France Hotel3.0 out of 5.0

The hotel is located within 5 minutes walk from the central train station amidst the red lamp district near a Church and a canal. From here you can easily dissolve into a much anticipated exploration of the old Amsterdam. There is a lift and a soft carpet in the corridor to ensure a good sleep. The sound proof is OK. The beds in a rather small room were comfy. No noise from outside. The room was rather dim, the central LED lighting was not sufficient, and there were not enough wall AC sockets to feel at ease with a bundle of cable for phones and cameras. The wifi is free but unstable. The breakfast is served at the neighbouring bar, located in a 400 years old house, which makes the whole thing special. Just an ordinary breakfast and an interesting interior. The personnel is helpful and very cooperative. Our personal problematic issue was operatively settled for which I thank Tom very much. Everything is quite expensive in Amsterdam, and the France hotel not far from the Central station can be a good option to explore the town during a short stay.
Just the location was good in this hotel .Near the central station as well as the main attraction sites in Amsterdam ..otherwise the rest was terrible .in the room was no Windows . Also the lightning was so bad .the room too tight .the breakfast was not good .
Came here for 2 nights with a group of friends. The rooms were clean but minimal comforts. Bathroom incredibly small, beds very hard, no carpet. Breakfast is a strange affair.....you have to go next door to a really shabby Irish Pub. Breakfast consists of a continental offering, watery scrambled eggs and bacon....at least think it was bacon. To top it off, we were woken on the Sunday morning at 7.50am by the fire alarm. We all got out into the lobby to be told it was a hairdryer! Not great. All in all it is a cheap style hotel. If you want luxury and style, this is not the hotel you want. It is in a good position in Amsterdam central though.
You book a quadruple room on one of the booking website. It didn’t say that the room doesn’t have a window and its in the basement. If we knew it, we will never stay there. In addition the room was smelly and you could see dump on the walls, in the shower, beds. In a normal situation you can at least open window - but not here. We asked for another room as one of us has claustrophobia. The receptionist said no without checking anything and told me to call my agent. As it was midnight we didnt have a choice and stayed there. Had to sleep with the lights on to make our friend a bit more comfortable. The location of the hotel is great, breakfast not that bad but in overall I will not recommend the hotel to anyone!
The hotel is in the center and have a very good location. Guy on the reception was kind and we do not have problems to checkin or checkout. For breakfast food was good. Our room was like in a picture that we saw on the internet and we are satisfied. All recommendation.
My friend and I stayed at this hotel just for q night and we decided to change place, first of all the guy on the reception was not that helpfull, we had booked a room and they gave us another down in the basement, we were two women and complained about a group of drunk guys who were next to our room and very noisy, so we didn't feel safe, but the receptionist did not want to move us ( he said it was full) later on we found out that by another recepcionist that at the time of our request it was possible to have been changed! Our room didn't even had a window so was very claustrophobic feeling, the bed was comfortable and breakfast was not bad! In my opinion it's a place that you can go if you find it in offers and just to go to sleep! Other wise not worth the money!
I booked a room with a window, yes it had one that opened onto the roof of the building next door. To keep the window open it came with a crushed water bottle wedged in. In any case the smoke from the kitchen of the pub next door filled the room and set off the smoke alarm. This hotel has no restaurant and the breakfast is served at the pub next door. Better to go some where else, breakfast was awful. The bed was comfortable enough, however the furniture in the room was light weight and flimsy. Both chairs broke when sat on. But the room rate was cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for!
Not worth a penny. The receptionist seemed annoyed to even check us in and our room was prepaid so we lost any opportunity to leave the hotel while we could. There are several other similar price range hotels in the area that are significantly better. The receptionist gave us a room near the ground floor and we kindly asked to be in a higher room if there were any available - his expression and reaction to this simple request made it seem like this was such a difficult task for him to oblige. After several judgmental frowns, he gave us another room and we were happy... until we opened the room door. The floor was stained with dirt, shower covered in hair, and a brown goop was on the electric kettle. We asked for a new kettle and it was replaced with another broken one until we finally got one that worked. In the morning the shower could only work on the hottest temperature. Again, we told the receptionist and he didn't believe us until we made him see it for himself. He admitted that the shower was inoperable but there was no other room available for us to shower in. We began to argue and his response was "this is what you paid for." Simply put, I'm surprised this hotel has some vaguely good reviews. From my experience, I would stay far away and save yourself any trouble.
Great location right in the heart of central Amsterdam. Wonderful staff. The man behind the desk was the only reception staff we see the whole stay so must do long hours. Such a lovely friendly man!!!! Cleaners were also really friendly and polite. Hotel was clean! Only thing we wasn't so sure about was the room. But weird, very small high window with no view. A window looking into another room! Liked the wall paper though!!! Pleasant stay!
Great little hotel right in the centre of Amsterdam.. we had rooms overlooking the canal. They were basic but clean. Breakfast at Molly Malones next door was a good way to start the day and with the current exchange rate and prices in Amsterdam quite high well worth booking. Overall would recommend this hotel. Easy walkable to most places.
