Lovely hotel, lovely staff, good price too. Even left a chocolate treat in our room when we told them we were staying for my husbands birthday. The location is perfect, you are in easy walking distance from all the shops, restaurant and bars.

Attended a day long conference type event which was held in the Bardd Suite utilising the two rooms as one. Morning and afternoon refreshments were provided along with lunch. I haven’t been to this Marriott for nearly 10 years and last time I did it was to a charity ball held in this same area. As far as I can see it’s still exactly the same and although acceptably clean the decor and furnishings are showing their age along with quite a few blown bulbs in the ceiling gave a past their sell by date feeling to the whole place. Put it this way I wouldn’t consider it god enough for anything special like a wedding as it’s just too dated, worn and dowdy looking but perfectly ok for business use where the event content is what has to impress more than the venue. On the positive the food we were given was excellent by conference and banquet standards - real variety and choices you wouldn’t expect such as fish and chips. They also catered well for food allergies and intolerances with clearly labelled dishes. The staff were good also. Overall a positive experience but Marriott should consider a modernising refurbishment before too long to freshen and lighten it up.

Hubby and I are frequent visitors to this hotel, it is definitely our favourite in Cardiff, the hotel is well appointed to the city centre restaurants, bars and shops. There is a lovely large outdoor seating area to sit and watch the world go by on a sunny day and easy to access to drop your shopping bags off when you get a bit laden down. The rooms are all really lovely and the beds very comfy. The hotel normally does a special offer where you can have have breakfast free of charge with an advance purchase when paying by Visa debit card - this is our preferred method of booking. The hotel is immaculate and the staff all so friendly, they really cannot do enough to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We stayed here last Aug for our 20th wedding anniversary, We decided not to book breakfast on this occasion as we were planning on finishing our evening off with a visit to the Live lounge which always results in a late night, normally resulting in us missing breakfast. On arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a lovely young German lady I think her name was Monica, she was so attentive and asked were we staying for any special reason, I mentioned it was our 20th wedding anniversary, she advised that she would have upgraded us if possible but the executive rooms were all full, the standard rooms in this hotel are nice enough so I was happy with what I booked. Monica then offered us a complimentary breakfast, I explained that we probably would not make breakfast, she explained she would book it for us just incase, this was very kind of her. On arriving in our room we were surprised to see that we had been upgraded to a queen room which basically comprises of two double beds, this tickled us specially as it was our anniversary lol, the beds were much appreciated though and the room was much bigger than standard. We were also welcomed by a towel display and rose petals in the shape of a heart as well as a fruit platter with 'Happy anniversary' written in chocolate, this was a lovely touch. Moments later this was a knock at the door where a charming young man entered with a champagne bucket, two glasses and a bottle of wine, I thought this too was lovely. We decided to have dinner in Viva Brazil, haha huge mistake as even though it is one of my favourite restaurants in cardiff due to the amazing brazilian atmosphere, we were so full we needed to lie down, therefore we returned to the hotel and collapsed on to our separate beds which were very much appreciated. Needless to say we did not manage to make it to the live lounge on this occasion but we did manage to attend breakfast and enjoy our complimentary treat. The breakfast was fantastic as usual, well stocked even though we visited near end of service, and everything piping hot. I have to add that this hotel is great for families as there is a chef in the dining room who not only cooks fresh eggs to order but her also makes the most amazing looking waffles with chocolate sauce and all sorts of treats - a real treat for the kidddies - and i've never seen this offered in any other hotel in cardiff!!! All in all 10 out of 10, thank you Marriott staff for another great stay, especially to Monica for her warm welcome and check out, this young lady is probably on maternity leave now but she is a real credit to the hotel and hopefully we will see her again in the future.

We were there for a business dinner and overnight stay, Reception staff on arrival were very efficient friendly and polite, the room was fine clean and tidy but somewhat dated and in need of refurbishment. Bed was comfortable, Everywhere was lovely and clean, bars,dining room and ladies toilets. The food was nice at dinner and breakfast was super,(despite no mushrooms but that’s being very picky) the staff at breakfast were lovely and very attentive. And the gentleman on reception was lovely on Saturday morning.

Lovely stay, but very expensive for what we had. Room was nice but nothing special. Breakfast was delicious, very impressed. We had a cocktail at the bar and the barman 'didn't know how to make the cocktail' even though it was in the menu and he only told us he didn't know what it was after we bought the cocktail and it came out wrong. Nice stay but could have been better.

check in was quick which was good. Our room on the other hand was quite disappointing, we thought that going to a marriott hotel could be a hotel that you could trust and we thought we would have had some quality. The bathroom smelt of cigarette smoke and there were holes in the bath which looked like burnt holes. We booked with 3 other couples they all had 2 king size beds while we only had 1 king size and paid the same prices as the others. We were really looking forward to our stay being parents we dont have many nights away on our own and we were very disappointed for what we paid.

