As an avid traveller and as one who gets to experiment diversity in hotels ranging from boutique to renowned chains in the hospitality market you get ti develop a sense of discernment the moment you walk into a new hotel.... From the moment you enter the Clarion Inn you get a whiff of the nicotine that once lavished and ravished the hallways of this place... If you check in during the day you will be greeted by friendly staff... Once the sun goes down, the residents of this hotel shower the entrance and lobby... Many taking their cigarettes breaks right at the doorway.... At the risk of sounding derogatory... You feel you are entering and intruding the dwelling of ex-cons and people on federal housing programs. Although the rooms are clean to the natural can't help notice the specialized strong perfume fragrances that overcompensate for the smells of mildew...nicotine and pet friendly premises. Breakfast was a traumatic experience for me... Although I was pleasantly surprised to see a cook preparong and serving eggs.and waffles order....the cook terrified me... I felt I was in prison being served by an inmate...the "prison cook": fouled mouthed, loud, intimidating, angry, demeaning derogatory, argumentative, frustrated....did not work well with others and clearly does not understand the meaning of free breakfast...his under his breath comments about how much food you were consuming and his non welcoming demeanor taking your order made you want to run... The coffee was horrible and the fixings are lacking... They only offer sweet-n-low and raw sugar... So much for those who use neither..... You can expect to see and share breakfast many residents in their pjs... As well as resident children running around... When I say resident I mean it in a literal way... They live there... Every night we were greeted by security personnel dressed as police... Thus perpetuating the "prison" feel of the place.... Needless to say I was not happy with this place.... Upon check out we got to discuss many of these issues with the manager, Linda who solely offered her deepest apologies and emphatic promises of better days to come. The supervisor on duty credited one night of our 6 days there and sent us on our merry way.... Not a good compensation for what we endured. Local surroundings are just as drab.... Neighborhood reflects the overall feel. If you are in need of a half way house or newly freed from prison life looking for a place to stay you will feel right at home... For the rest of us looking for a quiet...warm...welcoming...hospitable home away from home experience stay away...nothing to see here!!!

I stayed four nights at the Clarion Inn North Austin. The outside of the hotel is in poor condition, the surrounding neighborhood is low income with many cars parked along the streets. The parking lot is not secure although there was a security officer that made rounds at some points at night. I did see people smoking marijuana in the parking lot and there were always people standing outside the entrance smoking cigarettes. The hotel was clean and the room was clean and comfortable. The restroom was fine and had a large tub/shower with a seating area behind tub. There was one lamp with an extra outlet. Lighting was poor as in most hotels. There was a microwave and refrigerator. Television channel selection was ok. I did not use the pool, but in the evenings there were always children running around the lobby that were swimming. The pool is located in the atrium area inside the hotel. The morning breakfast was average. The best thing about the hotel was the cost. It was less expensive than nearby motel 6's and much much more comfortable with more amenities. A good choice on a budget.

The hotel would be a number one choice with upgrades to the interior and exterior. The exterior is in need of repair. The hotel looks and feels old. I didn't like the fact that only one of two computers worked, nor no hot water at the bathroom sink. I also have mixed feelings about the location. A Wal-Mart and restaurants are close. The hotel is near two highways. The area is low-class. It's close to an area known for prostitution and drugs. The area around the hotel was quiet, and I had no problems. That being said, I still don't like the area. The hotel has a $75 hold which is the largest I've ever experienced. Most hotels where I stay have no hold or a $5 or $25 hold. I liked the design of the the hotel and the room comfort. The hotel was obviously nice at one time.

Room was disgusting. When I cut my foot, I reported it to the front desk. They told me the manager would contact me shortly. She never did. Mold. Dirty. They don't care. Go someplace else. It needs an overhaul.

This was probably a nice hotel, once. Normally Choice Hotels are a good value. This one was not. There are issues with management apparently neglecting to keep up maintenance. There were several minor indicators of this and a couple of major issues. The elevator floor indicators were out, the toilet paper roll was mounted in such a way that a full roll of toilet paper would not roll. A light bulb was dead in one of the lamps. The floor in the bathroom was not properly cleaned. There were two major inconveniences during my stay. First, there was no hot water in the first night of the stay. When I arrived back at the room on the second night, the door would not unlock. I had the cards re-scanned and it still would not open. The front desk person tried to open the door, also without success. I had to wait for about an hour for her to call in a maintenance person to unlock the door. They did give me access to the room next door to wait, but that was not much help as all my belongings were in my room. The water was no longer cold, but it was barely warm. I was not offered any reduction in price for these inconveniences. I would not recommend this hotel.

Bugs crawling on the bathroom wall and counters. Filthy carpets, turned my white socks black. Lazy employees who move at the speed of molasses. The fact that they have a security guard on premises at night should tell you what kind of area they are located in. Will never stay there again.

Stayed here on 11-10-2017 and checked out 11-12-2017. Came for the Texas Basketball and Football games. Did not have a 1st floor room as i requested. The toilet did not flush because of no water pressure- clogged up several times- no maintenance on the property - tried using the bathroom in the lobby- bathroom was disgusting - smelled very bad and not cleaned for 2 days straight. The rooms did not have regular coffee as advertised. The breakfast cook was very rude. The pool was very dirty with a visible green algae film. I saw kids swimming in the disgusting swimming pool. Front desk clerk was wearing torn jeans- not professional at all. I had no wash cloths through out my stay. Bed and pillows were worn out and need to be replaced. Terrible lighting in the lobby/ breakfast area- carpet very worn out. This hotel is very disgusting and should be closed down immediately. Fire the lazy Management. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE.

I have literally been in hundreds of hotels through the years due to business and family trips and can without a doubt say this is the most disgusting place. Literally a roach motel. There is mold in the rooms, rust in the bathtub/shower, bugs everywhere in the room and even the bathroom/shower, (found roaches on tables, bugs in bathroom, and ants in room). Please don't waste your money here!!

I came to TX in business travel following Hurricane Harvey. In the part of the country where I live, Clarion is top of the Choice Hotel line - not so in Texas. Despite some iffy reviews, I decided to give it a shot. The room was fine but there as a WATCH in between the sheets and covers on my bed indicating it hadn't been cleaned well. There was huge huge dead cockroach in the new fitness center, but it is Texas. The front desk clerk was a young girl who was very knowledgeable but presented a very uncaring demeanor both in her attitude and her clothing. Hotels should have a dress code for front desk staff and her ripped jeans and tshirts totally detracted from her professional ability. She also seemed to care more about socializing than working. Otherwise this is a lovely hotel in a rundown part of town. I checked out early and went to another hotel.

It feels like the A/C don't work in lobby and room, so uncomfortable, the front desk is so rude I should of just gone to another hotel, as I'm here laying thinking I should cancel and go somewhere else, everything its so outdated and mold everywhere, I defenetly do not recommend ...... Don't spend your hard earn money here.
