Just the hotel part of this all-inclusive was worth 4 stars. The rooms were enormous and well decorated. The beach was decent, and the pools were great too. One pool even sported a pair of "guard vultures" (and the beach was frequented by a dozen cute raccoons, mooching food from people). Other notable hotel wildlife are bats and iguanas. The buffet food choices were extensive, and well set for customers that like fruits and vegetables. For meat eaters, less so, as the beef was consistently tough. They have three a la carte restaurants (seafood, Eurasian, Mexican), but our meal at the seafood one was a fail (we didn't try the other two). I'll ding the place for its plumbing, as not everyone in my group had properly functioning how and cold water. I also have to note the location of this place is out in the middle of freaking nowhere, so it's really meant for people that want to stay at the resort. They've got a good show event that costs extra. Wifi also costs extra, unless you are an all-inclusives-plus person. Being in that category gets you rooms with better views, closer to the beach, and their own spa/pool/bar. I would lower the rating by a star for people using this place as a base for diving for a week. that's what I did. My room was on the southwest wing of the hotel, which required lugging your gear to the center, then down to the beach, then west along the beach, and then south over a boardwalk through a mangrove area to where the dive boats show up. The dive boats are tiny, and divers would be advised to put their wetsuits on to the waist before getting on the boats. The divemasters (Cartagena Divers) were friendly and helpful, but they had the "typical" problem of leading too quickly. Surface currents were an issue, but not bad at all below 7 or so feet depth. Water was murky, especially in shallow areas. The reefs were healthy and teeming with smaller fish. Larger ones, not so much. Oddly, they never took us further west for dive sites, as that is where the national park is. Instead, we went east, towards Cartagena, and north to some off-shore islands. Lastly, to eat at an a la carte restaurant, you have to reserve your spot at 10am. However, dive boats leave at 8am and return at 1pm, so you can't reserve. We whined about this and they gave us a seating one night. That one night wasn't good enough for us to whine again to try one of the other two.
Very nice location but they have to work more on customer service, specially the people on the front desk, no helpful at all, even rude when a problem is over the table. We bought a plan to see the fishes at night (7pm) and because of the weather (raining and lightning). They didn't want to give our money back. I felt stolen by them.
Overall, facility is good and offers lots of options. Entertainment is awesome. People and staff are very friendly. Amenities ate good, but maintenance and the conditions of the rooms don’t reflect the price. Foods are fantastic. Lots of options and all inclusive provide peace of mind. Ver small store and very limited selections. Local people can be aggressive and annoying you to buy what they offer or sell. Things are not cheap. You need to sharpen your negotiation skills.
On our first day, one of our party had a serious fall due to the lack of safty tape on a wooden step in the the creek valley below the buffet restaurant. We went to the nurses station 3 times and there was no one there to offer assistance. We mentioned this safety issue to the clerks in reception, but after a week we saw that this invisible step was not marked and still a threat to other guests. When we mentioned that there was no one at the nurses station we were told that we were wrong!!! Who tells an injured guest that they are wrong? We also did not appreciate the lack of privacy of the bathroom in our room, the toliet paper was of the cheapest available- certainly not what one expects from a luxury hotel. There was no kleenix! The shower would fluctuate between very hot or very cold with no way to regulate it. Wifi reception was terrible. The beaches and pools were wonderful, but we could not understand the limited schedules for both. The unusual schedules for the restaurants were hard to fathom: desayuno from 7: to 10:30 and comida from 12:00 to 15:00??? It was like being at camp. If you showed up for the last half-hour of either the restaurant staff was already clearing away the little food that was left. The staff in reception gave conflicting or incorrect information and we received most of the accurate information from the cleaning crews. The Eurasian restaurant was spectacular, but in general the food was lackluster. Despite all the short-comings we adapted and had a nice time, particularly the boat trip to Isla Rosario, which of course is extra. The staff were generally very friendly and attentive, but there were severak instances where serving staff seemed very out of sorts and served very grunchingly. And please fix the entry road- this is a terrible way to introduce your hotel.
Too many slopes or stairs to climb if you wish to reach the main dining room or the theater where shows take place.If you call reception in order to ask for a golf cart to transport you,be prepared to wait for an hour or so and only if you insist calling for it several times. The hotel rooms and general installations are good. Wifi is restricted(not included) and bad. The beach is nice as long as you were shoes to get into the water because there are lots of coral stones that hurt your feet.The sea is absolutely calm and warm.Because of the thin coral sand the sea is not absolutely clear when people are swimming. The shows are quite good.Good dancers but not live music or singers. The food is average.Nothing special.All other three restaurants(a la carte) you need to go early to get a number of order and them waste one or two hour of your precious vacation time in order to get a place in one of these restaurants.In a six days stay we went to only one and the food was ok. The employees are very nice.The administration lacks of quality. Unfortunately there are no other hotels in the area.
