I visited Cardiff in May 2017 for the first time. This hotel was a typical Marriott - clean, quiet but not very inspiring on the inside. Breakfast was OK. Conceirge lounge very nice. Great location in downtown Cardiff. I would stay here again.

The Good Situated adjacent to St David’s Centre, at the heart of the City, in one of the best locations. Easy to find with secure on-site parking; more on parking later. Marriott Cardiff has a welcoming and helpful staff. The lobby is spacious and opens up onto a bustling bar. A great beer garden for the summer and an inside bar that buzzed in the evenings. The restaurant is a bit dark but the service is great and the food adequate. Menu choice is limited to the now standard Marriott menu. We stayed in an Executive Room and there was nothing that made it feel different from any normal room. Spacious with two comfortable single beds zipped together. A nice modern TV, albeit it sound restricted. If you are hard of hearing you may not hear the TV. There was a hairdryer, a safe and a trouser Press. A sofa bed was available but with a family in the room there would be insufficient wardrobe space. The fridge was empty but working. Basic tea and coffee making the in the room. A comfortable nights sleep but when we stayed a noisy wedding party interrupted us at 0200. The Bad Towels were old and tired and had not been washed with fabric conditioner or tumbled. Felt like they had been air dried in a desert, scratchy and horrible. Marriott toiletries have been sub-standard for a number of years but are better than the bottles of soap some hotels now bolt to the wall. My advice, take your own. The Ugly Marriott have updated the TV system and removed the movie options. This is not published at the time of booking. Marriott have stepped down a tier with their offering by doing this. WiFi costs £4.95 to be able to stream movies. Yes what you pay for 2-months at home costs you for 24 hours at a Marriott. High Speed WiFi should be free. The Executive Lounge is too small, run down, with awful furniture. Because it is only replenished at certain times, it is impossible to get a seat when food and drink are put out. Tables were not cleared on both our visits, with dirty dishes on the tables. Paper cups for coffee was a real disappointment. At breakfast it took 40 minutes to replenish the hot food once gone. The Really Unacceptable Ugly Car Parking Eighteen Quid overnight - a factor that will make me look elsewhere. There are two things that should be free at a hotel in Britain - high speed Internet and Parking. Overall - a reasonable hotel with great staff but one of the lowest standards Marriotts we have stayed at. If you want to see the Benchmark the one in Bucharest knocks the socks off my own nation’s capital.

Stayed in the marriot last week for 2 nights... Room nice, bed nice, hotel nice, pool nice. Great location. Expensive breakfast, drinks & parking .. fairly slow check in. This is probably our 20th stay But Room 911. Right next to the lift. Noise continued all night, it's not the doors it's the mechanism of the lift and obviously the people late at night. Do not stay in any room with 11 after it eg 711, 811, 911 as you'll be next to lift.. very disappointed with our stay this time.. Receptionist said she'd pass my comments on to maintenance not sure they can fix the problem

Stayed here on business. Room was ok, but all feels a bit dreary and formulaic. Breakfast was rather uninspiring and doesn’t reflect well on the big chain hotels. Hotels such as the Du Vin chain do it so much better, just a shame there isn’t one in Cardiff

I regularly stay at the Marriott with friends when we visit Cardiff. The hotel is literally minutes walk from the train station, shops & nightlife. We always book the accommodation that gives us access to the executive bar. If you enjoy wine this makes sense financially and we always enjoy starting our evening in the bar. The rooms are standard of the rooms you would expect from the Marriott. Clean, comfortable but slightly dated. Staff are always friendly, welcoming and helpful. I recommend this hotel and will continue to use it.

Decided on booking this hotel due to its location; on arrival found the staff to be helpful, its large foyer gave the hotel a good first impression. Our room was adequate, very clean, however, the only significant difference say to premier inn was a large TV (and price to stay). The downside to this hotel were the prices at the bar, my partner was charged over £10 for a glass of red wine!!! I think that the cost to stay here is a little on the high side

The trick with Cardiff Marriott is to book a room during quiet times. When there are major events in Cardiff, I would never stay here because of the high prices. However, we’ve just reurned from Cardiff Marriott after a relaxing night there, and the price was a bargain because it was a quiet period in the city. I’ve even paid more to stay in Travelodge before now. Such a convenient place to stay to do your shopping. However, it costs £18 per night extra for the car parking. Parking in general is expensive in Cardiff anyway.

We had a lovely four night stay here. Location perfect. Reception staff very welcoming & helpful, attractive reception & bar area, room very spacious & comfortable. Fabulous pillows! Good range of toiletries & tea & coffee making. WiFi intermittent in rooms, better in public areas. Very nice leisure club with pool (15m approx) & gym. Good choice of continental breakfast, cooked items ok, would have been nice to have mushrooms AND tomatoes, not either/or on alternate days. Toasters don't really work so you just get hot bread! Bar food nice though expensive & one waiter was a bit grumpy & got our order wrong initially. But all in all a very pleasant stay - we would stay again & would recommend.

Perfect stay for a few days business trip - nothing seriously wrong, smooth service and all recently decorated (if a bit bland). The staff were very polite and welcoming as you would expect in a quality hotel - the room cleaning, bar and restaurant staff the more friendly (one of the housekeeping staff stopping to ask how the trip had gone seems simple but was really nice and gave the hotel more personality). The hotel is modern to a high standard in the rooms and public areas - less character than some, so probably more suited to business-type stays. Reception staff helped with printing off flight info and restaurant staff were great when work call meant I nearly missed breakfast! Only negative points were noise from clubs opposite and the water being cut-off for a few hours (and the horrible brown 'water' that came out the bath and taps after). This was due to an emergency and staff were apologetic. Will happily stay again next trip. (Asking for a room away from noisier street side).

Well what a beautiful afternoon tea. I won a competition for 4 and we went today! It was lovely, a glass of fizz and then our food came! A selection of 3 different sandwiches, a mini prawn cocktail, a little beef pie, a spicy pulled burger followed by a welsh cake, macaroons, a pecan pie, chocolate mousse and a scone! With either coffee or tea! It was amazing! We were all stuffed by the end of it, spent ages in there and could have stayed longer. Lovely service and the staff were lovely and pleasant. Would definitely book again in the future!!
