We have stayed in this hotel a few times and it really depends who else is staying there. This time it was full of teenage athletes who ran around the corridors knocking on each other’s doors most of the night. Obviously not the hotels fault but still disturbing. Our bathroom door did not close, but other than that the room was fine and clean. The beds are comfortable although small. The staff are all pleasant.
We have stayed at this hotel several times over the last year or so. We only stay for one night at a time. The hotel is in a convenient location for us and offers free parking and wifi. The staff have always been helpful and accommodating. The rooms are a little on the small side but they are big enough and are always clean. The hotel does have a bar onsite but we haven't used it.
I stayed here just for one night, but that was enough to know that theses guys mean well but the place had funny smell, its funny to now have seen all the other reviews about the same issue, 1 night was okay but wouldnt go back.
We booked direct as there was an offer when staying 4 nights, we only planned on using the hotel as a bed so the 3 star average rating wasn't too much of an issue. We arrived and were welcomed, a high security deposit was reserved on my debit card (much higher than the total price of the booking) however I wasn't too concerned about that. We were booked into two rooms on the 3rd floor. Upon arriving on the third floor we were hit by a smell that could only be described as excrement mixed with air freshener! This lasted the entire 4 nights that we were there! Looking at previous reviews, it seems like it's been going on for some time now (I expect due to the lack of ventilation causing a breeding ground for mould). Thankfully there was an inner door to the room, as soon as that was opened the stink would flood the bedroom which was horrendous! The rooms appeared generally tidy, although the bathroom did seem to be suffering from mould as the extractor fan was not working meaning the entire room steamed up quickly when taking a shower. Condensation also appeared on the inside of the windows each morning, again as there's no ventilation in the rooms. This meant that the walls looked to be dripping and could clearly do with a fresh coat of paint. Cleaners attended the room each day (even though most of the time we were still in the room as we weren't getting back until the very early hours), so left a fresh bag of towels on the door for us which was good. The hotel is around a 2 minute walk from Aldi, and a 6-7 minute walk from the nearest tram stop which also has a larger supermarket on the same street too. It's 4 stops to Antwerp-Centraal and 6 stops from Groat Markt which gives you a wide range of choice when it comes to bars and restaurants.
If I could give this hotel 0 stars I would. Hallway smelled like sewage. The staff knew about this, said it had been a problem for weeks but there was nothing they could do during my group’s stay. Spoke to the reception staff and they did not have the authority to offer us a solution, they wouldn’t speak to the manager for us. We had to call ourselves. For a business booking of 3 rooms that is terrible customer service! The bathroom in our room smelled of stale urine, and that’s an understament. Spending more than 5 minutes in there made me light headed. It was dirty, with buildup from years in the faucet, sink and toilet. Stains on the sink. For a Tulip Inn hotel and at the price we paid this was a disgrace. The room itself was very basic, which in and of itself is no issue as long as its clean and of decent quality. However the paint on the baseboards was chipped throughout the whole room. The remote control to the tv had some sort of buildup around all of the buttons, we cleaned this ourselves before touching it. The breakfast buffet presented itself well initially, but quickly disappointed. The deli meats and cheeses were clearly from the day before, as the edges had turned hard like plastic. It is an atrocity that a respectable chain like Tulip Inn allow their hotel to reqch such a state, and for them to continue to price it as a respectable hotel when clearly it is the level of a cheap hostel. It’s also apparent they do not invest in their personnel, who were ill-informed and uninterested in the guests. We spent 20 minutes waiting in line at the checkout before we simply left and let the other guests in our party checkout for us when they left later. The line was increasing in size as the employee proceeded to slowly take her time and not communicate with anyone. Meanwhile, while myself and 7 other guests were waiting to checkout, there was a drug addict passed out in the lobby with a beer in one hand, an unlit joint in the other and only one sock on..... To put it lightly, this was our worst hotel experience ever, and definitely not the cheapest. STAY AWAY!
