Want to live like a local, you are renting an apartment in a converted small apartment units located above store fronts in a retail location. There is no front desk, but the owner owns the waffle house attached to apartments, where you check in to obtain room key (10am-7pm), if you arrive at other hrs you will need a phone which works in europe, to call the owner to bring over a room key. You are given a front door key to the building, and a key to your apartment. Stayed in the Excecutive apartment, walk in to room 15'x15', includes full size bed/sofa sleeper, chairs, small table, small sink & cabinet with utensils, microwave' hotplate, and electric crafe to heat up water. Next walk into bedroom 15'x10' with stand alone storage unit and full size bed, a couple end tables and lamps, then seperate full door leading to attached bathroom 11'x4' with shower. All rooms have wood like laminate floors. These were apartments turned into only rental units. A few large windows offer street views of other shops and apartments. Did have noise from unit above ours, as they were walking in their unit and talking till 2am. The grocery store in a 2 min walk, underground train is less than 10 min walk (bus stop 1 min away). As you leave the building need to lock front door with key (front door is just 4'wide, and a 8"x11" white sheet of paper with Hotel printed on it), as we originally walked past the "Hotel" bldg twice, looking for a hotel sign on the building (there is none). Need to walk up a 2' wide staircase to access rooms, keep that in mind. Walking in the area at nite felt safe, as we were a group of 3, visited in Oct. so not many people walking at nite (many people out during daytime). All types of boutique shops in the are, from very $$$ to $, along with many resturants and bars. We were out of the apartment all day and were there basicly for sleeping. The apartment and building gave us a true sense of living like a local resident, as most other vacations we stay at major hotels.
This will be a short review as I stayed here for just one night. It is not really a hotel, but more a collection of apartments. There is no front desk and no breakfast. You can get the key inside the small ice cream parour next door with the same name. I was assigned the apartment on the top floor. That's four rather steep floors up, so if you have a problem walking up stairs you should probably look elsewhere. However, the room was very pleasant indeed. Plenty of space, a bed, couch, tv, kitchen, a small bathroom and power plugs all over. The wifi was free and worked exceptionally well too. The location is perfect too. Close to downtown with plenty of public transport nearby. Lots of shops and places to eat right next to the place too. I would most certainly return.
Just stayed here, location was perfect! Very close to the central square and all the Antwerp attractions! The hotel was a good size..... Was on the second floor, very steep stairs, so ask for low floor if you have lots of luggage. The place was ok, but must say not the cleanest place, the bathroom had mould in the shower, and the sheets, bedding and towels were not the cleanest.... I think I'd choose a more professional hotel next time in Antwerp, I feel the cleanliness and standards would be better, over all not bad, but not great.
The aparthotel van Hecke is positioned as an executive suite downtown Antwerp. Don't let be fooled by the title; it's not an ES. A small stairway leads you up to an appartement on the 2nd floor. Poorly furnished, with a shabby bathroom (cannot shut the door for privacy). Place is clean, but no more than a hide away to get some sleep and go...
This is a great apartment in the heart of Antwerp. The hotel is above a waffle house and the owner of the apartment also runs the waffle house. The owners are fantastic and really accommodating and the apartments are fantastic, clean and well decorated. The stairs are steep so I would get a lower floor if you can. I have no complaints about this apartment what so ever I would stay here again. parking is 100 yards down the street and cost us 19 euro for an over nights stay. Antwerp square with many bars is about 5 minutes walk away.
A beautiful apartment right in the heart of Antwerp, a short walk from Groenplaats and the Meir shopping district. The apartment is very well kitted, tastefully decorated and very clean. Our two year old loved the space to run around a bit! Staff are very helpful, so you get everything you need while having excellent privacy - really your home away from home. As with many Antwerp properties, there is no lift. I did manage to get all our luggage up the narrow stairs and after a couple of days I felt fitter. It is worth noting though, so ask for a flat on the lower floors if concerned. The kitchen in our flat was an unexpected surprise, but for cooking there is just a microwave, so don't plan any home-cooked feasts. Plenty of places to eat practically on your door step. I will be staying here every time I go to Antwerp!
Van Hecke is located very near the city centre. A 5 min walk brings you to the Groenplaats or the cathedral. Parking (paid) within 3 mins and supermarket within 2 min. The appartments are rather spacious. Unfortunately no elevator (we were on 3rd floor) and the building is a bit noisy. But beds are very comfortable, a bit soft but very comfortable. Cleanness is okay and you'll have a warm welcome on arrival.
I stayed here on my Birthday with my girlfriend ..... the welcome was very good , very helpful lady , really a good point here . the room was nice , more than big enough for the 2 of us . If I have to give 1 negative point ...... Is that the bed was really hard and the curtains let the light through . overall I would make a reservation here again .
The aparthotel is a perfect location for anyone interested in the fashion zone - just down the road from MoMu. The owner couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, and we really appreciated the comfortable L-shaped sofa in the large, stylishly decorated living room (bare brick walls, wood floors, big floor lamps - yes, very IKEA but well chosen....). Its probably not the place to choose if you want professional hotel service - room cleaning, soap in the bathroom (we had to ask) - but personally I don't like being crammed in to a bedroom and being surrounded by hundreds of other people in a corporate setting. This feels like your own spacious apartment. It was not busy when we were there, so we only heard noise from another apartment on the Saturday night - but the walls are paper thin so I can imagine this could be a problem. And there was no heating/towel rail in the bathroom though there was a good, hot shower. But as long as you don't go expecting luxury I think you will be pleasantly surprised by this place....
The apartment was a wonderful surprise, clean spacious and equiped with everything that you need for a comfortable stay. Location is close to shops and sites, everything within walking distance and of course the staff always willing to help with directions or recomendations. I had no problems with the internet connection but if you are unable to climb alot of stairs i would recomend requesting the first floor apartment. Van Hecke (waffle house) is right downstarirs, Zora is an amazing cook, every meal is delicious. My favorite meal is hard to pick but no matter what meal you choose I know you will not leave hungry as the portions are huge and delicous. After walking through shops and seeing the sights make sure you try Zora's waffles- mouth watering- the best ever :) Thank you Zora for an amazing stay Terri
