Three day stay with friends. Hotel is central, within walking distance of central station, red light district and many more attractions. Room is quite compact, but very clean and has all you need for a short stay.

Before booking, be aware that this hotel in on Amsterdam's restaraunt/take-away strip and is extremely busy and noisy in the evening. Also be aware that the breakfast service is a joke, not only is there a poor choise of food but the "breakfast room" is really the pizza shop next door. With only a small handful of tables at the back we had to stand and eat our breakfast, we did so in the only place we could, next to the massive shop window so that all the passers buy could watch us. "Why don't they sit down?" I bet they though to themselves. Ok, so the reception desk is manned 24 hours per day and the hotel is clean enough and in a rather central location but non of that matters when you have to hike (and I mean a hike) up 4 flights of really steep stairs to get to your teeny tiny room and have to stand to eat your breakfast in a take-away shop. Why put a bed in a cupboard and call it a hotel room? Seriously, our "room" was barely big enough for the bed and we were both crammed in their like sardines for 3 nights. For the price, I expected something much, much better. I've stayed in much nicer city center hotells for half the price. Never again.

recommendable accommodation in amsterdam. affordable, accessible, clean rooms, comfortable beds, fast wifi, and unlimited and complete breakfast! Coming from a bad experience in a hostel and their receptionists in paris, I cant praise this hotel's customer service enough. receptionists are approachable and helpful especially the young lady from finland (sorry, forgot to ask her name). would like to commend her for going beyond her work. she offered maps and recommended good places and she is very willing to spare some time to answer and listen to their guests questions.

Small, basic hotel but very clean, good facilities and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast is basic but very nice too. The rooms are very good and the beds are comfortable. There is no air con however but we did stay on a very hot weekend. I'd definitely stay here again and recommend it.

This hotel is in a great location to Dam square and withing walking distance to Anne Franks house, Red Light District, Amsterdam Central. We have a quad room and the rooms were clean and tidy. I had an issue with my mattress that was wet, but this was resolved straight away by the Hotel. The only down side letting the hotel down was the breakfast. It was very basic and the only hot meal was Boiled Egg and this was touch and go as to if it was runny or hard.

Little basic hotel in a great location. Staff is friendly but I found that most people in Holland are super friendly in general. Basic breakfast included in my room rate which includes cereal, bread, some pastries, ham and cheese and boiled eggs Due to location, it can be a bit noisy but that is expected. When you close the window it's not too bad. I managed to get decent sleep despite te noise. Also slight con is wifi was not working on my last day

Pleasant basic rooms with good European breakfast included. Great value considering location in the middle Amsterdam. Relatively quiet at night (not silent, but definately good enough to sleep) with window shut despite being on a lively street. Internet was patchy at best.

Came back after a fantastic stay at Hotel de Gerstekorrel this weekend with friends. Steep stairs and no lift but is pretty standard to all Amsterdam hotels. We were in room 23 with 4 single beds, and was really nice. Spacious and plenty of room and the beds were so comfy I wanted to take it home! The only down side was the maid didn't close our door properly on the first full day. We told reception and said we needed to close it properly (which we did) but said she would have a word. Breakfast was 7-10 so plenty of time which was really good, and served continental breakfast, all very nice: toast, ham, cheese, croissants, cakes, fruit, eggs, cereal etc. The location for this hotel is absolutely excellent. 10 minute walk from Centraal station down main road and just off of Dam Square. Close to everything and always easy to find your way there and back. The receptionists were always willing to help and show us things on the map and gave great advice. The churros and pastry shop next door is to die for! Another tip is if you want to go to Anne Franks house, book way in advance. You can queue for hours and never get in. Tickets released up to 3 months in advance. Amsterdam is beautiful and I would return and definitely stay here too.

myself, my partner and another couple have just had a 1 night stay at this hotel and we couldn't fault it! we did only stay 1 night but would stay longer, it's in an ideal location for absolutely everything, dam square is literally on your door step, the rooms were spotless, staff were lovely and the beds were so comfy! the hotel is an old building so the only thing is having no lifts and having to climb the stairs to get to the room however it wouldn't put me off wanting to stay here again. I've never been to Amsterdam before and I know some of the hotels are quite a walk away however I'm glad we booked the de getstekorrel, thank you for a pleasant stay and hope to see you again soon!

We visited for 3 nights in November and found the hotel to be a great little place for a trip to Amsterdam . The location is about 10 minutes walk from Central station and easy enough to find.It is right in the heart of the action a couple minutes walk from the red light district but far enough away. On the street it is located Dam raak it is full of places to eat ,shops etc. Despite this it was still pretty quiet in the room . The room was very clean ,tidy and had a TV,tea/coffee making facilities ,hairdryer . Everything you could want really. The beds were so so comfy we didn't want to get up. Breakfast was included but we didn't manage to get up for this so can't comment on that ! As mentioned in other reviews there is no lift as it is a traditional old building but this didnt bother us too much. Overall would highly reccomend and would definitely stay again!! 👍