First of all the staff and team here are incredibly friendly and helpful. They spoke very good english and made us feel very welcome. They were able to help with booking taxis, which was great, and also were okay with us checking out 30 minutes later than they expected. The room was basic but clean and tidy. The hotel was quiet, despite having close to 30 certified drum and bass heads all attending the rampage festival. One alarming (no pun intended) issue was that the fire alarm had been covered in wet toilet roll as to allow people to smoke inside the room, we assume this was some of the guests before us. However the room didn’t smell of smoke. Whilst on the subject of fruity fragrances... there was a god awful smell on the hallway of the third floor. It was as if someone had died there and been forgotten about. There had been a clear attempt to mask the stench with a air freshener, however this only exacerbated the smell. Breakfast in the morning was average, although a little pricey at €13. Overall our stay was satisfactory and we slept well - tulip inn is an affordable option for those looking to spend a weekend in antwerp. Whilst there isn’t a great deal to see and do in antwerp, the train station ‘antwerpen-bercham’ is only a 10 minute walk away, and takes roughly 45 minutes to travel into Brussels.
Hotel was just about good enough for a stay over. Room was right by the laundry room and had a funny egg smell. Loud fan in the bathroom. Research the area as not near places to eat and everywhere was shut in Antwerp. Hotel room was dirty and very basic
Very nice staff An helpful parking a big problem, lucky it was a weekend as we were able to park in office spaces no real disabled parking one space but very small to try an get out of car,was difficult.no coffee or tea making in room !! So couldn't make a early or late drink ok most staff speak English but after a long day sightseeing didn't want to go to restaurant beds very comfortable An room cleaned while out ,bathroom was not cleaned properly on arrival but the staff did a quick clean as while we had our evening meal had a small gym open all night an day an free.
Awful rooms 3x3 not even possible to get it heated. I'm sure the walls used to be white. A bathroom that even my late grandma would find old-fashioned and small. The hallway smells like toilet refresher. No switch plugins next the bed. Only 2 in the room. One for the TV and one for the desk light. The furniture looks like a boarding school. The price is higher than advertised on booking.com. For a smaller price you can book a studio in a hotel with breakfast 100meters away! In short, it sucks big-time!
I had booked 2 nights. The first night I arrived at the hotel at 11PM after a long day traveling from Spain, 2 meetings and a dinner. I had called the hotel that I was to arrive late but that I was definitely coming. Even at 11pm plenty of people were still checking in. After check in I went to my room, quite exhausted. I noticed immediately that the room was really cold. There was no heating and my room was at the end of the corridor, so, an outer corner with an outside temperature of minus 3 degrees. It was really cold. I was super tired though. The bathroom was equally freezing. I thought that I should go downstairs to complain. But by then it was past midnight, I was very tired. Furthermore, I thought that as there had been many arrivals so late, possibly the hotel was quite full anyway. I just took the duvet from the other bed , duffled myself in and fell asleep. I woke up a few times in the night; I hated to use the bathroom so cold it was. The next morning I complained to the manager. First I was treated like an old woman who more than likely couldn’t turn a switch. Then the manager said that if I wanted another room that I should have complained the evening before, not the next day. I really had to fight for myself and only in the end he agreed to go and have a look himself and solve the problem. He came back and agreed to give me another room. This second room / second night was OK. I was only staying for 2 nights. At checkout I asked the manager whether he would give me some compensation for the ordeal of the first night. He refused absolutely and totally. I had accepted the room; he compared with eating the cold food and then afterwards complaining that the food was cold. I was not asking for a refund. I only asked for some gesture as...well as a gesture of goodwill. I don't know, maybe a reduction on the breakfast, a drink, a biscuit.... ANYTHING really just for a gesture. He strictly refused and became quite prominent that I should have come down the night itself and that he had solved it by giving the other room. Yet, I think it was a very bad answer. He could have done something! He put me in the cold room after all and my experience is now that I will not go there again. There is no airco, for heating you just have to be lucky. The breakfast buffet is nice and good but costs 13 euro so you have to pay dear for what you get anyway!
