Been here for just experience this hotel, we actually live Auckland , but just want enjoy a downtown urban life style . The hotel lobby is located on left section of ground floor . And water view is quite unique, I thought it would be Harbour view but it is actually like a fountain . The room is luxury room got above average room size around 45-50sqm , it usually can called junior suite in other hotel. Room in 3rd floor , but actually just 1 floor above ground. (Lobby in 2nd floor. ）
Just opposite the harbour area where you can almost drive your yacht up to the very doors of the hotel. Lovely breakfast that can make you dine over an extended period of time without knowing. Oh so comfy beds and room slippers that makes a good nights sleep or even a power afternoon nap. All you need in an Auckland hotel
This hotel provides a stay with great service, great views, and wonderful surroundings. The staff really works hard to deliver a 5 star experience. Even if you are not staying in the hotel, the restaurant and bistro offer great views and wonderful service with some of the best coffee on the Viaduct.
We stayed for four nights. Check in was friendly and quick but on the first night there were two evacuations due to false fire alarms at around 1:30am and 4:00am. I get this happens but not two in one night !! On the second evacuation, there was nobody to assist or inform customers of what was going on - we later found out that morning what had happened. We had breakfast that morning and there were no plates or glasses in the buffet area and had to ask staff for these items. There was another fire alarm at 4:30pm but we did not evacuate. We went to the Sabrage Bar later in the night, the staff failed to check if we needed another glass of wine after our first drink. We had to go into the bar to ask for service - and when the wine was delivered, it was just dropped on the table !! And then we sighted to two bar staff having a robust discussion in front of customers!! Meanwhile, I went back to the room to get my iPad and the air-conditioning had failed. It was a rather hot Auckland day but at least it largely fixed when we went back to go to bed. We did provide feedback to the hotel and received all our beverages and breakfast complimentary for that day, and a bottle of wine the next day. The last two days were what I expect from the Sofitel - excellent service, great food and wine. The hotel did redeem itself but unfortunately the damage had been done on the first two days and we would struggle to stay here again.
Some aspects of this hotel are excellent, but in other places they drop the ball. In this price range, nobody should be dropping the ball. I had a reservation issue when checking in which could very well have been the fault of the tour company I used and not the hotel. However, the front desk staff, while very friendly, were decidedly lacking in helping to solve the problem. Service in the restaurant was excellent one day and decidedly disinterested another. When we spoke to the concierge one morning to make a restaurant reservation for that evening, he took down my contact information so he could let me know if the reservation was made or not. I never heard from him again. When I returned in the late afternoon, he was off duty and had left no message with the other staff. One day I tried to make a spa appointment but they had no openings. On the plus side, the rooms were clean and modern. The public areas were attractive. The location is central to many restaurants and shops. Also, I inadvertently left and item in my safe and, when I called after I discovered the item missing, I was very pleased to be informed that housekeeping had found it and turned it in intact. Excellent!
Incredible hotel! Beautiful common spaces and stunning rooms. Only downside was that the shower design caused our bathroom floors to flood every time we used the shower! The location near Viaduct harbor was incredibly convenient as well. The pool was closed during our visit for maintenance, but they had offered us the ability to use a pool at a different hotel.
We stayed at the Soffitel during our last day in NZ. The place was jammed as they had booked a large Tauck tour group and a group from Oceania Cruises at the same time as our stay. Our room was not ready when we arrived at 2:00 or at 3:00 after we returned from lunch( shortly thereafter). First the good points: Nice clean and comfortable room and good concierge service. Not so strong points: our Luxury Marina View Room primarily looked out over the road and city not the Harbor. Also despite booking the room 10 months in advance and requesting a king bed we were told that all of the kings were taken. The front dest staff were’t particularly helpful. I would probably choose a smaller boutique hotel on my next visit.
We stayed here for 3 nights late January and was very pleased with our room overlooking the harbour. Ideally situated for many restaurants and bars although some of the harbour restaurants can be a little pricey but where the hotel is situated it is an easy walk to many other restaurants. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
This hotel is literally the best hotel I’ve stayed at in my life so far. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are spacious and well decorated and the service was beyond expectations. Nothing was a problem for the staff, we arrived very early in the morning after coming off a cruise ship and although our room was not ready yet we were given access to wifi and to the day spa, where there were amazing showers and amenities for us to freshen up, towels, toiletries even deodorant and mouthwash were provided, anything you could need. The concierge was absolutely delightful, he booked in tours for us and gave us loads of information, he was very friendly and approachable. The area of the hotel is not right in the cbd, but it’s located in a harbour area that is FULL of great restaurants, just a short maybe 200m walk from the hotel to the waterfront restaurant area. This hotel is great and I would stay here again if I was in Auckland.
