Safe was broken, Maintenance guy Michael very efficient to try to fix it numerous times. Upon check in , we never received wrist bands, were given 4 room keys and no towel cards. Staff acted as if it was our error and were very rude. We would not be "sneaking on " to that resort. There was no availability in any of the restaurants for our entire stay. We were "awarded" dinner reservations to compensate for Riu's staff mistakes.
The breakfast and dinner buffets were very good.
There is only one option for nighttime cocktails- the theater, which doesn't have any windows or open air. There is no other option for a cocktail other than the pool bar, which closes at 6pm. Beach was beautiful, but unfortunately it was too windy to enjoy. Water was beautiful but too dangerous to get into. That, of course, is not the resort's fault, just something to keep in mind when booking at beginning of hurricane season.
I have stayed at a RIU in both Puerto Vallarta and Cancun that were MUCH larger and nicer.
