Nice place to be in touch with nature. During the night you can hear the coqui and really nice weather. The restaurante is really good and the service is good. The make you feel at home. Abu and her house "la casa de abu"made me feel like home.
Greatly recommended. There are many activities to do and different eating/drinking options to choose from within the resort. The staff was super welcoming and eager to please. Will definitively come back.
I was going to participate in a mountain bike event in Castañer, Lares, and since Villas Sotomayor was not far away, and a sponsor, my wife and i stayed there last Saturday - Sunday (June, 2019). It was a 2 hour drive from San Juan. The grounds were very large and well groomed. The check-in took longer than expected, but eventually we were attended to. We stayed in cabin #16, on the western end of the parador. To get to the room, we had to basically walk across the area where the neighbor was swinging in his hammock, but that was a minor inconvenience. A staff member showed us the room and took inventory of everything that could potentially be removed by a guest. This was unusual... The room was somewhat spartan, but clean. That evening, we had dinner at the Parador restaurant. Food was decent, service acceptable, and the staff was pleasant and cooperative. The next morning, I left very early for the mountain bike event. My wife stayed behind to try to catch up on some work items. When I returned in early afternoon, there was a horrendous noise outside our room. I learned that since 8 a.m., there was a mud racing event going on next door to our room, and the infernal noise had prevented any enjoyment of the peace and quiet that we had hoped from at a eco-parador in the mountains. We expected to hear birds singing and insects buzzing and coquis, not 600-800 HP internal combustion engines with no mufflers. We went to lunch - trying first at a site as far away from the mud racing as we could get. But they had loud music. So, we went back to the restaurant and searched for the quiet table. We found one where we could actually talk and be heard and had a nice lunch with good food. I had rented the room for two nights, but since it was not the type of peaceful place we had expected, we left that afternoon. Checkout was not very efficient either. It was hard to get staff to notice me or acknowledge my presence, or state that I would soon be taken care of, so I mentioned to one lady that she could have the key because I was going to leave. I indicated that she could charge the two nights, since we had stayed past check out time. In summary, I'm very glad that the Parador helped sponsor the mountain bike event. However, it's my opinion that mud racing is perhaps not an appropriate event to be held next to a parador that advertises itself as an eco-friendly type of site. To be honest to visitors, perhaps the Parador could explain that on certain days, they may be exposed to noise levels normally found beside 747 passenger jets at take off. Anyone expecting to find peace and quiet at a mountain parador may be disappointed.
Oh dear, where do I begin! I will just say that they do have beautiful surroundings and the grounds are kept clean. First issue we had was a water leak in the bathroom sink. Second issue we had was the mattress in the “sofa bed” which was absolutely disgusting it had holes in it and nasty looking stains I was completely disgusted. Also, roaches and spiders in the room which I understand I guess their location might be a factor, but still not what I was expecting at all. They have a handy man, but I guess he was MIA all day so after reporting our issues and waiting half a day we were asked to move to a different villa which was inconvenient, but I guess was the only option. The food was a hit and miss, some of it was okay and some of it terrible. The employees were also a hit or miss some of them were pleasant and others were not even close they had a terrible attitude very unprofessional. Unfortunately, they don’t have enough personnel in the restaurant area so even if the restaurant is empty you better get ready to wait. Even when the bar is open they don’t always have a bartender on duty, they just have the front desk lady taking care of check in’s, phone calls, taking food orders, waiting tables and mixing drinks for guests and only specific drinks because obviously she’s not a bartender so she literally didn’t know where anything was and didn’t know how to prepare half the drinks we asked for. We finally just gave up and came back later after the actual bartender showed up. I mean, how can you have the front desk employee going crazy trying to fill a hundred different positions? I’ve never seen anything so unprofessional and we’ve been to many many resorts and hotels before, I was taken back by it. They advertise a children’s playground, but it’s like a horror movie abandoned place it’s run down completely nothing in it works it’s just sad