our room, and the room had good sound-proofing and a/c. Ivan at the Front Desk, Eduardo in the breakfast dining room and other staff, including GM Jose, were very welcoming. Ivan spoke English so well and was very helpful answering all our questions.
Great location means a sacrifice in the size of the room. Like the larger NH Hotel in Medellin, it suffers from the penny-pinching practice of only 1 hand towel, no face cloths, no facial tissue (e.g, Kleenix), no writing paper, and no pen. Unlike that hotel, did not have to sign credit card slip ahead of time. Friendly staff, fixing room safe quickly. A pleasant surprise was how good the food was in the restaurant with views of the plaza.
