Earlier this summer (2017) I visited Amsterdam and before going I looked on line at dozens of hotels and finally decided on Hotel JL No 76. It seemed like it was in a great location and others had given it good reviews. I contacted the hotel and right away was connected to Lily who was very, very helpful and made sure all my questions were answered. When we arrived we found the hotel to be on a lovely street with private homes, other small hotels, an elementary school and loads of shops just a few minutes away. We found great restaurants just around the corner and the staff at the hotel were very helpful pointing us in the right direction and giving up detailed information on how to find certain types of restaurants. We were only a few blocks away from all the wonderful museums, the canal tours and lots and lots of shops and a fabulous bakery. There was also wonderful walking parks nearby and a large supermarket if you needed something that you had forgot at home. Amsterdam is a wonderful walking city but I must warn you about the hundreds of bicycles which are used as the main means of transportation so they are in a hurry to get from point A to point B. You have to pay attention and always keep that in mind. Our hotel had lovely airy rooms with windows that opened and for me that is wonderful because I hate air conditioning - it gives me a sore throat. The rooms were very neat and tidy, quiet at night and overall very pleasant. The hotel had a nice restaurant where you could eat your meals including breakfast and there was a complimentary bar for the guests. You were entitled to one drink and after that you were on the honour system. We stayed several nights prior to our cruise and it was lovely. I would certainly go back again and stay at Hotel JL No 76 if and when I return to Amsterdam. You could not get a more central location or a more convenient location. Everything you need is within walking distance. There are buses and tram cars if you need to travel one one side of the city to the other. The hotel staff is very friendly and go that extra mile to be helpful. I high recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam. We had a very pleasant stay.
Great stay! I wish I could have stayed longer! Really nice hotel in a great location. You have the ability to walk to a number of places close by. They also have good food, coffee, and a nice breakfast.
Stayed at Hotel JL 4 days and I would highly recommend it. They had nice updated comfortable rooms and beds. This hotel is walking distance from so many sights and museums. It's also walking distance from mass transit. Amsterdam is such a beautiful city with so much history and this hotel was great to accomplish as much sight seeing as possible.
Great welcome - lovely quiet room - great location. This boutique hotel is located an easy tram ride from the centre of the city, in the heart of the Museum quarter. Elegant shopping and lovely residential area.
My husband and I just got back from a 6 night stay at this hotel and I must say it is LOVELY. We arrived around 9am and were able to leave our luggage at the hotel until check-in time at 3pm. We were given a 3rd floor room, facing the street, with a king bed and jacuzzi tub. The room also had a refrigerator. The bed was so comfortable, we slept great every night. Our windows opened, facing the street, but we had no street noise to speak of. I have to compliment the blonde guy with the glasses who is at the front desk. He was probably the friendliest person we met on our entire trip, he was super helpful with directions. I wish I had gotten his name! The wifi worked well. The location can't be beat if you're wanting to go to museums. This is just a lovely little hotel!
We were staying at a hotel across the road from JL No76 and our attention was drawn to the noticeboard outside advertising the restaurant. It turned out to be the best meal we had in our six days in Amsterdam. We were the only people eating there so got special attention from the Italian waiter. The food was very well cooked (I had two starters instead of a main) and the desserts delicious. Would recommend. Also really close to the Van Gogh Museum etc.
It was our first time visiting Amsterdam, upon arrival the hotel was very small and cute with a boutique feel in a very nice neighbourhood. We arrived at reception where we were asked of our booking was for a twin or double room, we stated double. We were then asked if we would like to upgrade for a extra cost, we declined as it was only slightly bigger with the Same amenities. We were then told that luckily we would be upgraded free of charge as our booked room wasn't available (which we thought to be a little cheeky). Once in our room it was very cute, had both bath and shower with tv, we also opted for a balcony which gave us a street view. We didn't eat in the hotel, but the dinning area looked very nice. The service in the hotel was good and staff friendly. The hotel is in a great location if you are a big shopper, literally a minutes walk from shops such as channel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes... also located 5 minutes from Hard Rock Cafe and other restaurants. The hotel was situated a little further than expected from central Amsterdam (red light district). Was a 40 minute walk from hotel to red light district however the tram ran very close and once we got the hang of it we were able to take the tram or get a taxi. However do be aware that if you book a taxi through reception it will cost you, there services are not free. We would recommend this hotel if you are coming to shop or just to relax.
We just returned from a week in Amsterdam, which was spent at Hotel JL no76. My wife and I had our two daughters along with us (ages 6 & 8). The "family room" was perfect for our needs. The small room with the bunk beds is slightly separated from the main room, giving some degree of privacy between the sleeping quarters. Our daughters loved the space. The location is fantastic. I travel to Amsterdam on business and usually stay at a hotel a couple of blocks away, on the canals, when I'm by myself. While I also like that hotel, this one would win my return trips in the future--in spite of not having the canal views. The keys were service, room decor, and breakfast. The service at this hotel is truly impressive--led by the manager (I assume he was the manager). He set a tone from the moment that we checked in that was welcoming to all of us--especially our daughters. All of the staff made them feel special at all times, and there were many little surprises along the way that always made them feel like special guests. The room decor is quite nice, modern in tone, and very comfortable. The bathroom was large by European standards, with a shower and large separate jacuzzi tub. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the tub and loved the ability to watch their own little tv while in the tub (built into the wall). The breakfast buffet was one of the best I have enjoyed in Amsterdam hotels, and we always ordered omelettes, pancakes, and/or waffles which are made to order and exceptionally good. Every detail was extremely well thought out. For instance, instead of having a formal bar, they have an honesty bar. You simply help yourself and turn in a slip of paper when you are done. We found this exceptionally convenient throughout our stay. Finally, the location is fantastic. It is located very close to the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, and Vondel Park. It is an easy walk to the Albert Cuypstraat market, and most anywhere in the canal district. The 5 and 2 trams stop 75 meters from the door, granting easy access to Central Station, Zuid Station (an easy connection point to Schipol) and VU Amsterdam. A couple of tips if you choose to stay at Hotel JL no76: (1) watch out for the elevator door--it closes very quickly with quite a bit of force. We learned (the hard way) to have someone put a finger on the "doors open" button until everyone was in or out. (2) Ask the manager for restaurant suggestions in the area. We found his recommendations to be consistently excellent, and he was wonderful about making reservations for us. (3) Though the hotel offers a discount to the Blue Boat canal tour, I would recommend passing on the discount and either doing a small canal tour, or the Lovers Boat for the large canal tour. (4) For adults, the hotel desk will sell you 24 and 48 hour tram/bus passes; for kids, buy the 24 hour kids pass from the conductor when you hop on. Enjoy!
Friends traveling with us had problems with their room that were handled well by front desk and management and our room was perfect for our stay. We want to especially thank the front desk people who were very courteous and helpful, especially with restaurant choices. Your location is perfect for the attractions we enjoy in Amsterdam.
I can add little extra to reviews posted by other guests who have commented on this fine hotel. Stayed here recently and had a very positive experience from arrival to departure. The staff we met Thomas , Gaby and Annelies (please forgive my poor spelling and missed some one out) were all most pleasant and obliging. The bed I had the most comfortable I've ever slept in.Staff in the hotel probably the friendliest I've ever encountered.Should I ever return to Amsterdam I would certainly stay here again and would certainly recommend this hotel to friends.
