Amazing value for money, great location and interesting to walk around the ship.
We definitely book this for the novelty value of staying on a beautiful old ship. Check in was an effort. No one was around to answer the door. It was 20minutes before we got in and only because other guests came back. Even though the portholes were closed the rain leaked through alot and some of our stuff got a bit damp. Overall the room was clean and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was tasty and it was a fun stay. The ship needs some TLC and maintenance.
Breakfast with little luxury, just the basics. Room was... In decline. Lots of spots and stains, beds worn out, pillows lumpy. Which is a shame, this location and the boat has so much potential.

Our room was neglected. There is lack of detail in the service, and such a unique venue deserves much more attention. For eg, the room is done, and towels changed, every 3 days. Having said that, evening dinners were decent.
It was okay, we paid for a private bathroom and the shower didn’t work at all so that was useless, no staff ever seen in that building but the bathroom was clean and the room was okay for the price
There was dust everywhere (which made the TV overheat), most of the lights don't work, you can't open the windows, there's slight mould, the suffocating stench of the toilets and the showers ran through the halls, the showers also looked disgusting, I refuse to use the elevator because of the sounds and the shakiness as well as the stains on the walls, the
We weren't allowed on the top which was a little disapointing.
I am not one to complain and have stayed at the Barken hotel multiple times over the years and it has really taken a dive. I had to wait for several hours for my room to be available. They only had one person in the house keeping staff for the whole hotel. I felt really bad for her. The new management of this place is atrocious and they clearly don’t care at all about running a decent operation. There front check in is non existent and you will need to call someone to get your room who has no clue what is happening at the hotel. The key card the past two times I was there didn’t open the front door and I had to stand outside and wait for another hotel guest to go outside to get back in. Despite waiting for hours to get in my room this last trip, the house keeping staff barged in on me one minute after 11 to demand I leave. They said they would give me a partial refund when I talked to their remote staff but it was never provided. It’s really sad because this used to be a great place to stay. AVOID at all costs and stay at another hotel in Gothenburg, otherwise you’ll just be dealing with waiting around or stuck outside which will ruin your trip. Do better!
Nice easy check in room was clean and tidy this is an old boat , but I did think most things were just ok , there is heating in the room pity it’s not on , the boat is lovely and well lite up at night pity the curtains dont block the light out , there is no bar or restaurant available, and you are not allowed to walk on the upper deck , I bet this place was fantastic a few years ago but definitely needs an upgrade , shops and restaurants are not far away
Check in was bad, staff only present for short time then it’s all done through a phone call. Room and shared bathroom felt like a jail cell. The bed was an awful cot. Literally left and went to a different hotel the next day. Would not recommend this place at all
Unique and characterful ocation. Stay was much better than anticipated from reviews but place needs better mattresses, human on site at reception (we only saw staff there once) and an arrangement for guests to be allowed a visit to the deck: it is a real downside - and a miss-selling of the location - that guests are forbidden access. Breakfasts need more variety and fruit.
As always, its the people who are important and make for a decent stay. Although there was no 24hr reception, there was a phone which put you straight through to a very helpful person. All good.
