My wife and I decided to stay overnight at The Cardiff Marriott recently as she wasn't feeling very well during an evening out in the Citycentre.Given the circumstances ,we were relieved that a room was available at the reasonable rate of eighty nine pounds. We have used the bar at the hotel for twenty years,it's become home from home for us.When I told the receptionist that my wife was unwell she kindly rang the paramedics. We didn't have to wait long for a phone call from the paramedics.I explained my wife's symptoms.I think we must have had about three phone calls altogether.Luckily,my wife wasn't suffering from anything serious.Once she started to recover by relaxing with a coffee in the bar,we began to enjoy the evening. The lovely bar team who have got to know us were attentive and friendly as always. When we got into our room we very pleased with it.Admittedly, the room is dated and needs some modernisation but on the plus side it was very cosy. We were impressed that the bathroom was well stocked with toiletries. Our room was at the back with a view overlooking the Motorpoint Arena. We had a very peaceful night sledp, didn't hear any noise at all. When we checked out in the morning the lady on receotion who attended to us the night before remembered us and asked my wife if she was feeling better. We both thanked her for all the kind and caring assistance we were given the night before from Reception.Would definitely stay there again. As we live in Merthyr Tydfil, sometimes we would prefer to stay the night in a Cardiff hotel rather than travel back home late at night on public transport.Overall, once my wife recovered from her illness, the general experience of our stay was very pleasant indeed. We pop into the hotel bar for a snack and a few drinks at least once a week ,look forward to seeing all the lovely staff again very soon.
Great location by station and convenient for all major attractions. Staff excellent and very helpful . Unfortunately decor and hotel a little shabby and really no better than some of the traditional cheaper options such as premier inn. Has a pool and gym but didn’t use so can’t comment. Could be much better
From time to time I enjoy a traditional Sunday lunch with all the trimmings but without the fuss, and this place fits the bill very well. There is a comprehensive list of options for all courses and great food is attractively presented and full of flavour. True traditionalists might not like having to go and get their own food but it is no great pain and leads to very little wastage. Tables are well laid with linen cloths and napkins, plus jugs of iced water. Willing staff are on hand to take orders for other drinks or sort out problems. The starters include hot soup with roll & butter, smoked fish, prawns, choice of ham, pate, and various salad items. Roast beef (always) and pork (usually) are carved in front of you and and a good choice of vegetables can be added, together with crackling, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, and gravy. An alternative main can be steamed fillet of hake or chicken breast. There is a hot dessert as well as fresh fruit saladi, ice cream, and other cold choices. An excellent selection of cheese and biscuits with tea or coffee finishes the meal off nicely. If the beef had not been rather too tough on the day, I could well have given it 5 stars.
Stayed for one night, room number 311. The staff at the hotel are very welcoming and friendly. The hotel and rooms are clean but very old fashioned, need updating. The beds very hard, didn’t sleep well
This Marriot is a really great base to tour Cardiff. Excellent room on 10th floor. Great breakfast in the morning. Stayed one night on way to a wedding and had 2 rooms on Marriot reward points which made it even better! Great atmosphere in the bar in the evening!
Booked an executive room, met my friend who was working that day and come out straight after work. I said they could could leave their work bag at my room to save them going home and coming straight back out. I was very perplexed that on our way back in you would not permit any extra people entry than the room booking EVEN ONE. For the prices you charge and the rooms you have... you should not be treating your guests like they are in hostel. I would recommended the futures Inn at the Bay for anyone considering visiting Cardiff. Because not only does their air conditioning work but the rooms are worth the price and you are not treated in such an appalling manner
As a seasoned traveller I had always thought of Marriott hotels as better than most similar chains. For my most recent visit to Cardiff I combined one night booked via Booking.com, and a second using Rewards points. Despite ringing a week in advance to ensure they knew the two bookings were linked and I wouldn’t have to change rooms, reception seemed totally confused when we arrived. They did offer free parking to make amends. The room was small, (1008) and the bed hard - not the two double bed rooms I’m used to with really comfy beds. The rooms seemed tired, some plugs not working, had to phone for new batteries in the remote, then on the evening of day 1 we had the concierge banging on the door asking if we were leaving. The room had also not been serviced and I had to phone for this to be done. I half expected Manuel to bang on the door babbling about Mr Fawlty at this point!!! The coffee in the bar lounge was disgusting so we had full English breakfast both days at John Lewis for £8 instead of the ridiculous price that Marriott charges. So either Marriott has lost the plot or I was just unlucky. When they do revamp the rooms, can I suggest putting in double plugs with built in USB ports near the desk - would be great if all hotels did this. Ate out in evenings so can’t comment on food.
Staff were very nice and overall experience was good but for a 4 star hotel the room furnishings are looking very tired. The spa facilities were also very run down with a lot of the lockers broken or not working and tiles missing in the pool.
Second time staying in Cardiff and on this occasion stayed at the Marriott. The location of this hotel, for me was absolutely perfect. Very close to the train station and opposite the lovely Saint David shopping parade. Check in at the hotel was very seamless, very pleasant lady on reception. She checked me in very quickly, told me about the hotel restaurant and that there are leisure facilities which I wasn't expecting (should have checked before hand). Room was very comfy and clean. Breakfast was plentiful and of good quality. Very easy check out. I would definitely stay here again
We stay for only one night. The receptionist was very kind and friendly. We ask for the car park and payed £18 but we had a room with included breakfast for only £67. Great offer. The hotel is located close to the city centre as you can leave the car and go around on foot. The breakfast is very good with many choices. Our room was not very quiet and air conditioning really noisy.
