This place is run by, at best, flakes, at worst, criminals. I reserved a room months in advance for my vacation. I called 5 days in advance to confirm - they never called me, and they were difficult to get a hold of. After some work, I got in touch with the "manager," who sounded like an irresponsible kid. He said that I was indeed confirmed, he took my cell phone number and confirmed my e-mail address. He said that I'd receive an e-mail closer to the date with check in information, including a code I'd need, as there is no front desk. I still hadn't received an e-mail by the day before my arrival date. I called and was told that my reservation had been cancelled. No reason, it had just been cancelled. My pleas to them, explaining that I was not notified, there was no reason given for the cancellation, and I there were no hotel rooms left in Cambridge, were essentially ignored. Please, for your own sake, do NOT risk working with these people. It isn't worth the potential catastrophe. It isn't worth the few dollars you MIGHT save to have your entire trip ruined. What they did was nothing short of criminal.
First of all, if you are into anything but the basics, Harvard Square has other hotels (I stayed in them all) with markups of over 300%. This place is basic, but the price is amazing and the location (Mt. Auburn and Banks, minutes to Harvard University) is wonderful. My room was clean, the manager, Chester, was conscientious and the place is near plenty of restaurants, minutes away from the bookstore and river. Once again, don't stay here if you're expecting a traditional hotel--there are plenty of other places in the Square willing to take your money (and those places, including the Charles, will be overpriced for what they provide)
Well, we were looking forward to this place, but it was a BIG disappointment. The first apt we were put into was shabby, I mean REALLY shabby, paint flaking, mold/mildew, inadequate AC, and old toiletries and food left from previous tenants. We decided to tolerate it, and then we return at the end of a day on the town to find SEWAGE LEAKING FROM THE CEILING. Obviously the pipes upstairs had sprung a leak, but the leak had been there for a while, as the ceiling and wall was discolored from past leaks. It was SO nasty. Brown, pooling water outside the bathroom on the window sill, window drapes, and floor. So we call the property manager, who is nice enough, and they say they'll move us to another unit. It's ready 2 hours late, and so our evening plans are ruined. It's a bit nicer, but also shabby. 1 tiny AC unit for an entire apt, old fixtures, and again, old toiletries, soap and stuff in the kitchen. Then refrigerator has water pooling in the bottom of it. With all of this we asked for some sort of refund, some sort of credit, but heard NOTHING back from management or the landlord. Nada. BOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
Stayed here for a few days in September - and it was a worth returning to. Compared to most other places I looked into this was great value (also compared to airbnb places!). Well equipped kitchen, nice bathroom - I would return during my next Boston stay. Wifi was slow at times and would recommend to improve this for future guests.