and insulting that they would make people think they have something and then be that. The animals, oh my! I’ve never seen anything like it in my life, ALL of their animals are in deplorable condition it’s heartbreaking and should be shut down immediately. We have reported this issue to animal services in Ponce I believe they should undergo a thorough investigation I hope someone helps those poor animals get a better life. Overall, the only thing we liked was the grounds and the views. Our villa was okay, but not great. There was only A/C in the bedroom which made the living space flaming hot with just one ceiling fan and also just one TV in the living room and none in the bedroom. They advertise accommodations for 4 people, but that’s ridiculous it’s not even close there’s no way 4 people can stay comfortably in one villa. Everything else was a huge let down I doubt very much that we will be back or recommend anybody. Unfortunately for them, I’m in a position in my job where I refer and recommend people to different places around the island and this place has been checked off my list for good. I would not want to be responsible for referring someone to a place like this. Some of the areas are in desperate need of attention which is a shame because it does have a lot of potential and it’s all going to waste. Also, this is NOT a family friendly hotel there is absolutely nothing for children to do here just the pool if they like swimming in a plain space with nothing fun or entertaining. They charge way too much money and I believe their rates should be adjusted to fit what they offer. Save your money and stay somewhere else! Ponce is just minutes away and they have way better choices and amenities trust me your money will be much better spent somewhere else.
Where do I begin? Let’s start with “ I will never eat here again”. Our waitress was quite cordial but extremely slow. The restaurant was almost empty and I can understand why. Our drink order was slow in being taken and even slower arriving. The food took almost an hour to arrive for a party of five. Three orders arrived to our table and the waitress asked the 2 that received none, “What did you order?” Hilarious. Well, I guess they started making the last 2 orders at that time. They weren’t even all that complicated. Simple soup and mofongo. All dinners were cold and we had had better food for less money everywhere else. Did I mention the waitress was slow? And she continued to walk around without a care in the world. Since she provided half hearted service, she received a half hearted tip, 10%. And count your blessings. All others at the table wanted to leave 5% or less. None of us were happy with our meals. The owner was sitting at another table close by, on his laptop and never even looked up at us. I know he could hear all the grumbling coming from our table. He can read about it now, if he so chooses.
Very expensive for what they offered. They charge per person (over $700 for a 4 night stay). They sell the rooms with a breakfast package but beware if you ask for an additional breakfast item or a coffee refill because they will charge which was not explained at check in. We never received room service, the bathroom had a horrible smell, the fridge did not work, microwave full of rust in and out and TV remote did not work. All these issues were brought to their attention and they did nothing. No compensation just a "sorry". After our check-out we received a call from the hotel asking about a missing towel in the room! basically telling me I stole a towel from them. ¡Why would I have the need for a hotel towel?! Honestly I wish I took pictures but I just wanted to get out of there. The only thing they have going for them is the location and surroundings views. And it is true about the care of their animals. Deplorable conditions which I reported by calling the Humane Society in Ponce.
Need to have a relax weekend an decide to do it in a place outside of the metropoltan area in the top of a mountain in the middle of the Island. We have a fantastic stay. The food was good and the Service fantastic !!!
We love this motel. As the sun goes down it is very romantic. Each room has its own hammock on its patio. The pool has no closing hours so nice and romantic spot at night for couples. Food is a bit pricey but always good. Bar keep ones what she is doing. Close to town but in forest. Two sides to the resort.
Staying for a Puertorrican festival, "Festival del Frio: we decide to spend the weekennd. Was wanderfull the hotel hospitality was great. The weather was excellent and we have fun, good food and safe environmental. Recommended 100 %
I don't know where the negative reviews come from or why , but I had a great time in Cabin#1. Clean and cozy rooms, well equipped, quiet even though I heard a donky saying hello every morning,It was actually funny and it didn't bother me at all. I would definitely recommend and I can't wait to go stay there again.