The room that we had our party in was very cold staff told us they would turn the heating on after we had eaten. This did not happen. Breakfast had to wait for bacon and eggs. Location is great but rooms and some decor are looking very dated.

As others have said this hotel is in an execellent position for Cardiff City centre and shops but the downside of this is parking. Signange to the parking is poor (especially for those who do not know the city - the majority of hotel guests) and I assume we are going to end up with a £60 fine due to having turned incorrectly and got sucked into the bus lanes. VERY annoying as the hotel also charges the exhorbitent £18 a day car parking charge. We were part of a group and arrived as soon as we could after work on Friday but at 7pm. Check in was really slow which held us up further and, by the time we’d dealt with parking, got to the room and done a quick change we were 10 minutes later for our hotvfork buffet. As a result this was a cold fork buffet! I don’t know why there were no heaters under the food. There was also hardly any food left and there had, apparently been no vegetarian choice, although this was then rectified. The final 2 in our group arrived very shortly after we did and, with such disappointing main course food (at a cost of £23), we all moved onto the desserts, which were better. (A nut tart, a strawberry tart, fresh fruit salad or macarons). Very bizzarly, a tray of hot salmon was then brought out! Aftervthis we went to the bar with friends. Drinks were over-prices but the room was freezing. I asked for the air conditioning to be turned off but the guy behind the bar said he’d have to ask maintenance. Nothing happened so, eventually we went back to our room. This too was cold and we seemed unable to change this all weekend. We even had trouble sleeping due to this. The heater in the bedroom seemed to do little. We (supposedly) had an ‘executive’ room and had been sold this as having a god view on a high floor. We were put on floor 4! I would certainly have questioned it being executive had it not said this on the door. I have no idea what made it this as it was a very bog standard hotel room to me and far smaller than we have had in many other hotels. We certainly didn’t get the promised view although this was evident from the executive floor where the lounge was that we then had access to. There were supposed to be lite bites available from 3:30 but, when we got up there there was nothing. I questioned this but was to,d that there wouldn’t be anything until 5:30. I rang the desk and they said it would be restocked. Some welsh cakes then arrived. We did pop up later but, with our dinner being served at 7:30 weren’t going to eat much. It was a pretty good array of food though and the olives were delicious with a glass of wine. We went back downstairs to have a drink with our friends and our meal as part of our stay. The food was very average and I rather wished I had eaten more of the food in the lounge! We were able to have our breakfast with our friends who were not in executive rooms and this was fine, although food did deplete. On the first day, despite having a table in front of the tea and coffee station we were not offered a drink until I requested them 10 minutes later. I also had to ask for water for our tables in the function room repeatedly. We heard stories of our organiser being put in a room with no cold water, this being known to staff and others who were very cold. On our second night we also went to the bar. My partner had to give me his jacket as it was so cold and one of my friends went to bed as she wasn’t prepared to sit in that temperature. How can a bar be kept at so unpleasant a temperature? This was bound to have reduced bar sales if nothing else. Again I requested that this was addressed, but there was no change, so, eventually we all left. So... all in all rather a disappointing effort from many of the staff and the temperature of rooms was a real let down. Who wants to be cold in their hotel? I would look for an alternative hotel if coming to Cardiff centre again which is a shame as the hotel has potential!

This was the second time in the year we had stayed in this hotel. As on the previous occasion the staff were all excellent. However the lack of maintenance and investment was even more noticeable. One of the three lifts was out of commission for the whole of our three day stay. The executive lounge now has no coffee machine just a thermos flask. The temperature in the room remained day and night at 24.5° regardless of how we adjusted the heating. The location is excellent. One point to watch in the car park is an area that has a sign saying Marriot reserved. On closer inspection it actually says that it has been reserved for a local chapel at certain times of the day and week and there is a £50 fine if you park there.

My wife and I stayed at the Cardiff Marriott for 3 nights over the New Year. Although we had only stayed here once before we were greeted like old friends by the receptionist. This set the tone for an excellent weekend. In particular the hotel laid on a 3 course dinner for New Years Eve. Evidently this had only been planned in the previous 3-days, however the food and atmosphere was excellent and we were looked after as individuals by the lady in charge (we believe this was Simone). The room was clean on arrival and presented in the same condition every day. The breakfast at this Marriott is one of the best I have experienced at this brand, with the food kept piping hot on dedicated temperature controlled hotplates. I would highly recommend this hotel to everybody. Noting other comments regarding difficulty accessing the car park, you will have no difficulty if you accurately follow the directions on the hotels website.
