The property itself is nice-small footprint on the lake, but still very enjoyable. The downside was that it didn’t seem like anything had been prepared before our arrival. The yard leading to the beach hadn’t been mowed and looked untouched since winter. There were tools in the shed, so we spent the first couple of hours cleaning things up ourselves, which wasn’t how I planned to start the trip. When we first entered the house, there were dead bugs on the floor near the entrance, and the place had a musty, closed-up smell, as if it hadn’t been aired out in quite some time. Opening windows helped, but many of the vinyl blinds were already deteriorated (broken) from sun exposure. I took photos before touching anything so there wouldn’t be any confusion about damage. It would really help if the listing mentioned issues like that upfront—otherwise renters worry they’ll be charged for things that were already in poor condition. We also had to turn on the well ourselves to get water, which would’ve been good to know ahead of time.On the positive side, the house itself is nice and the bed was great. We did find a mouse dropping on the table, which wasn’t ideal, but we just adjusted how we stored our food. I also avoided using the Keurig because when I removed the water reservoir, there was green growth inside. I didn’t feel it was my responsibility to clean that, so I left it for the cleaning staff.Overall, this could be a great place with a bit more attention and upkeep.
