Place was a dump. Toilet didn’t work properly, television didn’t work, remote needed batteries, wifi didn’t work properly. The food menu wasn’t even close to the pictures on line. It was run down and was a disaster. We paid for two nights but checked out after one. Only positive was Claire the manager.

Beautiful place ,comfortable bed ,obviously driving late in the evening one has to be extra cautious as there is no lights on the road. Only issue was the smell in the room likely due to blocked plumbing? I had to use my perfume througout the night

Friendly service and amazing location. .Good value. however property is showing it age like a lot of rotorua accomodatoon. . bathroon drains smelt like septic tank. No food at site,? bar close before six on saturday. Take your own food out there to enjoy.

The view was amazing. Not signs for finding our room 20. Upstairs guests walking was loud. Someone doing laundry at 11pm, it was annoying-woke us up. There were stains on the sheets.

Beautiful views of lake . From our lodge bedroom. the staff were so helpful . thank you Chloe . It would be helpful to have a concrete path thru the lawn area by the lodge rooms to get to and from cars . It was so wet and held rain on the lawn area could not avoid getting shoes wet. The rooms are clean and warm. Bed very comfortable. The main lounge comfortable with bar and coffee lovely fire in evenings. there is a ping pong table . No pool table. lovely surrounding bird song and peaceful. I would go again in summer and probably rent suites with car access to door Very helpful dog friendly

Lake Okataina lodge is tucked away from the beaten track, sitting on the foreshore of a pristine lake and surrounded by native bush. The Lodge itself is framed by soft lawns, hydrangea plants etc on the edge but also native trees and bushes which come right up to the lodge where all the chattering bird life ‘hang out’. With some TLC this would make an awesome ‘eco lodge/retreat’ getaway. The Lodge still has all the aesthetic bones of what it was in its heyday (I stayed there once before 30 years ago) but unfortunately has been neglected. I understand from talking to the lovely and friendly current host he would love to part of bringing it back to shine and I wish all the best.

It’s a great little find out of the hustle and bustle. Top!!! Take your groceries with you. Did not see the manager, everything was closed when we arrived before 3pm. Basic room doesn’t have a microwave. But the view of the lake was beautiful and a couple of trails for walking. Would I head back? Probably not.
