Travelers leaving from New York will fly out of John F. Kennedy International Airport, located on the west end of Long Island. If you plan to drive your car to the airport, long-term parking is available for $18 a day in the long-term lots located 4 miles from the first eight terminals. You can also reserve a parking spot. If you want to take public transportation, you can get to the airport by train, bus, taxi, or shuttle. The AirTrain costs $7.25 from Manhattan, and the bus will cost you $2.50 for a one-way ticket from Jamaica Station.
International flights to New Delhi fly into Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport, which is a little ways southwest of the downtown area. The Metro is one of the fastest ways to get from the airport to the city's center and stops at Terminal 3 to pick up travelers. The bus system is one of the most common and affordable ways to get around New Delhi, but it is a bit slower than the Metro system. There are also car rentals and taxi services available.
One of the best starting places for any tourist is the Swaminarayan Akshardham, which is an enormous cultural center that gives history and other information, offering visitors a glimpse of New Delhi culture. There are numerous ancient architectural sites that travelers should also see, including Humayun's Tomb, Qutab Minar, and the Chhatarpur Temple. There are also some modern architectural sites that are absolutely beautiful. These include the Iskcon Temple and the Birla Mandir Temple. Also, be sure to see the Presidential Palace, the India Gate, and the Rajpath that connects the two. When walking around to all these sites, be sure to bring water and cool clothing, as summer temperatures average between 80 and 100 degrees. The winter months typically stay between 45 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
