A decent hotel for exploring Basel, a very clean, great staff hotel. I had some issues with the air conditioning, but not enough to ruining the stay. Also i had issues with the wifi, but i think that was probably down to me. Id add, that for these two minor issues, i didn't ask for help as they weren't big issues, but if i had I'm sure the great staff would of sorted it.
A good modern hotel. Reasonably priced for the very expensive city of Basel! You’re given a travel ticket which comes in very handy. The tram stop is super close by. Breakfast is very plentiful and worth the money, you get more here for that price than in most places in Switzerland! Staff seemed a bit abrupt, but this could be a cultural difference?
Stayed here for 3 nights. A relatively modern hotel and rooms are comfortable and well maintained, although the duvets were not particularly to our liking. Breakfast range and choices were very good, in a bright and airy restaurant. A suggestion! Install an additional coffee machine, as there was constantly a queue at the only machine available. I’m not sure if it was part of the specific deal we had booked with Dorint but we were provided with free passes for the excellent public transport system. This was a real bonus, as buses and trams criss-cross Basel very frequently, making it very easy to quickly get anywhere in the city. As an example, the #30 bus goes from literally outside the Dorint to the train station, from where the #50 bus goes directly to the airport. Given how expensive Basel - and Switzerland generally - is this was much appreciated, and we made great use of it! We were also given a discount card for other amenities. Things to work on! We had a problem with a faulty hair dryer and although service came to investigate (and it worked fine for them!) it continued to be problematic. Not really a big issue but we did have to push for attention (having rung service initially my wife had to go to reception to insist someone come to the room). Also, I’m not particularly impressed with wall-mounted soap dispensers in the bathroom. I can appreciate they may be more cost-efficient etc, but I don’t think they reflect the quality level of this class of hotel. All in all we really enjoyed our stay in the Dorint.
Stayed here for a long weekend. Room was lovely clean and fresh & staff were helpful. Located close to a few different tram and bus stops and within walking distance of old town. Overall good experience.
Staying here for two nights, my rating is lower end of average. At first they gave me a key to a room which was already occupied by someone - imagine someone barging into your room with a valid key card 😂 lucky he wasn’t there, but all his stuff was. Then I got another room, by far not as nice as that of the other guy 😂. The first floor corridor smells heavily of cigarette smoke that I really don’t like. Thankfully the room itself smells OK, windows start at breast level so feels like you are half underground, it’s small but I am alone so - OK. Would not chose it for my next visit, I will be back at the Stuecki :-)
The hotel is lovely, situated right around the corner of the excellent Basel city public transport. The breakfast is great, plenty of choice (go for the birchler muesli with berries). One point of attention: like basically all hotels in the world, this too claims to have a towel policy in that they will not change the towel if on the rack. Not once during my stay of a full week did they uphold this policy. Each and every day all towels were changed, even though I intended to use them again. That is a big negative for me, since they provide you with lots of them. All that detergent and water... There is also seems to be a small issue with the sound proofing. People walking in either rooms above or below gave a unpleasant noice. Lastly, the room’s heating system is good, but noisy. To end on a positive note: staff is absolutely delightful and very hospitable!
Situated in a convenient location near a tram station. Makes moving around Basel fairly easy. The room and bath were clean and well equipped. Loved the warming lamps in the bath room and the coffee-tea facility. I didn’t like the bed and sheets - they were two single beds push together with separate linen. The blankets were too small. I payed another 20 CF for the breakfast buffet which was great. There was a large variety of bread, fruit, cold meat cuts, cheese, jams, drinks, cakes, etc. That in addition to hot and tasty bacon and eggs.
Booked to stay for one night , free parking inclusive. Upon arrival with my car complete with roof box - too high for underground carpark, to drive to public multi storey or park on street. After a 7 hour drive , now in a city I'm unfamiliar with , eventually parked car a 30 min walk away. Disgusted with my treatment, will not be returning to this hotel.
The hotel was entirely comfortable and totally appropriate for a long weekend visit. The staff were friendly upon our arrival and spoke excellent English. The facilities were nice but the only downside was having to pay for use of tea and coffee facilities in the room. Aside from that, it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay.
I stayed at the Dorint when my preferred hotel was fully booked up, due to a conference in Basel. The hotel was very expensive (probably as a result of lack of availability elsewhere) and the standards of service did not live up to the price. Rooms are clean and small, though the bedsheets smell a bit of bleach. The service in the restaurant is painfully slow, and the waiters are clearly overworked. Will avoid in the future.
