I was a guest of this hotel during the Easter weekend. The hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Aachen, walking distance from the Cathedral, the main shopping areas and 5 min taxi ride from Carolus Thermae. The property is very clean and I had a wonderful view from my room (625). Friendly staff.
Nothing detracting about this hotel, in fact it is well situated in the very heart of Aachen and therefore close (walking distance) to just about everything. If you want to go to a spa you'll have to drive or get there via taxi or maybe bus (they are outside the city core). The rate was reasonable for a downtown hotel and the parking, although 100 meters remote from the hotel itself, is secure (Euro 15 a day). You do have to walk in the open between the hotel and car park. The area is busy throughout the day, and night too it seems since every night of the three we spent there, some sort of bru-ha-ha outside at night. Shouts, screams, loud music, cars, etc. The room (we were on the 4th floor) is well sound-proofed but not 100% so. If there is anything detracting about the hotel, it is that it is busy, compact, a bit worn and tired and in an area full of both shops and beggars. The room itself was fine, clean and neat and well enough appointed, albeit quite small. The usual amenities. Breakfast, too, was acceptable. The normal breakfast buffet with something for all. At Euro 17 a person it isn't what one could call 'cheap'. Try to get your money's worth is all I can advise. Overall, a decent hotel and recommended.
The location of the hotel is fantastic, being right in the heart of town and a short walk to the Dom and other local attractions. The staff are very friendly and helpful with suggestions of places to see and eat. The rooms are small, but not too bad. I had a single bed, which was okay, but the pillow was a bit flat. The room was warm (like most in Europe), but I could open a window to freshen it up. Facing the road though made this a bit loud. There were no curtains either, though the block out blinds worked well. The bathroom was small, and the toilet disappointing and not well laid out. The seat cover barely stayed up (and blocked the flush buttons when it was up), and the seat didn't stay up at all, making it pretty hard to pee. Other than this, it was quite okay. The breakfast is nice (but pricey), and there's a parkhouse close by run by the hotel (it's opposite the hotel, down a little alley). You do need to get out the car to have the door opened, which is a pain, but otherwise it's fine.
Good location, the hotel is absolutely ok, the staff is very friendly. Breakfast is good, the rooms are clean, Every thing was overall good for a 3 day experience. Cons: -the internet access, you have to add a new password every day
Room with enough space, quiet and staff very nice. Well served breakfast The hotel is close to the Cathedral and lot of good restaurants. I came by folding bicycle and could take the train without any problem. The hotel is 5mn from main train station. I recommend
This hotel is conveniently situated in the centre of the city, and is primarily intended for business. Everything is spotless and tidy. The rooms are pleasant with quiet air conditioning. Although on a main street, the room on 3rd floor was acceptably quiet. Coffee making facilities, large TV, hair dryer, tissues, adequate towels and shower gel are all provided, also room telephone. Very small bar is irregularly open on ground floor. Breakfast restaurant only no lunch or dinner. Breakfast choice is excellent with all tastes catered for. Plenty of local restaurants nearby. Parking could be a problem at times. Staff very friendly and multi lingual.
This is a mid price hotel that was PERFECT for my visit. Friendly staff, functional rooms and public areas. Filled with natural light even on a could day, this hotel is rich in a town central square and metres from the famous bath/spring. The small room was perfectly clean and had all necessities. Nicely decorated and great breakfast area. I’ll be back.
In general, I had a very good experience in this reservation, from the booking process in Mercure's website until the check-out. Room is well-equipped, air conditioning helped a lot in the cold weather and breakfast service had many options. During December, it's also an advantage to be located close to the Xmas Market.
My reservation was done by a big international company having a special agreement with Accor group. The reservation was done two weeks before my business trip for three nights and explicitly stated "Quiet room not on the street side". When arriving I was told that there is quiet room for me but I could ask for a change next morning. I could not sleep because of the noise from the street and when asking a change next day they told I could pack my things, leave the suitcase in the room and if there would a room becoming free on the yard side they would change my room. When returning in the evening I was directed back to the same room as before. Next night the same noise again and an sleepless night. In the morning my colleague was checking out from a quiet room with the same category as mine on the yard side, so I went with him to ask if I could change to his room. The same person as the day before told me in a very impolite manner that it was not possible to change because the hotel was full, even if my colleague had just released a quiet room. After that the person told again that I could pack my suitcase and if there would a free room later on, then they would change room. I did that but when arriving to my job, I asked our German assistant to ask the hotel once more if I could finally get a quiet room. The answer was no, so we decide to check out via phone and book another hotel. I travel about 50-60 nights per year. I have never experienced this kind of behavior anywhere else. I'm a gold member of Accor (I was asked to fill-in hotel form at arrival despite of being gold member), but now I need seriously think if I want use this hotel chain anymore after being treated totally unacceptable way. I filed a complaint to the hotel by leaving a letter at the reception. At that moment I could figure out that the person who had treated me in this way was the front desk manager of the hotel. I asked to talk to his manager i.e. the hotel director, but she was not present so I asked the person at the reception to leave my letter directly to the director without passing via the front desk manager. For me it seems that this hotel has a serious problem, when people without any basic understanding customer service, can become a manager and is not properly educated and trained to learn that. Or could it be that the problem is even bigger, totally rotten company culture with a general arrogant attitude and ignorant behavior towards customers.
It's always a plesure to come back at the "Mercure Hotel Aachen am Dom". This hotel is situated just near the center of the town; from there the whole city center is easy accessible by foot also the shopping area. This is very convenient during the christmas market; just park jour car in there own parking, make a check-in and enjoy the vicinity. The staff is very friendly and willing to help.
