The Hotel Alyeska
Mon, May 1 - Fri, May 5
McCarran Intl. - Ted Stevens Anchorage Intl.
When your luck starts to run out, fly from Las Vegas to Anchorage where you always win with Mother Nature. Take I-215 to McCarran International Airport (LAS), and park in the long- or short-term lot near your terminal. The flight can take up to 10 hours, so prepare to stretch your legs with a hike or bike ride up Flattop Mountain once you arrive.
The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail runs along Cook Inlet for close to 11 miles, and it was designed just for bicyclists. It connects Kincaid Park to the downtown area, and you can get on the trail from the park or 2nd Avenue. While you're in Kincaid Park, enjoy views of Mount Sustina across the inlet, and try out some of the nature trails. In addition to hiking and biking, the park is open for skiing. National-level ski competitions are held here, and the slopes are among Alaska's best.
Don't forget to pack your winter coat when you fly from Las Vegas to Anchorage. The warmest period is roughly from May to September when temperatures typically stay above 40 degrees. The rest of the year, you can expect temperatures to vary from under 10 degrees to 30 degrees. Once you land at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC), find the onsite rental car facility across from the south terminal or locate a People Mover bus stop.
