We booked this hotel through a travel agent and to be honest was a bit worried by some of the reviews however we were pleasantly surprised. This is a traditional Amsterdam building and our room was on the fourth floor which meant 8 flights of stairs however we were moved to the 2nd floor in request and our cases were moved for us. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was immaculately clean and although a bit basic the beds were really comfortable. Breakfast was fine and basic. The hotel was right on dam square on a side street and a few minutes from the shops and red light district. The walk from central train station was 10 minutes as was Anne franks house. Perfect to explore on foot and as long as you don’t mind the stairs I would recommend
I stayed in this hotel for a business trip with 3 other colleagues and had the worst nights sleep! My room was on the fifth floor (up some very steep steps) it was boiling hot with a faulty fan, because my room was so hot I slept with the window open and consequently was woken up at 5 am with busy traders starting their day with banging and crashing. Even with the window closed you could still here the noises. Reception staff were rude and generally an unpleasant stay
Recently come back from a one night stay in Amsterdam and had a great time. The hotel was modern and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Even though it was a 2 star it was better than some of the 3 stars I've stayed in.
We have just returned from a short break in Amsterdam and after reading some of the reviews on this hotel I was a little nervous! However there was no need at all. The staircases are narrow and steep but they are in every building we entered in Amsterdam. The hotel is located on the edge of dam square in easy walking distance of everything you want. We found the room was small but had everything we needed a kettle coffee and choice of tea it even had a small quiet fan. Very clean and fantastic staff the lady who checked us in (a little earlier than we should have) was great she recommended places to eat drink and visit and even offered directions and wrote down the names. If we were to return to Amsterdam this would be the place to stay!! Thank you hope to see you again!
Me and my girlfriend wanted to explore Amsterdam so we booked a night at Hotel De Gerstekorrel. Upon looking at the pictures it looked like a nice hotel to stay in, boy were we in for a disappointment. The location is good and the staff are friendly, that's about the only positive things about the hotel. Here comes the negatives. The price per night is waaaay too expensive for what you're getting. The room looks like it hasn't been cleaned properly upon our arrival. The "rooms" and the front desk are not even connected. The bed is so uncomfortable, the cushions have brown stains! Yuck! The room is dusty ( I got allergies because of it)! No soap or shampoo in the bathroom. There's a hole in the bathroom door. Our room doesn't match the pictures we saw when we were booking. Our room was on the 4th floor and there's no elevator! We wouldn't visit here again.
The location is excellent, it's close to everything. The room was larger than expected, it was bright with large windows overlooking the street. The beds weren't too comfortable, they were too soft. Breakfast was ok, it was served inside the facilities of the nearby restaurant. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. The only downside were the thin walls and very loud neighbours, they were slamming the doors and talking very loudly all night long.
This hotel is in the ideal spot for exploring Amsterdam. It is located about central of the main town & is right in the middle of a Main busy Street. Took us about 10-15 minutes to walk there from central station but was easy enough to find. You have restaurants, bars, cafes and the canal right on your door step. There is a steak house right opposite & a cake shop next door so you never have to worry about somewhere to eat. We had a room on the back of the hotel and it was quiet enough to get a good nights sleep. We had a room on floor 2, yes it has no lift but stairs were easy enough to take but people with mobility problems wouldn't be suited to this hotel. Room had a massive comfortable bad, a tv, hairdryer & tea & coffee facilities, also the woman & man who were working the reception when we visited were lovely & welcoming & always available for information when needed, they even let us store our luggage in a safe room after we checked out so we didn't have to carry it round before catching our transport home - what more could you want!! Would I recommend this hotel? Yes!! Can't wait to return to Amsterdam & will definitely be staying at this hotel :)
Great location, almost close to everything, no elevator, narrow stairs (I was lucky I didn't bring a big luggage), the room was too small and the toilet as well but clean, the bed so comfy, no soap or shampoo. AC power sockets were different than my devices and I totally forgot to bring adapter and it wasn't available in the reception. Staff were very friendly. However, as it was too expensive (€775 for 3 nights), I expected better services and facilities.
It seems there are not enough hotel rooms in Amsterdam, hence u end up paying €150 for a night in a 2* hotel. Beds uncomfortable. Shower ok. Staff friendly. Caters for the rougher and backpacker end of the market. Great location, very close to Dam square.
Stayed here for 2 nights. The location is very central and makes for a perfect base for exploring. The rooms are clean and comfortable with everything you need. Their not the biggest rooms but who spends time in their room. Kettle, TV, bathroom and a comfy bed. Perfect