The service was very poor. From start of booking to stay. Booking was difficult because the salesperson did not speak much English and was not available to speak to. No other options were offered other than a standard package. I would have paid for a poolside room/suite. The ride to the hotel was through a very poor section in the area. The service at the hotel was minimal at the bar and dining area. No beachside or poolside service. Bartenders and counter clerks on cell phones instead of assisting guests. The resort was beautiful but too many levels and long distance to walk to beach. Not ideal if you have knee replacements or painful feet. No top shelf liquor. Ask guests to go to another bar for drink. Poor communication due to language barrier. Poolside bar ran out of liquor at 4pm. The wedding was beautiful but very minimal help to resolve issues that occur on the spot. Due to “hotel policy” food was not allowed to be taken or sent to the bridal party as they were preparing for the event leaving them with no food until after the wedding ceremony. Spa service did not offer salon services for guests. The bridal party hired out salon services. No free WiFi and the hotel staff was unable to assist in providing printer services for our boarding passes. On a good note transportation was on the spot.all in all I would not go back. I hope the management will please read this review and consider making changes. These were very fixable things but just added up to make an unfavorable experience.
Cons: The hotel has no air condition in the lobby, the pool bar often had no ingredients for drinks like mojitos and margaritas. the entire hotel has no waiters no where, no waiters in the pool area, no waiters on the beach area and no waiters for the bars at night, accept for the restaurants. They recycled some foods from the dinner buffet to the breakfast. The rooms had no refrigerators and no wifi. No wifi in the lobby. Pro: Great views.
When we arrived we were isolated in a room to affect a speedy registration for the group arriving. Indeed it beat the lineups we have faced in other hotels. We received adjoining rooms as requested in this lovely hotel. Service was terrific with friendly staff, and clean surroundings. Breakfast was a busy time early in the morning as only one buffet opened before 9:00 and the many folks here seemed mostly to prefer an early breakfast so the lineups for omelettes and pancakes was a long wait. There was little fruit choice in January but the weather was perfect, over 30 each day with no rain! There are several good restaurants where we enjoyed meals rather than going to the busy buffet. Normally you had to book a seat in a restaurant but if you bought one of their bottles of wine prior to the meal they would let you in. Food was good in the buffet but the could have used some more spices to call it better than that. On our last day we booked a private tour with a guide and enjoyed a tour of Cartagena. (cheaper than the bus tour) Our plane was delayed so the hotel called the guide and had them drop us off at another hotel for a meal , rest and then we were taken to the airport. (Hence, the great service once again) We enjoyed the beach daily and recommend a snorkeling tour.(Book it at the boat shack on the beach ) All in all we enjoyed the holiday plan to return.
Pros here end at the view of the bay. 1. Check in staff provided a rushed verbal breakdown of the resort and amenities, with no printed material to refer to, with the exception of a general not so useful map. As we departed to our rooms, we found out the gentlemen who provided this information was only 2 weeks out of training. This explains why we had to probe for answers and information which eventually reminded him of other key details he had missed. It would have been nice to know towel service ends at 6. We ended up having to rush 3 cold/wet infants across the resort back to our rooms. 2. In room bathrooms have very little water pressure/vacuum. The 2 people in my group with traveler's diarrhea had to rely on the public bathrooms by the pool in fear of clogging up the bathrooms in the rooms. 3 Excursion disappointment: paid 60,000 pesos for the bioiluminscent tour. Pedro casually mentioned to us that a full moon would reduce the experience but that it would still be visible or worthy of a trip. This is our bad for not looking more into this first. Based on the quiet tense ride back, many of the 10 of us on the tour today felt disappointed and scammed. 4. Time Share sales tactics are still present although not as bad ot aggressive as Decameron Cartagena. 5. Dance performances were great and the most enjoyable part of our stay. The entertainment team did a great job entertaining the kids and adults. I would not recommend or plan to revisit this hotel in the future. One benefit of one of our team members being a plus member was that I was able to write this review without having to pay the hourly internet fee.
only one kind of beer available and not much quality liquor and no tonic water for gin and tonic / not enough times that shuttles leave the resort. no one speaks much english even at the front desk. pools are pretty
