Jianguo Garden Hotel

My main search criterion was to locate a hotel, not more than US$75 per room per night, near a subway. On that, I was not disappointed. The hotel is near Dongdan subway station which is served by lines 1 and 5. I got to that subway station from Dongzhimen subway station for RMB4, and to that station from the airport by Airport Express for RMB25. After a couple of tries, I found that if I alighted from line 1, I could use exit B which was just 2 blocks away from the hotel. On the other hand, if I alighted from line 5, exit B was not visible. I could then use exit F which landed me about 3 minutes’ walk from the hotel; alternatively, after alighting from line 5, I could walk towards line 1 and at the station concourse use exit B. Once I figured how to get around between lines 1 and 5, it became easy for me to get to and from the hotel using exit B. If you are carrying heavy bags, please note that typical of Beijing subway stations, there are multiple staircases to navigate (e.g. I counted about 80 steps between the station and the street level of exit B) and the escalators serve only one way (up not down). One concern, after having read some reviews, was that the hotel was old. However that concern did not materialise. The hotel was a typical modern-style building, with a curved façade and a big fountain at the front. The entrance had a revolving door. The lobby was high-ceilinged, spacious and bright. Checking-in was quick and efficient, and I had no difficulties getting to my room. The room was roomy, neat and tidy. I was therefore surprised that the bathroom was a tad crammed. The well-stocked toiletries, the room-safe, the house-keeping and the turn-down service worked perfectly for me. If there were signs of age, those were on the cupboard doors beneath the sink in the bathroom. I did not take any meals in the hotel but did enjoy the happy hours 1-for-1 promotion at the lobby lounge (e.g. RMB50 for 2 margaritas!). I had a couple of healthy foot massages in the health joint in the basement where as a hotel guest, I enjoyed a RMB50 discount on each visit. The gym was located too in the basement but I did not use it. I discovered that the closest amenities were located in a Henderson Shopping Centre about 5 minutes’ walk away (turn left on exiting the hotel, go straight and cross the traffic junction, and go into the underpass which led to the basement of the shopping centre). It had a huge supermarket (from which I stocked my own breakfast), many small shops and a food street with plenty of local restaurants. I read from the mall directory that the usual suspects (McDonalds, KFC etc) were located at the ground level but having at one of the local restaurants at the basement consumed a big fish (cooked Sichuan spicy style) and a big bottle of beer all for a princely sum of RMB66, there was absolutely no reason for me to go for Western fastfood. Overall, for the price I paid, I had no complaints about this hotel, and will stay here again on my next visit.

The hotel staff were very pleasant and anxious to please. There were only a few that spoke English but there was always someone available to help. The breakfast/lunch were great. The fitness centre was not part of the hotel, it was downstairs and expensive but adequate. The pool was good. The location was good. About 1 1/2km to Wunfujing St and the night markets. The room was a good size with an opening window. The coffee wasn't great but it was drinkable. We would stay here again

I stayed there for 2 nights on my trip. The hotel has a nice counrtyard with fountians and a spacious lobby. Right there in the CBD (the business district) . 2 min walk to subway and Silk market. Great amenities. Slightly old fashioned in design, But overall quite clean.

I stayed at this hotel 5 nights. I do not have the breakfast package but the selections are quite good for Asian style breakfast. The room was ok, great bedding and comfortable. There were few conferences during my stay and it was crowded in the lobby during peak hours. The staff was very helpful, including booking for Great Wall tour and call for cab. The location is great, about 7 minutes to subway. Do remember which exit and which line you are taking, or else you will be have a lot of walking to the hotel. There is a bakery near subway station, easy access to anywhere in Beijing area, including Wangfujing. We bought some bakery for breakfast near the subway station, which has very tasty bakery. There are many restaurants near subway station, including one Cantonese style restaurant which we dine for 2 meals. There are many local vendors/mini market that you can buy grocery like water/drinks.

Had a 2 nights stay at Jianguo Garden hotel. Even though the hotel is old, the amenities are well prepared and maintained. The staffs there are friendly and helpful. The hotel is located next to Dongdan station which is served by Line 1 and Line 5, and it is walkable to Wangfujing street. Tiananmen square is within 20 minutes walking or 2 stops by metro line 1.

Great location, close to the Forbidden City and shopping malls, with great food.. Found the bed uncomfortable, otherwise staff friendly.. The Wifi is extremely slow, as someone else said bring your cable to plug into the wall.

Very UNcomfortable stay. 5 star price for 3 star hotel. Only 1 or 2 of the staff spoke English. The temperature in our room was 28 degrees so they gave us a fan... "only heating available in winter". Disgusting stain on the spare pillow, long dark hairs throughout the bathroom, shower leaked all over the place no matter what you did and the kettle didn't automatically turn off when boiled. Breakfast and indoor pool were OK and the location is great. But not worth the price!

Good location next to Dongdan metro stop. Really good breakfast. Not much English spoken by the desk staff, but all staff very friendly and helpful. Pool not easily accessible. Beds large and comfortable.

Good location, good value for money and staff is helpful. Be aware they charge for the fitness center - just bring your goggles and swim cap as the pool is free to use. The WIFI is slooooooooow. Be sure to bring your CAT6 cable to plug into the wall as that is much faster.

Stayed here for first few nights of China trip. The hotel is ok. Good things: - location .....close metro station and also to Beijing Railway Station. Number of dining options within walking distance as well as shopping - helpful staff. Even though English is limited there was always someone with a decent command of English to solve an issue - breakfast buffet plentiful and lots of variety - big bath towels - big king bed and comfy pillows Not so good (hence rating): - room carpet needs to be ripped up and new carpet laid or minimum steam cleaned as was filthy. I know it's hard to keep carpet clean but a good vacuum to pick up someone else's toe nail clippings would be a good thing - bathroom - shower over bath with no major grab rails. Definitely not for those who can't get in and out of the bath. High sides and slippery tiles on bathroom floors when wet. Could be quite dangerous for anyone careful.
