Stayed here for three nights and was surprised how it's changed from it's Jury's days. Started off in a room on the second floor which was alright but definitely a little jaded. However this room was near the door leading to the lifts and the soft close device was definitely not working, leading to the door slamming closed every couple of minutes from 06:00 onwards! Not conducive to sleeping! The gentlemen I spoke to about this was very sympathetic and moved me to an end of corridor room on the 3rd floor and this was far superior; being newly decorated and much quieter. In this respect the hotel deserves a higher rating but the hot breakfast was not the best I've seen being left under the heat lights for seemingly too long. However, the cold buffet & fruits were both excellent.
The hotel was clean with very friendly staff. I really liked the breakfast and also very helpful staff. I arrived there quite late but staff was helping me to park my car in the right place. I believe that the location is great for whoever is willing to visit city centre.
After a long trip showing an Aussie friend around the UK it was a lovely surprise to walk in the reception and be surprised that inside the building definitely outshines its street view. The beds were well made and comfortable, bathroom was spotless and the toiletries are a nice touch being dove products. I was lucky enough to not find the hotel car park by reading all the reviews, I would highly recommend parking opposite in the shopping centre car park its spacious and you have space to move around if you're not confident parking in small spots. (I hadn't driven in a year so I wouldn't be confident parking in the hotel car park) It's definitely a place I would come back to! Only negative was the air con in room 102 was extremely loud but I sleep through anything really so it didn't bother me but it would annoy a light sleeper. POSITIVE: staff were extremely friendly, walking distance to heart of city and stadium for rugby games also rooms were clean (basic) and pleasant to stay in.
We've been to this hotel numerous times but doing a review on my recent stay! Me & my partner stayed here for 3 nights and we have no complaints! We managed to get a parking space underneath the hotel in the car park as well! We ordered room service one night & received it within 20 mins and the food was lovely! All members of staff are so lovely and welcoming! The hotel location is right in the middle of everything in Cardiff, shopping restaurants etc There is a Tesco express a min walk away too! We put a do not disturb sign up for the whole time of our stay & every morning a bag would be put on our door with fresh towels, toilet roll etc! A safe in each room & there was a mini fridge in our room which came in handy! All rooms are lovely and clean & the beds are comfy! Thank you for another amazing stay we will be returning! Only down side is that I think the club Carlson membership is pointless if you don't receive what you're supposed to, as I handed my card TWICE to the member of staff yet it hasn't registered to my account! £200+ spent and haven't received any points for it, disappointing!
Stayed here for one night whilst in Cardiff for business. My room was comfortable but basic. There was a massive queen size bed and large bathroom. Hairdryer didn't work which I mentioned when checking out. I was told there is a safety catch on all the hairdryers and despite getting lots of phone calls about the hairdryer not working, they don't want to leave instructions. I would suggest it obvious you do need to leave instructions if no one can work it out! Breakfast was disappointingly basic; * Poached and fried eggs on request. * Hot food - Bacon, sausage, beans, hash browns, tomatoes, scrambled egg etc (no mushrooms). * Limited cereal (no porridge). Raisins, seeds and dried banana. * Bread - White, brown, farmhouse, croissants and pain aux chocolate. Gluten free bread on request which was frozen and had to be defrosted. Jams and butter. * Fruit - Apples & oranges. * Meat slices and cheese. * Tea, coffee and juices. I expected much more for the price they charge. Skip breakfast here and get a decent one elsewhere. Hotel is in a fantastic location and on the doorstep of all the shops and restaurants. 5 min walk to Cardiff Central Station.
Firstly a pleasant and straightforward check-in, where all staff were friendly and welcoming. We were given a room on the 5th floor which was a very good size. The only downside was how cold the room was, there was only one radiator in the room, none in the bathroom, and it was very cold. Apart from that a great, central hotel with good facilities. The bar had a good atmosphere
We stayed there last weekend and we were given the suite on floor 5. Lovely room although the towels seemed a bit damp. We did mention this and the staff were very very helpful and took our comments on board. Every member was very happy and helpful from the breakfast staff to reception. I would def stay there again.
This hotel was ideal for our 2 night weekend break of 2 couples. Location was super, walking distance to everything. Bar was good, nice reception area... On arrival I looked for a ground floor room as I don't like lifts, the ground floor apartments were up one flight and our room Was an internal room overlooking the lobby!... I really didn't like this as there was no natural light at all!!!! The room has quite obviously been recently painted a dull grey and the smell was over powering!!!!! I went down stairs and asked for a new room. Didn't mind what floor at this stage but wanted an external room that could let in some fresh air or natural light at least, this was no problem and our new room was much more cosy and had a warmer feel than he previous one. Would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay agin, staff were very friendly and location great!!!
I'm a very capable lady driver, drove from Newcastle to Cardiff, pulled into hotel car park, what a joke! Once I got in I wanted to come straight out but was in a queue. Arrows were misleading, directing to left as you enter - to a dead end. Another car was doing a 20-point turn in the dead end to get out, I had to squeeze my 9 month old car into the side to avoid being hit but I hit a ventilation pipe sticking out from the wall, causing damage to my wheel arch, door and bumper. Was too dark at the time to see damage, plus my car was dirty from my 7 hour motorway journey. The car park was very badly lit with very badly signed directional arrows on the ground. I eventually managed to park in a space so tiny I had to edge myself out from my car and I'm only small, with a small car. I would never ever park in this hotel car park again and if I'd seen the extent of the damage before I was half-way home - stopped at motorway services en-route and saw my car for first time in daylight and could have cried - I'd have gone straight to the hotel reception desk to complain. I will post a photo of my car, it is difficult to see the damage due to the motorway dirt and darkness but it has had to go into a bodyshop for repair. Please do not attempt to negotiate this car park, it is too dangerous. My insurance company have the hotel details and I hope they pursue the matter. Please people, if you are driving to this hotel, drive past to the St David's car park which is just next door and looked much more accessible. I can't believe it cost me £12 to park overnight too as well as the £250 excess on my insurance. In the morning (about 8am) there was no hot water. We left to eat breakfast elsewhere as the queues were so bad too. Good points - the proximity to the city centre and the arena opposite. The beds were very comfortable. In light of my car parking nightmare though I would not stay in this hotel again nor would I advise anyone driving to attempt to park here. This car park cannot be described as a car park, it is more like a dark cavern with concrete pillars everywhere, ventilation pipes sticking out from the walls all over the place and a patchwork quilt of tiny parking spaces. My friend had parked just ahead of me and exited via the entrance as she could not negotiate her small car out through the actual exit - the angles, pipes and pillars prevented her from doing so safely.
Exactly as you'd expect for a Park Inn: clean, comfortable, and reasonably priced. I used the restaurant for an evening meal and this was very good indeed. Butter chicken balti for approximately £14. I would add on a negative that due to the impressive large and high ceiling foyer area, the restaurant and bar were a tad on the cold side. Breakfast was basic and I'd suggest eating out in Cardiff centre rather than the hotel, it wasn't a cheap addition for what you got. Without doubt a good economical hotel for a city centre stay. Parking under the hotel is very tight so either have a small car or get good at parking quickly.
